Will someone please suggest where I should begin...I find that half the stuff I download is progressive or hardtrance...(no offence but, blech! Im not there yet!) Based on my favourites below, what would you say is NOT TO BE MISSED!! Ian Van Dahl - Castles in the Sky Final Fantasy (?? not sure if this artist) - I Close My Eyes Atomizer - Hooked On Radiation Robert Miles - Fable & Children DJ Sammy ( I know..I know, sorry) - Sunlight Shakedown - At Night (Original Mix) The Cynic Project - Matrix II Paul Van Dyk - For An Angel I absolutely can't stand Tiesto - Traffic for some reason. Does this give enough information about what genre I like? Please be objective but not overly cruel Thanks a million... - Digital Aura |
I wrote a list of stuff in this thread:

making PROGRESS
That's what I like about this genre. Its funny how you can hear something once...dismiss it...and then hear it again later that week and all of a sudden you can appreciate it.
It's like that with Tiesto for me. I heard Traffic and hated it right away... then I listened to some of his remixes (..Made of Stars, etc.) then some of his work like suburban train...
and I'm starting to get into Traffic. (well okay, not quite..but you get the idea!)

I don't blame you for not liking "James Holden - Nothing" i found the song crap too...
and just cross your fingers that you don't cross to progressive...
also Digital Aura..if you cant get those songs i said, try getting a different file sharing program.

I think a better way to get into real trance is to listen to live dj sets by real trance djs! :P
I would recommand alot of artists like PvD, Ferry, Armin and Tiesto. PvD - Mayday 2000 and Enegry 2003, Ferry Corsten Live @ Spundae, LA (I have the CD/DVD
) and Tiesto's Enegry 2000, Club Space 2002 and Magik 6.
Three tracks I love would be Binary Finary - 1998, Three Drives - Carrera 2 and Delerium - Silence (DJ Tisto's ISoS Remix)
Fat Chance

Since your new to electronic music i suggest you get a couple of tunes by the likes of glen wilson, adam beyer and henrik b.
then for seconds why not try sven wittekind with lahings of dj amok and a side serving of lars klein.
that should ease you in nicely

Above & Beyond would be a pretty good starting point for melodic/uplifting trance... used to listen to them a lot, still do for that matter.
Above & Beyond - Far From In Love (Airbase Remix)
Delerium - Underwater (Above & Beyond Remix)
Rollerball - Albinoni (Above & Beyond Remix)
Three Drives - Sunset On Ibiza (Above & Beyond Remix)
Or Armin Van Buuren...
Armin Van Buuren - Song For The Ocean
Iio - Rapture (Armin Van Buuren Remix)
Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes (Armin's Universal Religion Mix)
Perpetuous Dreamer - Sound Of Goodbye (Armin's Tribal Feel)
Solid Sessions - Janeiro (Armin Van Buuren Remix)
Hang out in the forums, you'll notice a few names being mentioned quite often... Ferry, Tiesto, Armin, PVD, Oakenfold... get a few of their remixes/tunes, check out what they play in their livesets and so on... you'll have this whole trance thing down in no time.
Oh, and a must for listening to trance: get a player with pitch control, Traktor or PCDJ or sth... some tracks you just don't get until you play them loud at +7%.

Tiesto is comin' along... I like his remix stuff better than his own work for now.
Bangalter & Falcon didn't mix "Call On Me"!!! (That choon kix my ass all night!!!)
Gabriel & Dresden make wicked versions so go for them first if you can
mp3's from the internet suck...usually tagged wrong.
The niche I currently favour is called Dream trance but I swing to Epic and Anthem Trance as well. There are too many sub-genres.
Everyone here thinks DJ Sammy is cheese!
James Holden - Nothing kinda grows on you. KINDA.
hey that bar in sarnia... is it the 2 amigos or 3???
anyways... u didnt mention PAUL VAN DYK so let me enlighten you... he's more in the Electronic Dance Music scene so looking at your list i see u like some chilling beats...
check out a few livesets!!!!!!
or better still check him out LIVE (if u get the chance...)

cheers!!!!!!
3 amigos
Wow...cant believe someone here has been to Sarnia.
BTW I want all n00bs to get this song...
IT IS THE BEST TRANCE CHOON 4 U
Evanescence - Hello (Trifactor vs. Gabriel & Dresden Remix)
OH! its too good for you maybe!
