| Originally posted by webmeister ROFL .. no! Jumping Jack plays hard "trance" .. remember he's one of the sublime residents - they may call it trance, but it certainly isn't ![]() But if he's going to play a decent trance set I'll be interested to hear it .. gunna keep an open mind! Just better not be let down like Nervous at Transmission |

| Originally posted by djway I've heard a bit of his demo; it's not hard trance. It's the same style as we all own and love, and the same style you'd expect from Halcyon. Don't worry guys, he'll be very good ![]() --djway |
Theres nothing wrong with Hard Trance IMO when played right...with atleast decent songs hopefully...can't wait.
Hehe Jumping Jack... I'd be interested in listening to a non-hard trance set from him. Just like the other sublime residents (Nik Fish, Pee Wee) he's been around for quite a long time since the rave days around 10 years ago and used to play hardcore/happy hardcore and the trance that was out before the European uplifting stuff became so popular... trance was a little more strange and obscure back then (e.g. Commander Tom - Are am eye?).
I had met Jumping Jack in 1995 at The Rooftop (in Kings Cross) and he was playing stuff like Dyewitness, Alien Factory etc - the classic rave stuff. An old friend (who is now probably in prison or dead [those were the kinds of friends I had back then]) had organised an event there.
All the old-time DJs seem to be stuck on hard trance now, I guess it still sells.
So it would be a breath of fresh air to hear a melodic uplifting trance set from such an old-time DJ.
I had a good night at Halcyon, after some month-long trance hiatuses. I was feeling pretty mentally whacked, but it was fun.
It was good to see the usual crew and meet a few new people.
My friend was still peaking away so it was weird to be finishing early.
Was YTraxx - Mysteryland played? I thought I heard it mixed with Chicane - Halcyon.
I also loved Mike Shiver - Feelings, and the remixes of Motorcycle - As the rush comes in and Andain - Beautiful things.
What was the track with the wailing vocal sample that's in Push - Strange world?
Hey all,
Massive thanks to everyone who came down! I had a sensational evening, probably one the most enjoyable Halcyon's I have had so far!!
Regarding JJ! We wouldn't even think of booking him if we didn't think he was going to deliver a style and sound consistent to what Halcyon is about. As has been said JJ has been around for a very long time and he is very keen to be getting back to playing a more uplifting sound however, he presently has no avenues in Sydney in which he can do that! We are giving him that opportunity and i encourage you to all come along with an open mind! I guarantee his set will rock...just ask any one who went to John 00 Fleming and heard what he played that night...JJ will be the goods
I guarantee it
cheers guys

JJ used to play decent stuff at progress a couple of years ago, before they signed exclusive contracts for sublime. Of course bing tied to subs every week is going to force you to play a certain style. And following diggs, morro and mr darey, the mould will be well set for him by then.
Eek, that was a very very long weekend, cheers Chookie and Bragi for the day after chillout session, and the DVD stuff and the CD we were listening to over coffee the next morning, for the drive home
. Had a fun night and day followed by a long drive home to canberra saturday night (except I decided not to go home oh dear...)
Diggs and Morro played the Sweeping strings mix of ATRC and Sample Gee played Armin's mix. I personaly prefer the Sweeping strings mix !
Ok guys ill try and keep an open mind....
Oh and i find that call about me not knowing the difference between jumpin jack and junior jack a tad bit offensive - i have been in the scene for years now you know!

OK, I just want to say, now that I can think straight due to actually having some sleep, I had an fuckin awesome weekend.
I was awake for 60 hours straight. I was not tired at all, and by Sunday afternoon if anyone could actually understand me I'd be very surprised!
I had such a great time at halcyon, and then afterwards hanging out at my place. I had such great conversations and just enjoyed the great company.
Looking forward to the next halcyon!!!

I was very much in the same boat as you by the end of the weekend. Where'd you guys end up going after I left? (I so hope you left the Roxbury and that crappy old people's music)
I must say that has to be the best Halcyon so far
. I also think the TA team was at their happiest and am sure we all danced more on Friday than we have in a very long time!!!
Sample Gee....best set of his so far that I been at. Loved the way not only he but all djs mixed up the styles. Uplifting melodic is mainly what most Halcyons are about but jumping up and down with hands in air can really wear you out by half way thru night. This time though it felt more like a sweet chilli/halcyon combination, another reason why I think most of us lasted all night. So glad Cam was last to play too, his track selection was just the perfect to end of the night.
Only downer of the night was the moment the music went off and lights on. Did not expect it and was a shock to the system.Think Cam was only like half way thru the set? Felt like was a kid eating icecream for the first time and someone just came and snatched it for me
. Feel slightly embarrassed for standing on the podium and yelling where is my music, who took my music but thats me, am crazy so who cares lol.
Also got to take around 50 shots and have some beautiful ones of most of the tas there with heaps of great group shots too and vids with highlights of Cam and Samples set. Got no host so cant upload but will become an itm contributer in the next few days and put up there unless someone has a better option.
Huge hug and hello to all my T/A friends and to the new ones I met that night too. Hope no-one feels they were too interrogated by Bel and I and hope no-one took offense at us. Just were in this super friendly mood and wanted to meet and learn as much about ppl as we could. Not sure how I myself would react though if some stranger was just in my face going blah blah blah a million miles an hour. Also remember standing in doorway of toilets and saying to everyone that walked in, hi who are you, why are you here, what do you do, wanna dance up front..lol lol lol
If I didnt already have my Seaman ticket think I would re-consider and go to Halcyon instead now. I chose Seaman over the next Halcyon (first I will not be attending
) but after the great night I had am having second thoughts but too late as have ticket.
Sorry to Lisa, Sel, Lee, James and rest for not joining in the after party hangout. Next time am sure we will all be organised and no-one will have anything they have to do the next day .
don't stress eddie - we'll have an awesome time at seaman
when else are we gonna get the chance to see him playin such an intimate set with only 200 ppl there?? halcyon's at least once a month...seaman isn't....methinks we've made the right choice
also, i've checked out a few matt darey sets lately, and i have to say he doesn't really do it for me (sorry psygnosis...hehe) - knowin ur tastes, he might not for u either..... besides, we'll be in syd 2 weeks later for B&J/Kid Vicious - that'll be awesome and i know ur hangin out for that

...was hoping to meet ALL the TA this time
Thanks to everyone who came out to support Halcyon and for being such a responsive crowd...there has been a few negative comments about the place on here and ITM about my set.
A few too many classics for some people (most were spanking new mixes), for others not as good as other sets they have heard from me. I dunno, I guess a night out is all about how you feel within yourself. Maybe after the #5 DJ position people expect fireworks to come out of my arse, or the DJ booth to explode or something! Anyway, I had a great time and from where I was standing so was 98% of the crowd. It was a great arms in the air atmos for the whole two hours and I gave it 110%.
Hope to come back to Halcyon again soon. See you Melbournians on Nov 1st and the Brisbane trance massive on Nov 14th for the last gig on the Destinations tour.
