I do it all the time. What the fuck is the point of going with someone else? You can't talk to them or anything. That's overwhelmingly stupid.
The only people I know that have been to the movies alone are major movie buffs or people who wanted to see a movie that no one else did. To me movies are social, I like the company whether it be a friend or a date or my son....If I want to see something no onse else does I will get it when it comes out on dvd and watch it when I am bored.
It really depends on the movie.
To me movies I see fall into two categories, theres the social movies, and the movies I consider art.
So the social movies are like Resident Evil, Monority report, all those comedies and dumb action flicks etc that you see with your friends, and you make jokes and comments at the movie together to increase your enjoyment of it.
Then theres art. Im talking about stuff like LOTR, the Matrix trilogy, Gladiator. These I see alone because they are really works of art and having noise and stupid questions and jokes really bring me out of my state of awe when watching somehting so aesthetically perfect as LOTR or the atmosphere of the Matrix for example. Fuck, sometimes I get so caught up in a movie like that I have tears going down my cheeks, and I'm a guy!!!

I was thinking of this the other day, but I never have.
once or twice
only on occasion
most of the time other people want to see the same stuff you do anyways

I used to work in a cinema. One good thing about the job was that I could go to see any film I wanted, at any time of the day or night whenever I felt like it, and could also take up to 4 friends with me for free. I never went by myself, but I would on my lunch break sometimes just go and watch a film for an hour or so. I guess that counts as by myself, but that's just because I happened to be in the building. Sometimes i'd just sneak in while I was meant to be working too and sit at the front hidden in my chair. I'd have my radio turned down, and could hear over it the managers going "where the fucks mike."

Of course i have been to the movies alone.Even when i have a girlfriend I sometimes watch alone anyways.(girls are just irritating in the cinema)
Also, I dont go to the movies on weekends..(the tickets are way to expensive and the crowds make the whole experience shitty)thus..not many people are free on weekdays and I usually end up going to the movies alone.
Its fun and u dont have to explain to ur stupid friends about the plot.

I usually go by myself, mostly cos I'm usually seeing independant/non-hollywood movies that most people never bother with. I don't really see what the trouble is, frankly I prefer to go to the movies by myself, since:
a) you get complete freedom to choose what you're gonna see
b) it's not like you're gonna be talking to your friends while the movie is on (and if you do, shut the fuck up, people are trying to watch a movie)
c) when you're alone it's easier to reflect over what you just saw and let the impressions sink in
d) you get the popcorn and/or candy all to yourself
It's always nice to sit next to someone you care about in the cinema and exchange views and reflections with them after the movie though, I'll admit that.
I go to movies by myself... not us much as i used tho. all my friends think its weird but i totally don't see their point. when i go with my friends, its like this thing when you have to dress up and make plans where to meet, what to do afterwards and that always falls on me
. annoying. sometimes you just wanna go see a good quality movie and have quality sometime to yourself. i really don't see whats so wrong with that... oh well.
hahaha this is soo cool... nice to know that i'm not the only freak around here who likes to watch movies by themself

how about been going clubbing alone?
I have quite a lot of times. I always find people and friends there - but I guess it all depends on where you live and the clubs you go to.
alot of times it is better to just go alone, as not everybody wants to see the films you want to see. It also saves the headache of trying ot setup a time and location so that all your friends can make it.
there used to be a dollar theater in town when i was kid, i would pay the dollar and sleep there during the summer because they had the air conditioner on.
