that is shitty... i try to go during the day or right after work (though i rarely go at all). there is less people at that time of day and definitely less punk kids. i go to movies cause i want to see them not cause it is any kiond of social outing...

minority report
me and my buddy did the same thing 2 summers ago

your dumb..

but i feel the same way... sad isn't it?

I do it all the time. What the fuck is the point of going with someone else? You can't talk to them or anything. That's overwhelmingly stupid.

Posted by euphoria on Jun-30-2004 02:18:

The only people I know that have been to the movies alone are major movie buffs or people who wanted to see a movie that no one else did. To me movies are social, I like the company whether it be a friend or a date or my son....If I want to see something no onse else does I will get it when it comes out on dvd and watch it when I am bored.

Posted by Cal on Jun-30-2004 03:01:

It really depends on the movie.

To me movies I see fall into two categories, theres the social movies, and the movies I consider art.

So the social movies are like Resident Evil, Monority report, all those comedies and dumb action flicks etc that you see with your friends, and you make jokes and comments at the movie together to increase your enjoyment of it.

Then theres art. Im talking about stuff like LOTR, the Matrix trilogy, Gladiator. These I see alone because they are really works of art and having noise and stupid questions and jokes really bring me out of my state of awe when watching somehting so aesthetically perfect as LOTR or the atmosphere of the Matrix for example. Fuck, sometimes I get so caught up in a movie like that I have tears going down my cheeks, and I'm a guy!!!

I was thinking of this the other day, but I never have.

Posted by Photo_bot_2k1 on Jun-30-2004 04:52:

once or twice

agreed. although it does give you something to talk about later over a coffee or something

yeah thats the reason couples used to go to movies together. had to keep quiet for a while then it gave them a lot of stuff to chat about later.

I've been to a cinema alone more than once. Nothing wrong about it. If you're bothered about what others will say if they see you there alone then you don't deserve to be living among civilized people - just get over it.

Posted by mactheknife on Jun-30-2004 05:51:

i've never been alone, just because i dont drive so i have no way to get there.

me and my girlfriend were in one alone the other day, that was nice

I used to work in a cinema. One good thing about the job was that I could go to see any film I wanted, at any time of the day or night whenever I felt like it, and could also take up to 4 friends with me for free. I never went by myself, but I would on my lunch break sometimes just go and watch a film for an hour or so. I guess that counts as by myself, but that's just because I happened to be in the building. Sometimes i'd just sneak in while I was meant to be working too and sit at the front hidden in my chair. I'd have my radio turned down, and could hear over it the managers going "where the fucks mike."

i dont know about your experiences but i hated working in a theatre...the customers especially when you work in concession are so fucking stupid and rude it pisses the shit out of me...you have people ordering 10 different items and all of a sudden changing their minds and making you take everything back and you have to completely change the order and restart...and we were only allowed to let one other person along with yourself to watch a free movie...and its especially ridiculous when people after walking out of a theatre they'd toss all their trash on or under the seats instead of taking it out and properly throwing it in trash cans right outside making our jobs more of a bitch

oh yeah and our pay was shit too...minimum wage suckers

Posted by trewqy on Jun-30-2004 07:20:

Of course i have been to the movies alone.Even when i have a girlfriend I sometimes watch alone anyways.(girls are just irritating in the cinema)

Also, I dont go to the movies on weekends..(the tickets are way to expensive and the crowds make the whole experience shitty)thus..not many people are free on weekdays and I usually end up going to the movies alone.

Its fun and u dont have to explain to ur stupid friends about the plot.

damn... can't believe some people still think that way. my general answer when i go to movies, clubbing, events, is mostly "alone" because it's the truth, and i don't mind it. don't have any friends to go to most places, have made a group of clubber friends recently though, but i normally fly solo to mostly, everything.

Posted by Sand Leaper on Jun-30-2004 07:54:

I usually go by myself, mostly cos I'm usually seeing independant/non-hollywood movies that most people never bother with. I don't really see what the trouble is, frankly I prefer to go to the movies by myself, since:

a) you get complete freedom to choose what you're gonna see
b) it's not like you're gonna be talking to your friends while the movie is on (and if you do, shut the fuck up, people are trying to watch a movie)
c) when you're alone it's easier to reflect over what you just saw and let the impressions sink in
d) you get the popcorn and/or candy all to yourself

It's always nice to sit next to someone you care about in the cinema and exchange views and reflections with them after the movie though, I'll admit that.

Posted by MysticStardust on Jun-30-2004 07:55:

I go to movies by myself... not us much as i used tho. all my friends think its weird but i totally don't see their point. when i go with my friends, its like this thing when you have to dress up and make plans where to meet, what to do afterwards and that always falls on me . annoying. sometimes you just wanna go see a good quality movie and have quality sometime to yourself. i really don't see whats so wrong with that... oh well.

Posted by MysticStardust on Jun-30-2004 07:58:

hahaha this is soo cool... nice to know that i'm not the only freak around here who likes to watch movies by themself

Posted by tnt_ on Jun-30-2004 08:21:

how about been going clubbing alone?
I have quite a lot of times. I always find people and friends there - but I guess it all depends on where you live and the clubs you go to.

Posted by blazed it on Jun-30-2004 12:12:

alot of times it is better to just go alone, as not everybody wants to see the films you want to see. It also saves the headache of trying ot setup a time and location so that all your friends can make it.

there used to be a dollar theater in town when i was kid, i would pay the dollar and sleep there during the summer because they had the air conditioner on.
