lol, I did one of those "hacker" things once just for fun. Most of it was Javascript, only the last few levels were at all challanging... A bit of fun for awhile I guess. The decent one I played once was when you had to look for bugs in device drivers and all sorts of shit. No web interface, just a nice unix shell

in the 'right' file, there is a comment //*cough* before that there is a line of binary .. if i 'translate' that to ascii it has some strange caraters in it.. and i have no idea how to type those (i can ctrl+v them) so before i start to search for a way to type that.. is that the password?

I'd say that is strange, what's up with the double equals and the apostrophes.

If you add `command` to a unix-bash style command phrase, you'd get the first program in the string to use the output of what's inside the ``'s.

That was a bad explanation. Say you'd want to play all the mp3 files in a directory. Then mpg123 `ls *.mp3` would do.

Get it!?

I also discovered that there is an empty directory in www.xipernet.com/main

There is something funny, but I can't figure it out yet!

it isn't empty

there are to gif files in there, a blank image and some return to previous page arrow.. and 4 folders i cannot acces

Well, u converted the numbers to ascii and got those 2 weird characters, that should be the password. U can't copy and paste, go to the character map and check on how to type those. I know the first character, but not the 2nd, can't find it

Oy vey, you guys have been spending too much time with your "binary posts" and "binary translators" on the chillout.

BINARY != ASCII

Just convert the bloody thing to decimal and type the number as the password.

hmm not sure. But as far as I know the term started being used in the MIT A.I. lab in the 60s as it was used in a similar fashion among teenage radio hams.

Yeah, the term hacker started out at MIT to describe people who did outrageous pranks ("hacks"). Then it evolved into the programming world to talk about the programs - a quick-and-dirty program that's put together in 5 minutes is a "hack", and the hackers were the ones that wrote them.

Then it evolved into sort of a security term, people wrote hacks to test and exploit security systems. The programs were called hacks because they were 'dirty', not because they had anything to do with security. But then the god damn script kiddies got on the bandwagon and decided that downloading those programs and running them on their friends' web sites made them 31337 ]-[@x0|25. Fucking idiots. Now the term "hacker" in the media refers to any 13-year-old packet monkey with an internet connection and a lot of spare time.

Ehh... that won't be necessary... Peoples in this forum are already lacking of getting into this site.

But it's good that alot of you's are on the right track and converting the password to decimal, revealing the 4 digit password. Nice Work doesn't that // *cough* comment gives you a feeling that their's something fishy on that line? hehe. Yeah, the second phase is like a linux bash-shell style interface. Now we just have to figure out right commands
