armin or pvd will take it next year...and then one of those 2 will take it again in 2 years.....then the house will creep back in with steve lawler/j.zabiela or even sasha / digs taking it again in 3 years.....

Posted by bluE_Neon on Oct-31-2003 02:44:

yea fucken right, Lee Burridge #30, when he was #10 last year the top five hasn't changed at all for the past couple of years James Zabiela as much to my surprise is #11 Guy Ornadel #98, yea right whatever this is a bullshit list anyway lol
YEA GOOO TIESTOOOOOOOO *raises his hands like TIESTO does on every show he has *

Posted by Endlesswave on Oct-31-2003 03:07:

WTF.

It was PvD's easily...fucking popularity contest is right.

Posted by StereoPrincess on Oct-31-2003 03:09:

All I have to say is BLAH to Tiesto.

(but go buy the DVD because I'm it it).

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Oct-31-2003 03:10:

I haven't posted here in ages but whatever.

Great for Tiesto....he deserved it, but this is the last time I'll vote in the Dj Mag poll. I'm also glad PvD was #2 and not Armin. Armin has disappointed me the last year or so....Armin Van Boring indeed. Ferry moved right up there too, which is great.

So...here we have it. Trance Dj's in the Top 3 spots. To all those who have said that Trance is dying and prog/house/techno is taking over....well don't you look silly?

Posted by E2EK1EL on Oct-31-2003 03:28:

Sorry if I piss anyone off here.

Tiesto should NOT have won the #1 spot agian. He was the shit when he spun proppa trance in 2000 & 2001 but, now ... he's changed and so has attitude.

Perfect example about his attitude ? The guy keeps changing genres, on his Nyana CD .. he had to make it a double CD to please everyone and finally the title and all the awards footages in his current DvD.

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Oct-31-2003 03:38:

I understand a lot of people's frustration for Tiesto these days. He is my favourite moreso based on what he did pre 2002. Tiesto from 97-2001 was unequalled in my mind but he has weakend a bit in the last two years. ISOS3 was very different, but still good. Nyana was decent.....not great and certainly not a classic but there are some great tunes on that cd.

I think, if Tiesto REALLY wants to win back the fans who crave the banging, uplifting trance style....he has to do a Magik 8. There is no question that the Magiks and ISOS are his most famous series and the reasons why most love him in the first place.

I'll never expect another Magik 6 or Innercity 99 (two flawless mix albums), but i think he needs to get away from the Nyana/Traffic direction and get back to his roots. I doubt he will take my advice, but I do have to admit that I love Tiesto based more on what he HAS done rather than what he is doing NOW. Believe me, it takes a lot to admit that. That's why I won't vote in next year's Dj Mag.

why does trance dominate the rankings?? not that im complaining, but what is Dj Mag supposed to be a trance magazine or something?...

it's not a trance magazine....it's a general electronica magazine....if anything, it has more emphasis on the house genre since it is British. Everyone will just have to accept that trance is massively popular...perhaps more now than ever, as is shown in the Dj rankings last year and especially this year.

i cant believe dumonde aint even up there...how sad.

Posted by DigiNut on Oct-31-2003 03:59:

Christopher Lawrence #35, way to go Chris!

Score 1 for the underappreciated!

Posted by Rocco on Oct-31-2003 04:15:

WOOOOOOOOOOOOT
56 Max Graham

i know it's too high but he's not as "good popular" as "Tiesto"

DJ magazine reflects the mood of the club proper...

1997,98,99 were all about trance until the formage kick'd in and people started looking for something new.

2000, 2001 were all about prog. People were sick of the uplifting, formage trance and wanted something more meaningful. Prog filled the boots. People declared trance dead.

2002, 2003 - trance rose back up (due to formage prog), filled the hearts of the despondent (sad prog listeners) and built a new realm of quality happy, emotional tracks.

--

Bottom line - the last 2 years trance re-built itself. Prog had overtaken the formage/crap trance that was being produced - and it took a few years (and a few good djs: tiesto, ferry, armin, pvd) to build back the happy sounds of late 1999.

Personally - I'm happy. Trance lives within me and makes me move. Prog did it's thing (rationalized me) but now that uplifting, spirited trance is back I'm happier than ever.

Further I think:

the uplifting and mellower prog will shift erras every 2 to 3 years from now until infinity.

IMO - It will go like this for a long while:

good trance --> formage trance --> good prog --> formage prog --> good trance --> repeat...

Indeed, this is very sad....they should have been in top 100 for sure....ohh well

Plus, Guy Ornadel - 98...WTF

"formage"...now, maybe I'm missing something, but do you guys mean FROMAGE as in "cheese" Jeez...if you're gonna use the lingo, get it right

Good for Tiesto...no, he's not the "best" DJ, but it's pretty hard to dispute his popularity...I love that trance DJs took the top three with Ferry close behind at #6.

Scumfrog will be on that list next year, I hope...and nice to see Max up there too. MO would be up there if he toured...he'll have to be content being near the top of many TOTA's DJ list

Posted by malek on Oct-31-2003 06:35:

if everyone in the edm scene voted, house and techno would be way better represented in this top100. only 50000 votes??!?! thats it?? I would give 100$ to see how many votes #100 got, i bet it wouldn't be 200 votes. ridiculous.

atb? blank and jones? mike?!?! wtf these guys doing in a DJ top 100 ???

bleh.

yea, i agree...i'm easing the pain that the top 3 spots are trance dj's by telling myself that within the next 2-3 years James Holden & Zabiela are gonna be owning that list methinks.

...k, i'm just kidding about the 'easing pain' part, lol. But I do agree that "prog" and uplifting trance are going to alternate every few years. I'm really happy for PvD and honestly, I was rooting for him to be number 1. He really deserves it after all the accomplishments in the past. But at least he finally moved up from number 4. So thats good

KarateKid

PVD shall be #1 next year ..

anyways guys dun worry so much about this list .. remember, it's meaningless!

I'm really suprised @ what a big deal this is to alot of you...

It's mostly an internet poll, and hardly a reflexion of a DJ's talent on the decks, that's what catching them live is for.

This simple seems like a glorified popularity contest, with whomever ws the biggest publicity/touring/production whore in the scene getting placed on there.

Supastar DJ culture = yawn

but this simple internet poll, gives them the title, DJ OF THE YEAR and everywhere they go it's, DJ OF THE YEAR, every flyer & poster says 'Live in Your Town, the DJ OF THE YEAR...'

magazine covers, tv shows, pretty much everytime you see of hear tiesto's name, DJ OF THE YEAR will follow it

he's not the real DJ of the year. my grandma can mix better
