Can't win - if a DJ plays crap he gets slatted, if he plays well he gets slatted too cause he plays similar tracklistings |
What is a DJ there to do, entertain the crowd.
And it would seem that the crowd is rather enjoying his sets recently, I sure as hell did when I was goin buck mad to the tunes he was spinning.
yeah ive been very annoyed by the excess repetetive quality that has been there in his sets the last couple of months. but its true, he is taking these sets to different places for different audiences for a certain promotion, we aren't meant to hear all of them!
but, its just unusually repetetive. normally he has his favorite tracks you're gauranteed to hear but there is enough variation to make each a unique experience. im looking forward to the 6 hour set in new york...
as for boston, if he comes back here and plays the same set he played in the end of august, that will be a real reason to complain
but he has close to two weeks, maybe, just maybe, he will surprise us. i hope he realizes that he was here recently enough for people to have heard the same shit already live.
I'd like to say that the direction this thread needs to go in is not necessarily, "Why is PVD playing the same stuff over and over again," but rather, "Why are you listening to the same DJ over and over again?"
I think it's perfectly fine for a DJ such as PVD to play a consistent set. He is marketing an album and promoting sales, and I hope as a result, getting more people who might otherwise be hooked on Top 40 now hooked on the sounds and sights of the dance music scene.
But it's my opinion that veterans need to take their love for the music a level or two deeper and begin to explore the hundreds and thousands of talented DJs and Producers out there who aren't in the top 10, and who probably haven't made the Top 100 popularity polls, who are nonetheless gifted, talented, and who will blow your fucking mind with their music.
Everyone is griping about the scene dying and they aren't getting support for gigs and record sales on one hand, and on the other, folks are griping that there is the same old same old with same old DJs. I suggest that if everyone takes their support to where there is new music, innovation, and a fresh perspective, you will start to see that there is a lot more than the same 20 tracks over and over and over again.
You might hear something that inspires you, and you'll prolly save a lot of money, too. Pay attention to what's going on underground in your own back yards.
I love PVD and Tiesto and the likes. They have given me some real eye-opening moments.
But fans need to keep pushing and holding artists accountable by supporting a competitive marketplace that supports new creativity.

But come of it people, all DJ's are guilty of having the same setlist for a while. Only we are noticing it a hell of a lot more with PvD atm, coz his sets are getting broadcasted 24/7, and too make things worse for him people are taking in minidiscs and recording his sets with microphones. Granted there are always going to be a few tracks that he has to keep playing like crush, nby, tool, connected etc. that everyone is getting a bit sick of, but you have to remember that he is on a Reflections tour to promote his album. Therefore he has to play these tracks over and over because how stupid would it be if he didn't after the night has been advertised as part of his reflections tour. But like every DJ, he sticks to a similar playlist for a while with some variation, puts in a few classics, and then soon enough he'll be moving onto a different playlist. If you all didnt download every single PvD set going then you wouldn't be fussed at all with tracks that keep getting repeated. If you go see him at your local club, and then go and see him again when he returns a couple of months later, if he is still playing the same tracks as before, then you have the right to moan. But until that happens, stfu
I guess these are some of the reasons why PvD hates the internet.

if we're slating pvd for repetitive sets then lets slate johan gielen and scot project. scot has been playing the same stuff for two years now!
if they play the same stuff @ the same clubs/area then go ahead and bash them.
LMAO @ this thread!
Before the DJ Mag results came in all of you were like "PvD is #1!", "PvD is God!", "PvD is a fucking amazing producer!". Now he doesn't win and you begin to realize why.
I guess it's time for most of you to jump OFF the bandwagon. It's about damn time.

In more ways than one i'm glad PvD didn't become number 1, so now all the bandwaggoners can fuck rite off to whereever they came from, and the real fans can get back to enjoying PvD without all the tag along sheep

It seems to me, that since theres so much quality music out there, and almost all of it will make its way to him very quickly theres no reason that someone like me, who listens to between 0 and 2 pvd sets in a month, should be able to i.d 99% of the stuff in one of his sets.

Okay guys here is my question to you all, what would you guys want to see him play, all suggestions welcomed. I am looking at it from his perspective of what can he play that is different or original, other than some different mixes of Reflections. I am going to Roxy and I am almost sure that we will here a lot of these songs mentioned, because of the album and the length of the set he will play as well. I would love for him to play some songs from his Global CD such as Forbidden Fruit, Seven Ways, Beautiful Place, Animacion, and I feel he will have to. Just drink some beers, get a buzz and fly away with the smooth sounds.
i would like to see him stop playin PVD reworks and remixes. Its getting to a point where i starting to believe that he plays a lot of reworks for mixing ease.
