He's not my style.
I saw him 4 times this year in Holland, and every time I just had to leave because I couldn't take it any longer. Gaylen has absolutely no taste or class and is the lowest common denominator of what a trance dj from the Dutch/Belgian schools should be.

fair enough to a lot of the comments, but Gielen plays the style of trance i prefer...i think Lift-Off is better than the likes of ASOT for that fact, doesnt mean i hate Armin and his choice of trance, i dont,i like it, but all u who diss gielen are too closed minded.
Gielen is a DJ who isnt afraid to try new stuff out when he is at parties but saying that i have to agree he doesnt pull it off sometimes and again his track selection has gone down a bit but he is on the way back up and it should be a better year for him in 2004.
as far as im concerned im member #3
I think he needs to stick to producing...
I don't care for his track selection when he's spinning
most of you guys rate djs by there productions level ....i dont know shit about gielen djing/productions last few years ..i just remember when i did see him being total cheezey ball dj. I you had the actual list determin on how well they dj rather then popularity u would find a much different top 100 list. but hey i used to be nieve and like cheezy djs too hehe

IMO, i really enjoy gielen's performances. if anything, he's really into the music and the crowd when he spins and that gets reflected to the crowd and back to him.
he's a very good crowd pleaser.
i am sorry to mention this .. but wtf ? .. this is getting a little bit twisted ... past couple of threads i have seen either a flame or bash in oakie, pvd, tiesto, gaby n' drez, now gielen .... i love johan gielen and his work .. everytime i hear his music, there is some kind of unknown pleasure inside my soul .... i feel like you guys are from the real world and i am from fujirama .. who do you think are good djs ???? .. dj dean? scooter? .. do you enjoy the beauty of silence and whispers as good music ?? i hope u say no to those please!!! .. haha .. but please answer the question ... hahahhahaha little gielen jokes there ... corny ain't it .. but to all u bashers .. who do u think are considered quality djs?
one last thing ... can't we all just get along and follow the trance anthem theme .. in trance we trust .. hahaha just had to plug that in ...

I like his collabarotions with Svenson, producing incredible remixes and songs. Their work with songs like Close Cover, Dreaming of You or Watching the waves is really good (in my opinion...).
We Know What you Did and The Beauty of Silence are also great tunes.
i think johan is an excellent producer... but as for his dj'ing
skill's...eh, i agree with the last person who said "he should stick
to producing".

LOL he's cheese at it's finest.....
Only good tunes he was part of where Twisted (but Svenson made the best parts of that track) and Airscape remix of DJ Tiesto - Sparkles which i would bet Sven Maes did all the leg work....
besides those tunes i think he is no better then Jean...
and what is everyones fascination with "We Know What You Did" and "The beauty of Silence"...those tunes are terrible....but hey thats my opinion.
I don't care what anyone says I think his Trance Energy set of 02 was sick period.
Johan thyrows done wicked parties all the time. The minute he hits the deck, everyone starts jumping.
Ask any of the TOTA's that have been to see him.. Pure energy..
