you are unable to ski because of capitalism.

yeah, blue mtn and mt st. louis are about both about 1hr drive away, and are decent...

i've been skiing since i was 7, i kinda wanna go for something different now so i'll try out snowboarding... everyone that has tried it said it was way better than skiing...

does anyone know if the season has started yet? i thought i heard on the news that it snowed in barrie last week

It's true, snowboarding is way more fun than skiing. I skiied my whole life and even used to race, but I had much better times sucking at snowboarding than I did being good at skiing.

I THINK Horeshoe Valley has some runs open...not too sure, but fuck Horseshoe. Louis and Blue Mountain are better.

kay, snowboarding it is then, i'm down for some suckin'!

anyways, how does everyone feel about dec 19/20 weekend as our inaugural get together? i think pretty much all exams are done by then...

Posted by brunette on Dec-04-2003 15:20:

noooooooooo I don't feel good about that.. I'm returning the 26th

Posted by Speedy2k on Dec-04-2003 16:28:

Me and my friends rented a cottage from dec 18 - 23 in collingwood. Going to check out blue mountain, but I hear it is pretty shitty compared to the mountains in Quebec. I might give snowboarding a try since I suck at skiing anyways.

Blue is not bad...especially after the little village and the renovations they made there over the off season. I havent been to quebec mountains yet so I can't compare but Blue is a great resort lots of rides...

i'm planning to go to blue mountain a few times with friends this break so i definitely wouldn't mind meeting up with some t.as while there! i'm in

Posted by LiANG on Dec-06-2003 02:56:

I'm definitely up for a ski trip during the Christmas/NewYrs break but I hope its somewhere close by if we do end up going.

Posted by mute79 on Dec-06-2003 22:02:

^^ It'll definitely be close

either mt st louis - 1hr drive, or blue mountain 2.5 hrs

i know they're nothing great, but i don't think anybody here would feel like driving anywhere further

oh, can anyone tell me what are some things to look out for when buying a snow board? i'm guessing there's different sizes, lengths, widths etc...

ok, your height (and to a smaller degree weight) should determine the length of the board

length is also determinded by what you want to do, if you want to do crazy flips tricks n stuff, you get a shorter board, tighter turning radius, and is lighter.
if you are like me, and want a smooth carved out turn, you go a lil longer
Im 5'10 and Im on a 163, which is WAY too big for me(I should be on a 157-59), but I love it. And then when I swap boards with buddies for a few runs, I fly thru my turns cuz I dont have to power the board thru it.
anyways..different boards come in different lengths. DO NOT BUY BY DESIGN! they are cosmetic, and really arent that handy when going down a hill, they only encourage theft while takin a piss break in the lodge.

the size of your feet(and boots) determines the waist size of the board. Ive got size 11 feet, but a size 12 1/2 32(32 is a brand) boot
they are freaking moonboots....
anyways, toe drag is a bitch. your toes/heels hanging over the edge of the board will add some serious drag and send you flying onto your face or ass a few times. Dont be bullied by a sales person. Buy boots first. then a board, then bindings.
So buy the boots, and make sure they dont stick over the edge too much, 3/4 of an inch is about the max you want hanging over the edge. Dont be afraid to ask for a wide board if you think you might need it. Talk it over w/ the salesperson, but too much hang is a bad thing, it fucked me the first board I had.
You will notice that Burtons have(d) a gay 3D binding system which makes you need to buy Burton binding, or at least a 3D plate. So I dont support them.

so ya..buy your boots, take them shopping for the baord with you. And for the love of god, Dont buy from Sport Chek etc. Find a skate shop, board shop etc and buy from them. The prices may be (a bit) more, and the customer service not that great, but those are the people that live and die for the snow. They should be able to answer anything you need to, and once you show interest in them, they should bite. They see alot of posers and are a lil stuck up...I understand why.

Personally I like Ride. Sorry, I love Ride.
Tell me height/weight/foot size and ill see what I can find.
