dude, go to your profile, then edit profile (on the top) and then there's a box for your sig in the middle, add [*IMG]http://www.mauritius.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/other/proteus.gif[/IMG] to it without the asterisk

i hear what ya sayin, all the melodies are getting almost boring (ill shoot myself tmorrow)

BUT..

i was round me mates house last nite listenin to a music channel and we caught the last bit of 'Guns n Roses - November Rain'. The main electric guitar bit that plays the melody in the last two minutes or so sounded well good, i liked it a lot. i wasnt much interested in the rest of the song but i was thinkin, if a producer put some riff (i think thas what its called) like that into a tune, how bloomin good would it sound??

this is only preliminary but the melody is stuck in my head an i love it!! i certainly ent heard something like this in trance, correct me if im wrong please but it would certainly be an interestin innovation

have a listen an see what ya think,

cheers,

He'll be into country.

As for sick of trance, i've been listening to the same genre for almost 12 years, I am still not stick of it, and frankly I dont give a shit what anyone has to say about the genre, it's beautiful, and if something is truely beautiful, it does not get ugly over time.

Haha! I'm three months ahead of you guys. Got sick of trance and stopped listening to it altogether. I just stuck with house and breaks while my friend got me into rap, so thats all I listen to now. Occasionally I listen to some trance by my favorite labels like Banshee.

Monkey Dancer 2 why ambient???

Telepop music - Just Breathe

that's the only ambient I know and it's really good.

I thought the next step of trance is progressive? why ambient? YOU CANNOT DANCE WITH AMBIENT, period.

Not all music is meant to be danced, duh.

And just because you can't dance to it doesn't mean nobody can.

Banco De Gaia - Obsidian = tune!

Agree, thts indeed a tune !! I wud suggest some stuff by Global Communication for chillout...

Global Communication - Epsilon Phase
Global Communication - Alpha Phase

And then get back to trance by listening to...

Gaurdians of the earth - Remember
(14 minutes of uplifting trance which u r certain to hv stuck on repeat)

Posted by jdjd on Nov-16-2003 01:27:

guys, there IS no next step...

it's all bullshit, if someone said "you'll like prog after you understand trance," it's bs, it depends strictly on your taste...

as for me, i just got tired of listening to melodic stuff, that's it, so for the next 2-5 days i'll listen to other stuff, that's why asked for recommendations. i've done it before, and i've always come back to melodic. i'm not saing trance sucks and that i'm gonna stop listening to it for the rest of my life, ffs! and i'm not going to dance, just listen!

p.s. that global communication stuff is wicked

Posted by swe_Trancer on Nov-16-2003 02:14:

ok I don't really know what ambient is. but isn't it like Chicane - offshore?

I've always felt that the salvation of trance in its current state is tech-trance. Marco V and Katana are virtually the only ones paving the way, aside from the occasional hard production from Tiesto (Flight 643, Traffic) and Paul (Out There, Movement).

Trance needs to leave this fluffy uplifting side of itself for a while, stop beating a dead horse, and move on, at least temporarily. The dark side of trance has barely had room to breathe. Check out Deniro - Mind of Man and think of the possibilities.

i kinda miss the old-school mid-nineties stuff with goa elements... the '99 oakey psysymphonic music... in any case, there will always be people who do like only the melodic stuff, so we can't just abandon it completely.

Yeah, me too. I've always liked the trance that was inbetween the UK goa boom and the '99 explosion, like on the early Hook releases. I think a hard version of this style would kick the crap out of uplifting for at least a little while; like a fusion of dark trance and tech-trance.

You'll probably find any album by Boards of Canada refreshing, especially their album "Music Has The Rights To Children". The track Telephasic Workshop is great.

OMFG can i be like you?

btw, it's usually the other way around; your friends usually get you away from mainstream american craprap, not into it

your a joke

Re: i'm sick of trance

Way ahead of ya.

Grab the WOW set from djmixes 2k. It's pretty good.

But actually I still listen to some old tiesto & armin stuff sometimes from years back.

This is a pretty good set:

i second that
boards of canada are amazing.
also check out the Sigur Ro's sorta radioheadish Iclandic band. very awsome.

also with all this talk right now with the new GU and such, check out James Lavelle's mix comps and some DJ shadow
