oh ya, and its allen & HEATH, just in case it wasn't a typo

Aye, me is going to have to agree with you there. I have one also and use it to less than half it's potential. When I got it there was something about building stuff into it but I have no idea what they (A&H) were talking about.

Have to say though anytime I play out and see any of the Xone mixers I know I'm gonna have a good night.

Cheers

The only problem I have with this thread is because it is alittle biast in the sense that people only vote for what they have used OR they vote for what other people say is the best. Unless you have used atleast half of the mixers on that list, than you cant put down a legit answer.

If you have never used or seen an Allen & Heath mixer (seeing the mixer in a pic doesnt count), why would you put it down? Because people say its the best? But if you havent used it, how would you know it is the best mixer? Same goes for Pioneer, etc...

Ive seen the A&H, Ive heard the A&H live in Club Arc in NYC, Ive even been in the DJ Booth with Edgar V at Club Arc before the club opened, and I will be buying the Xone:62 or :92 very very soon - I think this company puts out the best mixers, eventhough I havent used any other mixers. It is a biast answer but from what I heard few mixers come close to the quality of this mixer. The only mixers that I would think are at even level or higher is Dateq and Ecler.

I love the RANE

Just got the Rane Empath a few months ago. Can't rave enough about it. True, with only three channels it could be limiting to some of you, but I play 98% vinyl, so I have a single 1000 on the third...works perfect for me. The options are killer on this mixer, and not that it matters for this forum, but this mixer is perfect for all music styles.

Also, until you have played on a Rane you will never believe how clean your music can sound. With mixers like the Pioneer 500 or 600 the sound always travels through the EFX processors (even if you are not using EFX) before going out which will add distortion and possibly compression. I used to like the Rane rotary simply for the sound quality (in fact countless BIG NAMES refuse to play on any other mixer) however; I could never get over the fact that I couldn't change the EQ in my headphones. I like to EQ my headphones for certain mixing techniques I like to pull off. I can do this with the Empath and still have the Rane sound quality.

Aye,

The Rane Empath is a good mixer no doubt and should definately have been mentioned as it's a damn site better than a lot of mixers out there.
Not a well known mixer though within the dance music industry probably in part due to an endorsement by Grandmaster Flash which probably makes people think turntablism. Although it's not a purist turntablist mixer either.

It has Penny + Giles faders on it just like the Allen and Heath does and you can't go wrong there.

Not sure about that auto gain thing though. It's one of those tools that may seem nice initially but actually would stop the development of your DJ skills. One should know ones records well enough to be familiar with the more quiet/loud ones and this technology is kind of redundant as most DJs can get that right anyway. Just compare both tracks in your headphones before you drop the mix and problem sorted.

On a personal prefference note, I actually like the Pioneer more as I think it has a better layout than the Rane. The Rane can seem a little cramped to me. The sound quality difference between the two is lost in a club environment anyways.
I also find the quality of the EQs to be better on the A&H compared to the Rane. They just feel smoother some how.

Given a choice between the three and it's A&H all the way, but I am almost equally happy to see the other two when I work.

Will be interesting to see what the Xone 92 is all about.

Cheers

Vestax never seem to make anything bad.

It seems like the Vestax mixers are somewhat underrated.

And it also seems like just about every single company is copying off of the Pioneer DJM design.

Behringer DJX700
Vestax PMC-55
Denon DN-X1500
