Yep thats the Good life I was referring to, for 88' don't you consider that to have some of the early signs of a trace track?

WoW, energy 52, cafe del mar is from 92 ?!?! and is cosmic baby ?!?! wow .. neat !!!!
I thought trance came from part of the techno, trance, then it was converted into a goa sound ?!?! I dont know .. just wondering ..

In An Article I Have...

Well, about a year back my one of my friends showed me an article. I read it and it was about trance and shit. Well anywayz, I kept reading and reading then I came along BT. BT's real name is something like Brian Transue (sorry, I never spell it right ). They say in the article that thats where they got the word "trance" from was his last name. What do you think, is that a bunch of crap? Well, I have heard many different on where the word "Trance" came from, some people also said that trance is named trance because it takes you into a high state of emotion, feeling, and ectacy; Into a "trance". Hmm.. WellI dont know, what do you think?

Trance for this genre of music comes from the latter of your post.
It is the emotion / emotions we feel while listening / dancing to this music
That feeling of being high, lifted, onto another plane of being
that's how our music makes us feel
That's also where we get Euphoric Trance from, the feeling, the emotion . . .

Trinity, goodlife as trance, well it does not paticulary strike me as early trance, too pop like if u know what i mean.
i consider early trance as stuff like

vergeing from the happy house scene to trance that track

uh i think its brian transeau, but its bull that they called it trance cuz of him... "trance" music has existed for many centuries... in more of a tribal feel

Happy house was a sort of offshoot to Happy Hardcore.
did not really take off but it was getting more into trance, was kinda fast and lively but also getting more emotional not just banging out fast bass beats,
happy House had a very short life cos ppl were sick of happy hardcore and wanted to move away (FAR as possible) from Happy hardcore
Trance did that for a lot of ppl giving happy house an early death

Huuuummmm .... I doubt the word TRANCE came from Transeu, b/c the TRANCE word has been around for ages .. TRANCE is a state of mind, a higher state of altered consciousness .. you hear the word trance on old books .. where the monks say that they fall on a state of trance when they meditate and so on .
Well, the music that takes you into this state of mind, was applied this word since it took you into it, if you searched for TRANCE cd's, you will get results where its new age like kinda music . Look in amazon in NEW AGE top 100, and you will find lots of TRANCE music CD's, they are not the trance with the beats and so on ....
Plus, Trance music has been around about 10 - 12 yrs ago, and BT has been around for about 4 -5 yrs ?!?! if IM not mistaking .. well, IM just posting what I think, so this is not 100 % educated.

ok, I'm completely uneducated on the subject... but doesn't Robert Miles and 'dream' music contribute somehow to the birth of trance music? I hear a lot of people say that he was the father of what is now considered trance music...

Now I didn't want to get into this thread but when I read this I just had to. ROBERT MILES? the only thing he may be the father of is the cheesy dream dance kind of music you still hear in too many commercials and on samplers for those who think this is trance.
Trance music was there long before Miles, just check out some of the stuff that was mentioned like Cosmic Baby, 4 Voice, Dance2Trance and so on.
Miles just made the music easier to listen to, he made it POP-music but that doesn't make him something like the inventor of trance...
The Overlords, Delirium, Nautilus, LFO, Blue Movie are some names that influenced trance in my eyes...

Ok with the birth of trance i thought about a similar topic.. the birth of the DJ... who found out or inveted Beat Mixing?? and when or how did it start.. if u know what i mean?? when did the DJ take over the band and Juke box?? hope u all know what i mean...

Arent you overreakting a bit now? It was first when he realeased Children he became more of a Commercial artist with hits in the radio and stuff.... His album "DreamLand" (Which contains Children) was released in 1996 and if im not totally mistaken he did 1 or more albums before that which contained for example the famous (but not commercial) X-Files theme........I believe you can say that he was at least on of thos who developed trance to what it looks like today........ Nowadays i hate that guys music....it not quite trance anymore....but i still love him for the stuff he did when i was youg and went to buy "dreamland"......he helped me get into trance.... Peace!

you are so right, I agree with you 100%...miles invented the overhyped "dream dance" music with 'children' in 1996 and everybody was like omg I'm so cool and up-to-date cause I'm listening to trance that was actually cheesy dream dance pop. after the big success of 'children' there were at least 50 different dream dance samplers w/ stuff like 'dolphins mind'...I hate that kind of stuff sooo much

ok i see it this way....Trance has always been there... its just the labeling of genres of music envolve faster then the music ist self..so by saying this ..trance has always been around..... i remeber in the early 90s we all called it techno..whether it was trance,techno,hardcore etc.... it was all labeled techno.... when a mass of a certain style is being produced they start giving new labels.... ..Trance is just a label...but the music has always been there..... songs back in the early 90s that were called Techno ..woudl be called Trance now......

I think Trance in genreal as a production sense began in germany more then anywhere i think..... look at this ... 98-99 it was most trance called trance or progressive .. but if you took those same songs now and labeled them u would have hard trance,tech-trance,progressive,epic,melodic,upfliting,etc...etc...etc... is it a new style of trance No!!! but just a new name! =) so by saying who created trance..is extrememly hard to say..... who labeled it trance the first might be easier

That would be Francis Grosso in NY, 1969. He was the first to wait with the next record and let it go at the right spot so the song would seem to go on.
Real beat-mixing was done first by Kool DJ Herc and Grandmaster Flash...

Did you read my repsonse to the post that you quoted here? Just wondered...You seem to think that Children was his first track or something....I think Children was a excellent track but as soon as it got commercial is seemed like everybody that liket it before started to hate it and called it Cheesey....

I did read your response...robert miles has been producing music since 1990 in Italy and I noticed children in 1995 and I didn't like it at all cause I was pretty much into rave at that time. when it got commercial I didn't like either and I still consider his first album dreamland as cheese...

I did some more reading..."Deep In Techno" mentions Trance (as a genre of its own) for the time 91/92. Kind of began at TechnoClub Dorian Gray in Frankfurt, where DJ Dag would spin soft, melodic "techno" in the early hours of Sunday morning...tracks and labels mentioned are:
Zyon - No Fate; Format - Solid Session; Cosmic Baby - Stellar Supreme; Dance2Trance - Hello San Francisco; Arpeggiators - Freedom Of Expression; The Orb, Neutron 9000; Logig, MFS, Fax, EyeQ Records...

I don't think so...you could say "I like techno" and mean any electronic music, but the different subdivisions where already developed. There was a difference between Techno/Acid/Rave or trance..even back then. Maybe people weren't thinking about "uplifting" or "progressive" trance, but "hard-trance" was used back then.....just my .02$

Ok this is going to be a long post so I apologize in advance.

On the subject of BT, he was first signed to Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto label in 1995 at least 3 years after some of the works we sited earlier as "trance tracks". So he is in no way responsible for the beginning of trance. He is however, one of the key players in evolving the scene and bringing dance/trance music to a wide variety of people.

Wicked Neo, Kevin Saunderson who was the main person behind Inner City was one of the original Detroit techno pioneers, he recorded some of the hardest and most mechanistic techno to come out of the Detroit but routinely hit the mainstream dance charts as well with productions for his techno-pop act Inner City. His Inner City productions consisted of much slicker, house-inspired tracks underpinning the vocal workouts by Paris Grey and his wife Ann. I think just because "Good life" hit the Top Ten in the British Charts, doesn't necessarily make it a pop hit.

Here's and article I found in one of my old magazine on the subject were discussing, I don't agree with it 100% but I'm going to post it to aid the topic at hand.

What I'm really trying to accomplish with this thread is for us 'Trance addicts'as a whole, document the beginning and significant points to where trance began and where it is today. Once I have enough info I'm going to write an aritcle on the subject and submit it to SWAMPER to see if we can have it posted on the website, so people just joining or even addicts who have been here awhile can become better educated about the musical genre that brought us all together anyway, "TRANCE".

If im wrong here i apologize but did he realease his first album 5 years after he started producing...im 100 sure ive seen his album whith the x-files theme in a store and im quite sure that it wasnt released after dreamland and children.....i might be wrong.....

I think you're mixing up robert miles with dj dado...as far as I know robert miles never remixed x-files but dj dado made a dreamdance-ish remix in 1996 and dj dado released an album at the same time as robert miles did

heh...no RobertMiles didnt make a remix of X-files.....he made the original.....

i never thought children was commercial, i still dont
