"IMO Atmosphere is just a giant sampler"
And therein lies the common misconception about Atmosphere. If you consider the number of combinations available with the sample start offset paramater, the envelopes, filters, modulations, thousands of patch layers, the possiblilites are almost endless.
One might say, well, then you just have what is offered on most of the VAs out there?
Well, there is one main difference, most of these patches are analog. There is more warmth to an Atmoshere pad than on my Virus, JP and Ion combined. There is more thickness to the leads that my Virus in heavy unison mode by a long way.
I highly recommend it.
I've played around with Absynth 2, and in the period of time I spent with it, which was roughly equivalent to the time I've spent with Atmosphere thus far, I didn't even come close to the sort of sounds I'm getting out of Atmosphere.
Simply put, Atmosphere is a must have.
At the same time, of course there are things that Absynth can do that Atmoshpere can't, but for me at least, Atmo. has everything I need. If I have a warm pad sound in my mind, many times, like most of us, I have a hard time getting that sound out of my synth, same for when I want a glassy, transparent pad. With Atmo. there is a category called warm pads and one called glassy pads, within each category are about 30 patches, within each of these 30 patches there are 2 patches. I mean, really, one can imagine how many warm and how many glassy pads can be made with all of these options? Combine with that the envelope control, the modulation routings and other paramaters, and is basically like a synth.
But, like I said, if you want to create crazy evolving madness with complex breakpoint envelopes etc, then Absynth might be the way to go, but even still, Atmo. has the Evolving Textures section and the same patch scheme as described above. Again, thousands of possibilites with the advantage that the tones are analog in nature.
I think there was a reviewer for one of the major magazine that called Atmosphere "quite possibly the best synth ever." There is a very qualified individual over at futureprodcers.com that was once a die-hard proponent of analog synths and hardware in general, then he heard Atmosphere and Trilogy and changed his mind. Search for "It's only a matter of time" to find the thread, great read.

actually, i've just heard several of the patches for atmosphere and i must say i am amazed... the sound quality is superb...
don't get me wrong, i'm not saying atmosphere sucks, but for me, i just like playing around with all the knobs and tweaks of a synth to get a sound i want...
however, if i had the money, i'd definately get atmosphere
I read abt the Atmosphere. And saw the price was stated as $399. But, can I ask whether that is in which currency? US$399 or..???
Someone do give me the guides, thanks you very much .
Cheers
Guess this must be in dollars, since Spectrasonics is an American firm...
$399us is too much (not that it's not worth it). But Zzounds has it for $369: here
Ryan.
I picked it up for $340. Just go to GC and tell them that you won't pay full price and say you'll buy off Ebay if they don't give you a good price. This method will get you anywhere from $50 to $100 off the going price for a piece of software.
If you buy off Ebay, would that not void your sample license with Atmosphere (I think the sample licensing agreement is the same as with Spectrasonics' libraries)? Unless it is still sealed of course.
But still, makes me wish we had a GC here and not local shops that charge an arm and a leg just because they have very little competition.
Ryan.
I don't know about that, but most of the time the pro audio guy sells me software (that he knows very little about), so I just say random stuff like that, usually works.
Yeah, but if you say such and such store has it for this price, then they'll get on the web and check it. So my standard line at GC is, I saw it on Ebay for ______.
Hope you get a hold of Atmo. You'll be amazed.
What GC u guy mentioning about? sorry for my ignorant...
Tats a nice method. but still i will get in Singapore Currency of ard S$700. thats alot more. sighz
GC=Guitar center
Haha i work for GC.. funny line Etherium. Ill hook anyone up with cost, to hook up fellow trance addict brothers. btw heres a sample of me using atmosphere.

One of the demos has this in the explanatory text:
'This is a short but very dramatic demo of how rich Atmosphere can sound. All the textures are coming from Atmosphere, and the piece is augmented very nicely with Tob's own free (and world famous!) G-Town ambient percussion samples.'
Anyone know where to get these free samples? The sounds are really good....

Here is a turorial I found on electronic muscician
http://emusician.com/ar/emusic_beat...bliss/index.htm
It contains info on trilogy, atomospher, and stylus. The tutorial for atomospher begins at BLISS IN THE BOX
Here are the quick tips at the end of the article.
ATMOSPHERE QUICK TIPS
To apply filter sweeps manually, set the Filter Modulation control source to your mod wheel and increase the modulation depth. Then move the wheel. Also try reversing the polarity by clicking on the LED to invert the way the modulation is applied this works for Trilogy, too.
Because LFOs 1 and 2 are different for Layers A and B, and LFOs 3 and 4 are universal for the plug-in, keep one layer stable and one moving by using LFO 1 or 2. To create complementary motion, set a modulation source to LFO 3 and 4 for both layers, and then reverse the polarity for one of the layers.
Create gradual motion in pads by assigning LFOs as the source for Filter and Amp modulation. Use a depth between 10 and 20 and a rate around 4 Hz. You will also need to increase the Filter and Amp modulation depth.
To make chopperlike stuttering sounds, max out the LFO's rate and depth. Then choose that LFO as the source for amplitude or pan modulation. For softer blades, back off on the depth.
For smoother layer blending, assign Layers A and B to opposite filters. For instance, if you apply an HPF to Layer A, try using one of the lowpass filters (LP1, LP2, or LP3) on Layer B. Keep the resonance at about 9 o'clock, and then sweep the cutoff until you find the sweet spot. Increase resonance to taste.
The Key knob (filter-keyboard tracking amount) can help you brighten up darker or muted-sounding patches that are in the higher register of the keyboard.
Yes, I bought that issue just for that article. The article does give some good concrete examples, but the gist of it is that Atmo., Trilogy and Stylus are more than just sound modules, they are sample-based synthesizers that are capable of so much more than what you get out-of-the-box.
