i'd say ranting to a close friend would be much more beneficial and will have the same result, ESPECIALLY if that friend is willing to listen and maybe even give you advice... ranting makes you feel better because all those bottled up feelings... egh.

Haha, I gotta agree. Solve your own problems. Sure there are times you should talk to somebody to get advice & opinions...but that is what friends are for. If they can't help you, then they are not your friends.

go to one and find out. They base their advice on scientific studies and theories. That is the main difference between a shrink and your friend.

They are helpful if you are willing to be helped and open to new suggestions.
