It's a similar concept. Just like society's current craze for "anti-bacterial" everything... most people don't realise that a certain amount of bacteria is not only not bad for you, but ESSENTIAL for your survival! If we "BLEACH" everything around us, we aren't exposed to as much, which leaves us even more vulnerable.

As a nursing student, I know for a fact that one cannot catch the flu from a flu shot. When a person gets sick after recieveing the flu shot, it is actually due to the fact that the body is building antibodies, and as the immune system adjusts, it is normal to experience fever and nausea. This is not to say that I am all for the flu shot. I also think it's a load of crap, unfortunately I myself had to get one...or else I wouldn't be allowed to work at my clinical placement..BOOO!

Thanks for clearing that up! I thought I had heard that you could get it from the shot. Apparently I was mistaken!
Something else to keep in mind here is the DRUG COMPANIES. They put ENORMOUS pressure on everyone to go get a shot because the more shots the sell to the Government, the more money they make! And God knows it's hard to make a living as a drug company these days!
So surprise, surprise, in the end it comes down to the almighty BUCK!

You said it brother. I think I would rather be a cat, though, they know where it's at! Eat, Sleep, piss people off, and they don't take shit from anybody! Dogs are a little too mindless for me...
They say that money can't buy happiness, I'd like to test that theory!
Besides I don't want to BUY happiness, just rent some of it from time to time!

Do you really think that to gov wants to sell the flu shot to make medical companys happy? Are you sure that they wouldn't save more money by keeping people out of the hospital that might otherwise end up there with the flu? I have no idea what a hospital bed costs per night, but I'm sure the cost of that would far out weigh a hundred flu shots. Some of the theorys out there are straight out of a b movie x-files. For all those who are so "anit-vaccine": if you could go back in time would you not get measles or polio vaccines since you've "never been sick"?
I think it's a little extreme to compare influenza to polio or measles... Besides, it's the GPs who like to push the shot the most, and guess who is profiting from it? Tadaa! The GPs! I agree that the hospitals want to keep their beds free, and it costs them less when they aren't occupied, but it's a little naive to assume that MULTINATIONAL organizations and governments have YOUR best interests at heart! I'm not a paranoid by any stretch, but I have to wonder... why would I need to get a shot for an illness that I can't remember EVER having more than once every two years, at most!
Another quick point about Hospitals... don't kid yourself! I have witnessed FIRST hand, dealing with them on a daily basis, the mismanagement and TERRIBLE fiscal irresponsibility they are capable of. Honestly, I don't know how people get treated at all... It's nothing against the people who WORK in the hospital, it's the management... if they were run that way as private companies, they would ALL be out of business... I have seen how they pad the budget at year-end as well... if they have money left in the budget, they order all kinds of crap so that they won't get their funding cut the next year... it's awful, and a waste.
Sorry about that!... umm... /end rant... that's all...

| Originally posted by cap I am thinking about getting it. The things holding me back: - I rarely get the flu. Maybe at most once a year. - I heard there is a possibility of some nasty side effects in some people. Overall, I think it's worth it... but I'm too lazy to find/go to a place to do it..lol |
I don't like flu shots... I get the flu like once a year...i can deal with that. I did get a flu shot this year (under some pressure) for the first time ever, so we'll see what happens. If I get the flu even once, i'll never get a flu shot again!
One of my co-workers had the had the flu shot last year, and he got the flu TWICE!!!
J.
The flu shot doesn't cover ALL strains of the flu... that's the major problem!
so far so good for me...

ive never had the flu in my life...hell, id actually WANT to get it just to see what all the fuss is about
one word for u DETOX!!! starting tomm..i think all of u should do so to ,..we could have a ta group detox thing going
I'm in for the Group Detox. Sign me up. Heh.
Hit a gym, eat well, and chill out...much better way of fending off ALL illnesses
I'm against the flu shot as I've been reading that they keep increasing the strengh of the shot to overcome the increase strength of the virus. When will it stop. When will the virus become so strong that it can overpower the flu shot.
When you get it just deal with it. Stay in bed....sleep and drink lots and lots of water. You'll get over it in a few days
