Well

Ok first of all, i don't hate on hip-hop/rap, its just i don't like it( i like some old school hip hop like:Beasty Boys, Run-Dmc,KRS-1)

New school hip-hop? eh, maybe i didn't look for underground hip-hop, but i don't think i will. I rather listen to some Jazz, Classical.

Ok i don't say hip-hop sux,or bad.Is just not my thing

Yo Yo my homie, let's smoke a joint and shizzle to my nizzle. What up dog, you down n****, you a ho from the hood, fo shizzle bling bling!

That kind of rubbish that you hear on the radio really is a major turn off, more so than commercial trance, due to some of the images and ideals that it portrays.

Having said that, there are some decent (non commercial/bling bling) hip hop artists out there, just as there are alternatives to alice deejay and dj sammy.

Posted by Vivid Boy on Nov-29-2003 08:15:

the truth is u guys no nothing of the music and u base it on bullshit u hear on the radio..let me ask u a question..lets say ur ion a club not a trance party...what makes the crowd go nuts house/trance or when hip hop is thrown on??? yeah thats right the crowd goes wild when hip hop is thrown on and when u start whinding with a chick to hip hop (which in my opinion u cant with electronica) ull find out why i enjoy hip hop so much more in a club...its more of an interactive type of music..when iut comes to music / ta;lent no doubt electronica producers ae more talented..but let me ask u this when it comes to the masses do ppl look at talent or what gets them moving???

To say Hip hop should be respected is like saying its good to make women wear leashes and portray them as dogs to be walked, like Snoop dogg has so disgustingly done recently.

Hip hop was once a revolutionary and rebel like genre of music that expressed the plight of many people and the injustices of a white powered worls. However, as of late, it has basically gone down the toilet like the shit i excrete from my bowels everyday... and it belongs there.

Hip hop has objectified woman in the most disgusting way possible, romanticized promistcuity in an age where diseases like HIV and Aids are killing millions, materializes all aspects of life, and portrays, even promotes "thug" violence and "gang" life. And we must not forget how VAIN hip hop has become. Glorifying frivilous and useless spending on material wealth becuase it is "cool" to be rich.

Instead shoving this dogshit into the mouths of American youth, who are simultaneously poisoned by MTV and BET, true messages about life lessons, humane teachings, r even the expression of emotions that play signiifcant in our lives, should be taken into consideration.

It is everything and anything negative inmy eyes, a backwards way of expression that only hurts the image of Black people who have for so long tried to fight the stereotypes that have plagued their lives for centuries. Ironically, it is them who are the perpetrators of this "music culture".

Hip Hop is venom to the ear.

I like some hip-hop, but not all.
Tupac, Bizzy Bone, Bone Thugs n Harmony, DMX <--- they have good stuff.

I'm not interested in hearing about 24 inch rimz, hoes, bacardi, and weed. I like those rappers who actually incorporate life matters into their work.

Oh and Bubba Sparxxx has a good new cd out. Eminem is not too bad either at times.

Rap is one of those things that makes America look like a dumbass.

To me it seems the biggest problem and the biggest mistake people make is when hip-hop is defined. People such as Nelly and Eminem surely are not pure rap or r'n'b, rather they are 'hip-pop'.

It's like calling Avril Lavigne and Blink 182 punk when the real punk artists were people such as the Sex Pistols and the Dead Kennedys, people who didn't write and perform music to sell records, but rather people who were expressing opinions, mainly political opinions.

The same may be said for Eminem, however when he appears on every MTV music awards night etc. aimed at youth culture you start to question his motifs, particularly considering his main audience are teeny-bopping girls and insecure, self-doubting boys.

Therefore to dismiss hip-hop (I really can't stand the term as it seems like a term invented to bridge a gap between r'n'b and rap) you are not paying credit to artists such as Public Enemy and NWA. Public Enemy used music as a platform to express views like punk had done before them. So to group Public Enemy with Nelly is to do a great injustice to Public Enemy and hate for 'hip-pop' only clouds and distorts the talents of upcoming groups such as the Black Eyed Peas.

So don't be angry at 'hip-hop' and automatically group rap and r'n'b into the same category as 'hip-pop' because it only serves to confuse others through generalizing. This generalization I feel is what has led to the arguments on this forum and that people's ideas have been stereotyped by pop culture, namely your P. Diddys and Nellys.

yepppp. there's songs with good lyrics and songs with good beats(but shit lyrics..like CRAP..ie the mainstream stuff)
i mean i agree with vividboy about what it means to hear this stuff in a crowd...
and if they're making money.. well, they're making money. it has to be done. who are we to judge how someone else is choosing to do it?
if someone buys into it then that's their judgement.
just because you may not have the same tastes...

you wrote a nice piece there though, Cyrus King. even if i have a different perspective on hiphop. i still like to view 'real' rap and hiphop as a message.

code:
At times I feel like my back's against the wall And if y'all ain't with me, then it's me against y'all I stand my ground, that's what I was taught While others stand around, I hold it down like a fort In the midst of war, I find peace within Run, lock your doors, don't let the beast get in The mind is a terrible thing to waste I show love cause it's a terrible thing to hate Of course I want money, but I won't compromise Y'all don't realize, think I won't bomb you guys? With the truth nigga, stop misleadin the youth nigga Too many wakes and funerals, that's the proof nigga Our hood's in danger, kids need guidance You keep lyin, still the young keep dyin As I walk through the valley I fear none, yes I'm the chairman Here with my nigga Premier son And we came to change the game We represent the pain that's real talk, what's y'all claim to fame? Rappers simply tracin flows and chasin hoes Frontin mad hard, that shit's amazin yo Producers makin Tinkerbell beats for them to rhyme on Their ass if they get on the same stage that I'm on Our shit be rugged, like the New York streets Make the wrong move stupid then you lose your seat Cats be buyin up SoundScans to beef up sales Niggaz wanna crossover, wanna be upscale Fuck that, that ain't hip-hop, that's somethin else You're better off back on the ave doin somethin else All you suckers claimin that you are, thug or gangsta You disrespect the game by dry-snitchin you prankster I thank y'all for makin more room for us, uhh Ashes to dust you wonder who's to trust My sense of self, and my mental health is much more powerful, than any hint of wealth A lot of niggaz get cash, and collect Mercedes But neglect their ladies, and forget their babies Then the chicks turn and act like dudes Cause they reflect our light, so yo act right fool And this is just a piece of my mind, a thesis of mine I'ma make moves and I'ma leave you behind At times I feel like my back's against the wall And if y'all ain't with me, then it's me against y'all I stand my ground, that's what I was taught While others stand around, I hold it down like a fort In the midst of war, I find peace within Run, lock your doors, don't let the beast get in The mind is a terrible thing to waste I show love cause it's a terrible thing to hate
