Aria was packed at 10am for Acquaviva/Carter/Lawler.
800~1000 people were still on dancefloor at that time!!

It�s unfortunate this had to happen no matter what the circumstances were surrounding the death.
What is also unfortunate is how this will further affect the publics perception about after hours clubs, drug use and alike. This individual could have overdosed at home and no one would have thought twice about it, but because it was at a club peoples opinion will be much different.

This type of thing happening is never good for a scene. Events such as these bring unneeded attention by the media and authorities - who love nothing more than to sensationalize the story and demonize the electronic dance music scene as drug abusing zombies (it's 11pm and do you know where your kids are?).
The same thing happened a few years ago when that guy died at a rave (held in an underground parking garage). The end result = no more big raves in Toronto (and none on city property). Imagine if the one of the clubs in Toronto had something like this happen back then - the Fantino police state would probably have shut down the club too.
Lets hope the result of the investigation into this event doesn't impact Aria or any other of the clubs in Montreal. And most of all - lets hope it doesn't re-spark the debate into dance music/party drugs/etc (which may then trickle back into Toronto).
I am worried about the consequences of this. We all know that it's been a relatively quiet period for the scene in terms of negative press - and I'm sure the authorities are just waiting for an excuse to clamp down, raid parties and shut down events.
Lets keep our fingers crossed that it gets sorted out quickly and then the calm returns (with no repercussions for our hobby).
I believe Montreal has been going through some changes in the last six months with respect to the amount of negative attention the after-hours scene is getting. I recall there being a bill that was in development to shut down or restrict the after hours or something...perhaps someone from the Mtl forum could better explain what I'm talking about. I can't remember all of the details.
However, Aria has never come across to me as the main culprit of this sort of thing...like, Stereo was open until midnight on Sunday. That's almost 24 hours of partying. In the middle of a residential neighborhood. I can admit that after-hours partying in itself can be considered excess by outsiders, but to me, keeping a club open for almost 24 hours IS excessive, period.

it was morales' last party at stereo anyway, so i guess he wanted to go out with a bang!

yup there were all these rumours of it being his last night, and apparently it was made official during the party.
there is also a new afterhours opening in montreal called 'gravity'. it's angel moraes' club - this is the same guy that originally built the system at stereo. if the sound at stereo is any indication, this new place should be phenomenal!
looks like the montreal afterhours scene is pretty healthy at the moment.

I would definately like to see how this one folds out. As someone said before, that's a pretty lame news report. It's very vague, and open to way too much interpretation.
I know if I read that article and wasn't into the scene what I would read is:
Guy takes drugs because he's at a club, and clubs are only around for drugs. Guy flips out and crooked bouncers beat him to death. He died of an overdose AND of club security brutality
I just remembered that when Barbara and her crew arrived just before 4am, there was a giant camera crew following her,not just with a videocamera, but with professional equipment. They filmed her entrance through the club, unpacking her bags and the first little bit of her set. I asked Malek about it and he said they were from a french television station and GLOBAL NEWS. (wtf?)
Thank god they weren't still there when this shizzah went down....talk about awful, unnecessary press that would have been.
