Ah fuck dont tell me that!! i know for sure i wont be able to make that dinner, i'm going to be up in West Virginia for my friends wedding

The thing is..i dont know if i can make it all the way back to DC after the wedding (reception should end around 10pm) and be able to go to Glow.

Thats my debate right now.. i dont think i can just blow my friends wedding off a couple hours early to come see Ferry Corsten.

hmmmmm if only it was postponed a day or week early!

Then u got 50 Cent & Ja Rule beefing over some wack sh!t that nobody knows or cares about ! EDM is strictly about the music and not about girls and $$. Its about fun, dancing , and coming together.

Producers in the dance scene will encourage others as well as support their fellow DJs/Producer through their DJ sets, remixes, interviews, etc. and its all love. Thats what makes it sooo much better than the rest. Lets just hope the scene will evolve and be better than ever in the future !!!

No one has ever said it better. I was once an avid hip hop non-stopper myself. When I discovered EDM I felt as if I had been in ignorrance for so long as to the true sorrow of hip hop. The fact that EDM is so illusive adds to its significance. If it was played everywhere and all the time, it would not be as valuable to any of us or the people who hear it and "dig it". Maybe us TA's have something in our brains that desires individuality which only EDM lets us understand. With hip-hop the words are there, the lyrics are very worldy, and after a long night at a club playing strictly hip hop one leaves drained and of a shallower mindset than one would way of a 14 hour party at Space. Leaving a hot party at 7 o'clock in the morning just can not be done with repetitive themes of material things because isn't that what we strive to leave when we party. Trance, house, breaks all of the shit is an outlet to our minds, kind of like the Matrix. We are so in control yet we are not. I've left clubs many times SCREAMING from the incredible emotions I have still felt hours after the party was over. I've never seen a man shed a tear to hip-hop, now that my friends is true beauty.

Posted by BshidoHEAT on Dec-31-2003 16:36:

I agree with everyone for the most part. EDM should stay underground, we all see everyday what happened to hiphop/rap and/or punk/emo it turned into a fad, and now people turn it into an image other than making good music.

But hip-hop/rap can be just as emotional as EDM or trance. If a persons exposure to rap/hop is just 50 then they are just as blind a person who just listens to DJ Sammy.

Heck, first time I listened to Nas-One Mic I broke down. (And that was a pretty popular song back in 2000. So who knows, there still maybe some integrity left in popular rap/hop.)

Moral of the story.... every music genre has it's popular side and underground side. A person can't truely judge a genre just by listening to the popular side.

Dancing Dude

Well from what I been reading here so far is just so true to me. I use to be a thug leader and I always like rap music. But when my cousin introduce me to EDM in 1999 I was started getting hooked. Then around 2000 I heard of Buzz @ Nations starting noticing the scene. But then It was just to wierd for me so I stepped back from it, which I should have never done ,since I heard 2000 was one the hottest year for Buzz @ Nation Then around summer 2001 I started getting itno again. Then I notcie Glow @ Insomnia. Then 2002 and I got hooked so badly . I just couldn't stop seeing these DJ's (Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, and yeah George Acosta <--- I know but that was a while back) Then in Janrary 2003 my friends just ditch me for those wack hip hop clubs. I was so lucky in Febarary 22 that I met Vtec Junkie who came to see AVB @ Glow. Me, him, and Charlie where waiting in a longass line. But we started talking and I notcie they done there homework for the Scene. I am so glad I met Brian because he introduce me to so much stuff. I he made sign-up to this . I also met so many great people/TA's and we had some of The Most Kick-Ass time together in D.C. I really dont hear anything else ,shit right now I am lsitening to DJ Tiesto Set from Dance Department lol. Wel may The Scene stay underground and give us the special feeling

Thanks Vtec Junkie/Brian for Everything and the most Kick ASS Year for me

ok...I have sveral thoughts on this...

...first off: Rach, you have got to be one of the hottest chicks EVER. I mean, yeah, you are physically hot, but whenever I hear a girl talking about music with real passion I melt. Damn.

...as for the thread:
First off, calling 50 Cent a representation of hiphop is very much like calling DJ Sammy a good representation of Trance. Search for MCs like Pharoah Monch, Talib Kweli, Cage, Aesop Rock, Method Man...and don't just listen to the songs on the radio, cus if I just listened to that dance station in Miami I'd fucking hate EDM as well! Anyone who is truely interested in finding new and interesting types of music, hit me up...I've got some freestyles that(if you love music as much as you claim) will also give you chill bumps.

Other than that...I'd have to admit that Trance is the most emotion stirring music I've ever encountered. The first time I heard For An Angel I actually cried. I didn't know music could make you do that! When I saw PvD at Space last December I knew I'd found my music of choice. I saw an entire club arm in arm with complete strangers, swaying back and forth. I left that night completely overwraught with emotions. I loved that feeling! I've only had it a couple times since, twice at Trance shows elsewhere(Acosta and Edgar) and once at a Jungle show(Dylan/Tech Itch)...Sean Cusick almost got me there, but I think that was cus I was rrrrrrreally fucked up, lol.

I can't wait to get over to Germany where I won't have to listen to "It's so repetetive"..."It all sounds the same"..."Oh, yeah, I love Techno!"

I'm not sure if EDM is a higher state of music, but I definatly think it's on it's way! Sure, there is the "cheese"...but just cus a song has been played alot doesn't turn it into that. Heaven Scent is still my favorite Trance song...OMG...the first REAL Trance song I ever heard...

Also, I think this convo should apply to EDM as whole, not just House/Trance. Cus there is some Techno, electro, Jungle, that has made my heart almost explode. And to be honest, House has always been kinda like Trance with no emotion to me. Anyone in here like Jungle? AK1200 is gonna be at Torque on the 12th...

AK1200 is awesome, I have there Moonshine Over America CD, Drowning and Pornstar have to be the 2 greatest D'N'B songs over! As for George he's still King. As for Trance....
MAY IT LIVE FOREVER

I was thinking of the top 5 and worst 5 sets I saw in 03... AvB on Feb 22nd and Corsten in April had to be two of the worst shows I went to all year... Both in music and in crowd... In fact I left Corsten pretty piss'd off at both Glow and Corsten... i think i attribute my hatred to Glow on this night... the sort of last straw for me... to each there own though... Buzz is back and that was my home in 01... its not quite as good as back then but its more for me...

lol, first thanx for the compliment Bo Im really happy this thread got brought back yesterday by Bshido bc I was in the best mood when I wrote it a while ago, and it is my favorite and its from my heart 100%- i remember i had a million thoughts running through my head and I couldnt type fast enough I was getting so into it! Coulda kept going but.. haha lol.
Anyway, I was definitely not speaking in terms of just Trance and House. I was speaking about edm as a whole, I didn't clarify that I guess- just said Trance/House since most on here favor that. I loveeeeeeeeeee every form of edm; trance being my "genre" or whatever of choice.. but I also love Breaks, Jungle, D/B,chillout and I could go on.
It is very true that the music can evoke emotion and feeling from within, hence why I decided to post this initially. Its so amazing, a natural high unlike no other. All you do is listen.
No drugs or intentional effort. Its a beautiful thing.
I TOTALLY agree with you on Heaven Scent . That was one of the first songs I heard as well, and it is definitely one of my all time favorites, Just thinking of the way it sounds in my head gives me the chills ( have them right now )
I really enjoy reading everyone's individual responses to this thread and seeing your different viewpoints on the topic and related issues, because I know most if not all of you on here share the common passion and respect for the music and the scene

Love rach

A little clarification...
It was brought back by Jeskot7, it was because of her I was able to see this thread.

I love all sorts of music, as of late I've been listening to oldies, (ie: before 80's stuff) music back then was and still is great. Even if it's cheesy by today's standards, I still think it's great. Earth Wind and Fire - Always and Forever, is one of my faveorite oldies tracks. Hell EWF have a bunch of good tracks. Maybe I should take back all those disco CD's I bought my mom for Christmas when I was younger heh .

Also good non-edm but as emotional songs are
Nas-One Mic (rap)
Radiohead - Let Down (rock/alternative)
Taku Iwasaki - KO-TO-WA-RI and Snow Falling on Cedars (classical)
Saves The Day - This Is Not An Exit and Sell My Clothes I'm Off to Heaven (emo/punk)
Reggie and The Full Effect - Contragulations Matt and Christie [nice piano track too] and Relive the Magic Bring the Magic Home (emo/punk)
Oasis - Champagne Supernova (alternative/rock)
Dave Matthews Band - Crush or The Stone(alternative/rock)
Sublime - Santeria (alternative/rock)
Christopher John - The World Has Turned and Left Me Here [A Tribute to Weezer] (emo/rock/alternative?)
Ghost Face Killah - All That I Got Is You (rap)
Any Earth Wind and Fire songs.

For the most part these are my faveorite non-edm songs, I got some weird taste I know heh... but I LOVE MUSIC

yah rach, when i stumbled across this thread i just had to put my input into the poetry of EDM. I know we've talked about it before through private messages how we're both girls who are soo passionate about this shit it determines almost everything we do. i love when someone can capture in languid terms what music means to them. get this i've already cried over ultra 6 about 3 times while listening to marco v's i feel you, lol. Along with that my blue Oakenfold shirt is on the way. I am so ready to let everything out. music lets all the emotions out, it lets me say the words i've never said to anyone, and leaves me satisfied as no one could
