| Originally posted by DJ_Shockwav ok, i haven't really been into this whole headphone debate... but i have a question, plain and simple gluegun: i'm looking for a pair of DJ headphones, relatively cheap (like $100 canadian) that have a good bass response, and are not too shabby in the mids and highs (these are not my main priority, i just need to hear the bass right now)... these will be used primarily for DJing... keep in mind, that i woun't be ordering from the internet, just walking into a store and picking them up |
Yea, DJ_Shockwav, like I said, for utilitarian DJ features, you gotta pay a WAAAAAAYY bloated amount of money for what you get.... I'm talking like, 500, 600% more than an audiophile set of cans that sounds the same, but without all of the trance-dj-specific features would need....
i just need something cheap to last me till i can afford something better
right now i'm just using the sony mdr-cd555
cheap, but i need somethign with better bass response
DJ_Shockwav,
if you can sacrafice these features:
a headband where the speakers swivel all the way around
lots of sound attenuation
You can get the Koss UR-20's for $25.
Other than that, for all of those features I mentioned at the top, you're probably have to pay $120+ US.
there we go...
thanks for the info
i just need something decent right now, that'll get the job done
noting fancy with all kinds of features, that'll have to wait
hey guys..
i was wondering.. are any of these HP's good or bad or ok? rate them 1,2,3 if u can too
*Technics RP-HT300
*Panasonic RP-HT710
*Panasonic RP-HT355
thanks and comments would be very appreciated!
Guys i bought this pair of headphones for 58$ (canadian)
What do u think of them ?

Well, seeing as how we don't know the model number, I can't tell you what I think of em, can I?
Darchinova, good, bad, or okay FOR WHAT PURPOSE?
It's the MDR-CD280
Oh, god, you got a set of CD280's to LISTEN TO MUSIC WITH?!?! ON AN MP3 PLAYER?!?!
I hope, for your sake, that you return them as quickly as possible...yes, they DO SUCK THAT BADLY! I'd pay $3 for 'em...
Okay. A few questions here...
Do you want headphones that block out sound?
Do you mind big headphones that go over the ear?
Do you mind headphones that clip on the ear?
Do you mind earphones that go in the ear?
Do you mind headphones that leak a lot of sound?
Can you stretch your budget to $70 US?
Oh, and DJ Darchinova, those headphones all suck. What sort of headphones are you looking for, for what purpose, with what budget, and what will you be plugging them into?
Why headphone to block out sound ?
i like big headphones
what does it mean to clip ?
what does it mean that leak a lof of sound
and no i can't stretch my budget to 70@ US
Do you want headphones that block out sound from the outside, in other words, do you mind hearing people talking and outside noises when you listen to headphones, or do you need something that blocks out outside noise. If you do not mind headphones that do not block outside noise, you have more options for getting good headphones in your budget.
Do you need big headphones, because many smaller headphones sound better... ESPECIALLY in your price range!
It means to clip over your ears, like the Sony w.ears. On those, there is no headband, but the headphones actually clip over your ears, similar to the ends of a pair of glasses. If you do not mind this design of headphone, you have more options for getting good sound.
Leaking sound means that other people can hear what you are hearing--the headphones "leak" sound through the back. If you do not mind headphones that do this, you have more options in your price range.
ALSO! Do you mind earphones that go into the ear or not?
Oh, I forgot to ask, do you want exaggerated bass?
Oh, and DJ darchinova, if you want my advice, could you answer the questions I posed to fastdjmp3 and the ones I posed to you as well?
Ok i want headphnoes that block out sound , i want them big , not clip over my ears , and not leakign sound (i don't want the other to hear my music) ... the sony mdrcd280 have all these features ?
No, they don't! they don't block out sound, and they leak sound, and they sound REALLY bad!
Okay, in your budget, you will have to either sacrafice "I want them big" to have them block out sound and not leak sound...OR, you can sacrafice "i want them to block out sound" to have them big and not leak sound, OR, you can go over budget, and get big headphones that block out sound and don't leak sound. It is a given that my options are quality headphones; you could find something that sound REALLY bad and has the features you want, but I won't help you find a set of headphones that sounds BAD. Choose...
ok let me explain to you why i ordered them
my brother has the mdrcd180 , i love those headphones , i always use them without the permission of my brother . When i searched online for headphones , i found the mdrcd280 and i told myself : they are probably better than my bro's headphones , so that's why i ordered them
FASTDJMP3, I had briefly heard the Sony MDR-CD280's, and all I can say is that in the under-$60CAN price range, in most cases, BIGGER IS NOT BETTER! The CD280's cost $30US (or $58CND), but performs NO BETTER than the stock headphones that come bundled with personal stereos. Well fuck, the 30mm drivers that the CD280's use are EXACTLY the same diameter as the drivers in the average set of muff-type bundled personal-stereo headphones - NO SURPRISE THERE!!
That's nice, I don't care why you ordered them; return them; they suck....it doesn't make them good headphones! 99.5% of Sony Headphones suck.....the only good headphones in the CD series are the MDR-CD1700, and the 3000, and the 1700 is discontinued, and difficult to drive, and the MDR-CD3000 is $400 USD. Now, will you PLEASE answer my questions? The ones I've posted in the last three replies to you? Oh, and, by the way, as far as quality headphones go, it is VERY easy to think crappy headphones sound good, until you hear good sounding headphones (with the bass boost and all equalization off, of course, and driven through enough power to make them happy [oh, by the way, I won't reccomend anything that your mp3 player can't drive well, but i CAN'T reccommend ANYTHING until you answer my questions!])...
Oh, by the way, bigger is NOT better in headphones! WHY do you want big headphones? Also, for your budget, if you want decent sound, YOU WILL HAVE TO LOOSEN YOUR CRITERIA!!

well let me try them first , and if i don't like them i can return them , it's not a prob , and as i told u , i just want something a little bit better than MDR-CD180 , that's why i took MDR-CD280
If anything, the MDR-CD180 is one of the very worst headphones--open or closed--that you can buy at any price range! Muddy bass, sucky mids, honky screechy highs... blech.
Ok they cost me 58 bucks canadian
if i return them what should i get ?
and please don't ask me my preferences , just tell me what can i get for the same price , thanks

Hey buddy u seem to have a big knowledge in headphones , do u work for Koss ?
Nope -- but I've actually heard almost all of the current Sony models, and own (or have owned) some of them. The only one that I haven't yet heard (in Sony's current U.S. model lineup) is the very pricey MDR-CD3000, and I don't want to spend $400US on something that may not sound better than other brands' $150-$200US headphones.
