His stateside/presents sets are consistantly good, and his productions are gettin better. His next artist album will turn everyone's heads and then everyone will like him again. Ignorant logic the majority has really.

It's so stupid how people stop liking DJ's, and then all of a sudden like them again. Its like they're all about jumping on the bandwagon. Its FAKE. Oakey has been ahead of the music scene by at least 2 years. Oh yeah, I said that.

amen bro!
paul o. presents anotherworld!! oowns all other compilations!
class act!

Posted by goose_wh on Dec-20-2003 00:18:

heard a recent set on radio 1 (the mainstream pop radio station in the UK) and it was pretty good:

Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun
Solar Stone - Release
Outkast - Ghetto Musick (Benny Benassi Remix)
Underworld - Born Slippy (Paul Oakenfold Remix)
Paul Oakenfold - Hypnotised

Not bad for a show that was going out at 1930 on a weekday evening.

Anyway i have a few of his CD's and i think there are few that would argue against Another World being the best trance compilation to date.
His recent Great Wall CD was fantastic also and my favourite compilation CD of 2003 with loads of different decent tracks.

His style doesnt really make him comparable to Armin etc. who lay down anthem after anthem, whereas he will play some handpicked slices of aceness e.g John B - Electrofreek, Rennie Pilgrem - Zero/ Emit. I think it shows his record purchasing sprees are a little more diverse than Armin (for instance) who will happily play the latest Above & Beyond remix after remix.

He isnt in the spotlight as much these days either due to his absence from European shores which looks set to continue as he persists with the U.S.

Though in the interview he did before the show he sounded like a right royal caner.

all my own opinion o course

Oakey forever

I don't really like Oakenfold his sets and whatnot have a few good songs but then the rest is like crap...IMO

Anyone here into his "Voyage into Trance" cd? I absolutely loved that cd so much, that and his gold and silver goa mixes. Also that Oslo GU cd i thought had some great drum and bass type stuff in it. How bigheaded is he? i knew he was a little full of himself but i was surprised by some of the posts, is he real bad? I duno i can't stand listening to people who think their the best of the best of the best, that would really bother me if he was like that.

Hahaha.....it's Oakey all the way for me.....HELL YEAH!

Posted by Stanza on Dec-21-2003 01:53:

Oakey still rules even though I haven't heard any of his most recent stuff and that there's is so much hate in the air for him.

I heard one his sets from Ibiza this year and it was absolute rubbish. One terrible track after another.

But I still love him cos..
He's is THE MAN for progressive trance. Great Wall was a damn good mix cd. I think that Oakey has made quite a comeback in the second half of the year..

Posted by spacechica on Dec-21-2003 07:40:

Oakenfold is still one of the greats, simply because he played a major role in developing the electronic music scene. He introduced Tranceport and GU02, and brought us brilliant sets with some of the most passionate, euphoric otherworldy journeys known to experience. Plus, after all these years in the music industry, he's still got it together and remains true to his love for the music. Cheers, Oakey

Oakie should do more sets like his Essential mix @ Cream, Amnesia (10-08-2003) or his set @ Paradiso Amsterdam (22-08-2003). These two sets are amazing for me!

Posted by Turbotrance on Dec-21-2003 15:51:

Oakenfold always has and always will my Nr 1.

He is a Legend

I have seen him live 6 times. Amazing!

Trance Music would never be the force it is today without him

I love Oakeys sets.
My favourite ones are:

-Paul Oakenfold - Live From Home @ Space In Ibiza
-Paul Oakenfold - Live in Havana Cuba - 02.21.99

They are so incredible good...

Hmm, I listened to his EM and would rate it 1/10. He trainwrecked through a bunch of anthems (Dirty Sticky Floors, Satisfaction, Southern Sun, Love is Gonna Save Us, Clocks, Resurrection). People who complain about Tiesto's mixing should see how he mixed in Dirty Sticky Floors...

I try to presereve my respect for Oakenfold based on his past achievements, but it is getting increasingly harder.

Oakey = avant-garde

that's why there's such a love/hate deal going on.

anyone know where he's playing new yr's eve?

ps: yeah i dont like this bandwagon mentality crap-one day tiesto's the fav and the next day he's public enemy... bullspit
tranceport represents all that is wrong with trance. That's being a glorified jukebox, not a dj...

Recently he regained the #1 spot on my top 30 DJs List, like he always been for me, up until Bunkkha, LOL Now that Paul Van Dyk is becoming more mainstreamish/poppish, he had to slip to #2

Paul Oakenfold, up until 2001 in particular, had always been one of the best DJs in the world, and was one of the two DJs (with Paul Van Dyk) that got me into trance. His older CDs / livesets (pre 2002) are AWESOME, every single one of them. Lately he's been OK, but classic Oakey (1986-2001) is magnificent!

There is nothing "avant-garde" about oakenfold anymore, maybe 10 years ago..

There is like 18 tracks and it's just end-to-end anthems, nothing interesting about the set at all. Very mechanical and boring.. the parts are greater than the sum basically... The beginning of the end ...
