hm actually you never ever want to stack records on top of eachother. you always want to store them vertically and at a 90 degree angle.

however the book idea (lots of weight on the books) doesn't do much for me. it's done a tiny tiny bit , and so has stuffing the warped record tightly in between the other records in the crate. probably heat is the best .

ive heard of wierd ways to get vinyls back in shape.

One is to put the record in the oven for a short time and then place it on your flat kitchen top and put the platter of your turntable on top of it. You have to remove your turntable platter first and bring it to the kitchen. The trick is determining how long to put it in the oven and how long.

ooh, this reminds me of my toaster oven record straightener idea.....I need to make a note to head to the thrift shops....

good job on straightening those records out. seems like I get more and more that are wacked out of shape. hopefully we can get a solid fool proof easy non-expensive do-it-yourself fun to do method of straightening records.

oh.. uh oh. i didnt' know your not supposed to stack vinyls on top of each other. i've been doing that with my vinyls for about 2 weeks now (just started spinning) cuz i dont have a crate. does it do a lot of damage? i have about 35 vinyls stacked flat

yes stacking warps them.
as i said you want to have them upright in a 90 degree angle. steal a milkcrate from some corner store and do the right thing.

i place my warped records under about 25+ other pieces of vinyl (pieces of shit that will never get played again ..) + some additional weight.. the ones on the bottom are able to cue after a month or so of sitting..

Though ive never tried to play the ones, i've used to stack. Maybe i should check those out

the two pieces of glass + hair drier is another good trick. that way you can regulate the tempature, unlike an oven(unless of course you get inside the oven with the vinyl and watch it)

if you dont want to spend $2000:
my buddy took two 12x12" sheets of glass, put 4 clamps in the middle of each side of glass (above the vinyl) with felt between the clamp & glass, and took a hairdrier to it, he heated evenly on each side, and then put about 100lbs of weight on top of it as it cooled.

worked like a charm.

could I just heat directly onto the record and then place it between the glass sandwich? my glass peices are very very large and clumsy.

that is a great frickin idea.

I bought a warped copy of involver from my local record store
I tried putting it under a shitload of heavy books, my guitar amp, etc etc for like a week but it never straightened itself out.

My method is by having a wooden board under my mattress, I place the warped records under my bed, inbetween the mattress and the board and leave them there for about 2-3 weeks...after that, they are much better.
