i like the time off from work and seeing my family but it almost isnt worth it when my mom is so stressed that she constantly yells at everyone. i have come to dread christmas every year because of that.

man we got a buncha christmas haters here

i don't love it by any means, but i defiantely do like it
and mostly just for the week or two after the holiday season. i try my best to be happy and cheerful every day, so the holiday season is the time where almost everyone else returns the favor
also something about the year ending and having nothing else needing to be done until the next year
just like sit back, think about the fact that you have nothing to stress about until next year, put on some chicane or something, and just enjoy life for a minute

and sure some christmas carols are annoying, but there are some feking good songs also
trans-siberian orchestra does some really good stuff
good songs: carol of the bells, god rest ye merry gentlemen, greensleves (not really christmas but gets some play), o holy night, silent night

just enjoy life for a bit, i know its weird nowadays, but its something everyone should try

by reading the comments of most of you, YOU people are actually the ones to blame for why Christmas lost its spirit.

Posted by davinox on Dec-24-2003 22:41:

like any holiday, like any day, christmas is only as fun as you make it.

Unfortunately you don't see it for the pile of capitalist bullshit propaganda that it is.. "BUY GIFTS, LOTS OF THEM!"...

Posted by N|te-L|fe on Dec-24-2003 23:32:

come on dont be so sad, it's true, you create your own spirit... I must agree with the commercial aspect of the holiday that sucks tough..

Just enjoy it, mine totally blows this year cause I have to work.. urk

i'm not dumb, i do see it. I just try to avoid commercialism or keep it at minimum. Don't go to a mall when YOU KNOW everyone is there at the last minute. Buy gifts 4 months earlier, don't buy a gift to everyone and tell everyone you don't want a gift while being extremely polite and nice. Turn off the radio and tv to avoid the jingles and lame songs/ads, etc etc...

one can do alot to stay unconnected to the "craziness" and at the same time be closer to family and friends.

It's kind of hard to avoid all that shit. You would have to lock yourself away for like 2 months just to "avoid it". Sorry, i'm not trying to be sarcastic, just being realistic

maybe i'm not aware of its amplitude because i barely watch tv, listen to radio, and going to the mall is last thing on my TO-DO list

The only time i feel annoyed is when i shop and hear the same christmas tune in a matter of 20 mins

but i try not to get worked over it.

Posted by Miss Julia on Dec-25-2003 06:33:

I work in the mall... so i can't avoid it . I'm just glad tommorow is the last fucking day of all this madness

Man, I hear ya. I really couldn't be arsed to even get out of bed this morning. If I had my way, i'd still be there. Only after about 6 text messages and three phone calls from mates wishing me a merry christmas did I finally drag myself out of bed!! I might go for a nap...

WoW full of haters in here. Well, Im sorry for all the stress and bad things that christmas brings to all of you.. from my poing of view, christmas has been, and is the only time of the holiday that I can remember the best memories of my life. Its the time that I can actually think of how much I love my family, and spend that precious time with them. I have the best childhood memories from this holidays, and no, its not because of santa or the gifts.. is because of the quality time spent with all the family. Now im far away from all the family, and its no longer the same.. but the best memories remain. After reading all the posts, Im actually more thankfull for. And yes, Christmas is a commercial holiday, but a time for giving and get together.. its all within your family, and how they see it.

I'm not sure if it's really that simple. I mean, I'll drive around in Kingston and they'll have all these stupid red and green lamp posts put up (and really, you have to wonder at the kind of poor planning that goes into putting up red and green lampposts in the middle of traffic).

Even on TA, you have to stare at a Santa hat in the corner, and read a whole bunch of threads about what people got for Christmas. It's pervasive, because even though the hype is only on TV or radio or in malls, you constantly have to deal with people who have given into the hype (unless you only have friends who share your opinion on it).

Not that it bothers me when people wish me a merry Christmas (despite the fact that we don't celebrate it)... just bothers me having to deal with flashing lights everywhere and people talking about what they bought or received. It probably doesn't help matters that I'm never on the receiving end of such gifts because my family doesn't observe the holiday, but then again, I'm thankful for not having to burn a hole in my wallet every year in order to return the "spirit."

It also irritates me that people refer to it as "xmas" - again, I'm not Christian, but the "x" really has very little to do with "Christ", it's just another form of ever-present laziness that helps to remove all real religious meaning from the holiday.
