Er... no, not reeeally!

Punishment does deter some people, but what good would haveing police with guns do? (Arming the police is not for deterence btw)

The USA allows anyone over 18 i think to buy a gun, many times u can get one on the huge black market, so u dont have to register or buy a permit. Even though police officers have guns, that doesnt stop anyone here of using a gun. there are at least hundreds of incidents a day in the USA, where a gun is used by a criminal.

Guns are not banned here because there is in the constitution, the right to own a firearm. but this was in the revolutionary war, when militias of common people were the fighters of the british, therefore they needed guns. now, no one needs a gun. only hunters, police officers and military.

I think it is absurd not to have armed law enforement officers.

they dont need to be armed, they wield authority & the power of intimidation. It's called the law people.

Guns are not the problem in the US. The police lack intimidation power to truly enforce the law, there are too many whiny forces in this country complaining about the police, that it has crippled the ability of police to enforce the law.

Their are other factors as well, such as insincere politicians preaching the gospel of fighting crime. But then, they are just using crime as a tool to control the masses and get votes.

You can take any picture of an english officer with a gun and take it out of context. Were they on patrol with those weapons? i highly doubt it. More like putting them on display.

Yes and no - while the average police officer hasnt got that kind of weaponry, the police at ports have carried those sub-machine guns for as long as I can remember.

By this token punishing a criminal to deter crime should not work either, as punished criminals are no where near these public crimes

Punishing a criminal will never work, for crime is a result of the society we live in.
