Hopefully, i'll have quit smoking by the time the law comes into effect, so i guess it'll help me fight the urges when i go clubbing.
Now that i think about it though, a smoke free environment, no one smoking anything...makes it a lot difficult to spark up a spliff...oh wait, that's still illegal as well, right ?
Posted by mute79 on Dec-29-2003 18:28:
hmmm, to quit now, or not to quit (until the end of next summer)...

Why not? Last time i checked weed wasn't laced with Ammonia, Arsenic, turpentine, Lead, etc.

smoking a joint is like smoking 5 cigarettes at once. My own doctor told me that. Smoke is smoke.

Smitty, thousands of people die every year from cigarettes, how many die from marijuana?
I'm not saying that second hand marijuana smoke is not harmful, but show us some stats if you're going to make a statement like that.

In terms of pure tar, yes, joints have over 5 times as much of that shit. Not true for the other chemicals that che was talking about though, and the second-hand smoke is not nearly as disgusting (smells worse, but not as dangerous).
Let's also keep in mind that the average cigarette smoker smokes over 10 times as many cigarettes as the average pot smoker, which should more than offset the "5 at once" factor. Pot smokers are casual, couple of times a month, maybe even a couple of times a week or even once a day, not a "pack a day", which is pretty average for cig smokers.
In a club, I smell the occasional weed smoke for a few minutes at a time - that's nothing compared to watching the guy in front of me just stand there doing nothing but smoke pack after pack of cigarettes.

well put aaron. i too have heard that marijuana smoking is 5 times as bad for you as cigarette smoking, but from a cop that came to talk to us back in 'high'school.
but it's right, i smoke both, and if i smoked a pack of marijuana cigarettes a day, it would be impossible to swallow because it would just kill my throat.
but cmon, like that would ever happen, people going to a pack a day of joints..
we'd be so fucked up, tired, & lazy to smoke anymore. we woudl all just pass out and sleep
or watch movies, eat sliced cheese, drink iced tea and chill out....
WHOA!! ok, i'm with the 'let's keep smoking in clubs' crew again!!!
jk

thank you for making this claim...people just dont get it when they hear that weed "is 5 times worse for you". you have to be a heavy pot smoker for this stat to mean anything to you. meaning a few times a day. i do know a few people with gumed up lungs cause of pot, but they smoke A LOT!!!

I'm sort of joking, but regardless, it's not really hypocritical...as mentioned, cigarettes and cigarette smoke are far more harmful than marijuana. Sure, there is significantly more tar in pot...which is bad...but tar is the least of your problems compared to the other stuff that is in cigarettes. Pot isn't processed the way tobacco is and thus doesn't contain all the "extras" that are found in cigarettes. Pot is not physically addictive either.
How many people smoke cigarettes at a club vs. the people smoking pot? I'd say smokers outnumber the pot smokers by *at least* 25 to 1. That's probably super conservative too. I'm sure part of that is the legal factor, but that's not the point...the point is that people that don't smoke at all are much more greatly affected by cig smoke than pot smoke at a club, simply by the shear # of people that smoke.
btw...that cigarette filter doesn't do anything for what is burning off the end of your cigarette either...and if you think it does a "good job" of filter out the crap that's in there...um...you're dreaming
I will never argue that smoking pot is "healthy"...but it's a simple fact that cigarettes and cigarette smoke are *far* more harmful than their marijuana counterparts.

That's the scariest part.
You know something's wrong when we have to start taking up smoking to stay healthy.

I know many people who smoke 3-4 houlies a day (my own brother included). He hates smoking, but can't live without weed. But I really don't understand how some of you guys could potentially be pro-marijauna in clubs but anti-cigarettes in clubs. If weed smokers can have a joint in a club, then fuck...I should be able to smoke a cigarette! It's total hyprocrisy to support one and not the other.
And as I said before, let's not forget the filter on cigarettes. They do a lot more than you think...they're not just on there for show.
Anyway...all I'm arguing here is that NO SMOKING means NO SMOKING and that includes all forms of smoke, including marijauna. If I can't smoke inside a club, then a pot head can't either. Fair is fair.

Pot smoking is already disallowed in clubs.
So by your logic, if people can't smoke pot in clubs, they shouldn't be able to smoke cigarettes either, correct?

oi...WHEN marijauna become officially legal (it's only a matter of when), then it shouldn't be allowed in clubs. Some people want cigarettes banned in clubs, but still want to smoke pot and that's a no no in my books. I actually don't care if people smoke weed, but no smoking means no smoking.

Why don't you read what others write?
We aleady established that there is no filter on the lit end. So this statement is faulty. The filter may be doing something for you but not for the one that is not smoking.

Ok since when the smoke you exhale gets filtered ? do I need to comment more?
