and the reason none of those DJs mentioned ever played the Green Court remix is because it completley DOES NOT FIT into Armin or Markus's styles...it is cheesy hardtrance...I heard Johan Gielen play it once, there, it fits his lousy cheese style

First off Johan is a good producer. He may have his moments of cheesy-ness, but everyone does.
Trance is starting to turn into pop. People only look at the big names...tiesto, armin, ferry, etc. Ya they may be good, but there's the "under-dogs" that most of the time, make much better productions than all of them, but people never take the time to listen to them, only to the big names. Don't be so close-minded...

Your point is valid but your example isn't since Gielen is more commercial than the names you listed and his production/DJing is more simplistic. While I do like some of his work he's hardly one of the "underdogs" of the trance scene.

trust me buddy, I like plenty of underground stuff...I barely even listen to trance anymore

your comment about hardstyle is just as ignorant as anything else. So you don't like it, that's fine, but to call it shit just because you don't like it makes you look like an arrogant jackass, I don't like most prog, but if I called the people who made it shit, i'd be lynched, respect a genre if you don't like it at least

the japanese sound

What you guys are all failing to realize is that the Japanese sound is basically cheesy. This is completely an avex thing.

1) Listen to System F - Together
2) Listen to the Cyber Trance compilations
3) Realize that System F, Yoji, Johan, etc. are popular in Japan and sell. Tiesto, Armin, PVD, etc. dont sell at all.
4) Avex is the most commercial label in Japan. Most major eurotrance DJs are signed to avex.

Add those 4 up and you have the Yoji Ligaya remix. I club in Osaka and Miami exclusively, so basically I have seen everyone (and met most of) the guys you are all bitching about on here. The Yoji, Johan, System F-kinda (I refer to System F and Ferry seperately because of Right of Way. System F is what Avex wants to refer to him as, so System F is like Japanese Ferry to me) stuff does well over there because they really like synthy cheese vocal trance. Part of it has to do with dancing off beat (i.e. to melodies. Ferry has made comments about this online), part of it has to do with avex exerting pressure on artists signed to them to produce commercial dance music, and part of it has to do with the Japanese club scene (commercial superclubs (velfarre, code)) and the way club culture exists there. Anthems rule dance floors in Japan, and they want them lined up like a top 40 dance hits. A well put together set also gets respected, but Ferry or Johan is a concert to them. If they don't play Out of the Blue or Beauty of Silence, the Japanese audience will feel cheated. Trance is a commercial enterprise in Japan. If you shop at Shibuya 109 in Tokyo or HEP 5 in Osaka, every single store is blaring synth-trance as loud as possible. It is background music for TV shows (See: Ainori).

Complaining about cheese in Japan or coming out of Japan isnt the point. That is what the Japanese market wants and enjoys. There tends to be a certain amount of snobbiness from Western dance music fans towards cheese, but there is no such pretention in Japan. Trance is pop music to the Japanese.

Don't respect Hard Style... but go to Yoji's website and check out the Ultra pictures from Osaka mother hall. He does those upto 1 per month (usually 1 per quarter) and sells out at around 30-40 dollars a person. Velfarre is packed with eurotrance fans every week at 30 dollars a person. The Japanese don't care if you dislike "Yoji-chan", or hard style, or cheesey Johan Gielen stuff, because they do.

For the record: I like both the cheese, hard style, and Armin/Markus. I don't buy into the pretentious dance music fan bullshit.
