I have this feeling that everything you find "boring" you label it as prog...without ever exploring the actual 'progressive' house and trance genre.

Thats the impression I'm getting.

Like ive said before... ive explored it well enough....by seeing prog dj's, downloading the "best prog" sets... and cd's like Nubreed, and GU or whatever those are called...

It is BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINGGGGGGG

Ive given it way too many chances...i just dont feel the same uplifting energetic emotion i get when i listen to a trance set...

Trance is complex, passionate, it has depth and beauty....

Prog is the basic form of that... taking a beat and some rifts... and thats it...

Techno is the same thing, tomeits a bunch of noise but at least its harder.

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-12-2004 00:33:

there is a diff tho cuz I saw satoshi tomiie and it was one of the most boring 3 hrs of my life but people next to me thought it was the greatest 3 hrs of their lives (tho lawler tore it up afterwards tho) but I guess it's to each his own. I mean that tiesto set in dec 2002, I wrote on ivibes (changed my words the bastards)..that it was horrid..gave it 1 out of 10 but people posted that it was the greatest set ever...so...to each his or her own.

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-12-2004 00:35:

Nubreed 4 cd 2 was more trancy prog in some parts tho...then again nubreed 5 was breaks and house.....so.....i don't think you can label anything as just one genre....cuz every damn cd these days is a mix of stuff.

lol...sure it is.

"Prog" has melody. Except its more subtle; thus there's more emphasis on everything else in the song to work together. Trance without a melody is nothing.

"Prog" without a melody can still be a really good rhythmic beat that can be used for a good lead-in track for something else.

Charlie May is one example of a "prog" producer thats is FAR from being basic.

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-12-2004 00:41:

But producers are making stuff that stradles the fucking fence and you wonder what genre it is.

Take 'er easy dude, it was just a joke. I'm not in the habit of bashing DJs, but it's entertaining to see how people freak out when someone disses the Tijsmeister.

Tiestosuxprogsuckspvdsucksfuckdigweedkthxbye.

it's more 'in' to bash him than it is to like him.

I was there, and it WAS a great set. Mind you, I was totally off my rocker and tranced in my pants 10 times over when he played Silence and "hide u vs flight 643." Ahhhh, so long ago...so much loooooove for the trance back then.

I also met my boyfriend that night, in line outside.

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-12-2004 02:20:

and you still dating the dude about almost 2.5 yrs later?

my gosh...

We live together (quite happily, might I add)

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-12-2004 02:29:

fate strikes....that night was one that I will always remember

not the hide u vs. flight 643 (known as hidden flight - windsider)

but for futhermost....wait a sec....some dude gave me the tracklist but it was wrong in some parts by a mile but the first 15 looked like this.

1.)Hooligan- Hear You Now (Grand Chillas Mix)
2.)Cass & Slide- Glad I Ate Her
3.)Iio - Rapture (Riva Mix) <------TTA DROPPED DEAD AROUND THIS TIME and REALIZED WHAT A NIGHT THIS WOULD BE!
4.)Junkie XL with little help from Tiesto - Obsession
5.)Solicitous- Furthermost
6.)Salt Tank- Eugina (Michael Woods Remix)
7.)Flash- Day After
8.)Insigma- Open Our Eyes
9.)ID****************************(dont you cry.....)
10.)Chiller Twist- Strings Ultd.
11.)King of Clubs- Revelation(Airwave Remix)
12.)Utah Saints- Lost Vagueness (Oliver Lieb's Main Mix 2)
13.)Windsider- Hidden Flight
14.)Tiesto- Flight 643
15.)Katana- Fancy Fair
16.)David Forbes- Questions (Kayestone's Recon Mix) PITCHED TO HELL
17.)Pulser- Cloudwalking (Astral Mix)

Posted by Skipper on Jan-12-2004 03:52:

^^ So many memories. I only knew a few of those tracks at the time, but later when I heard the essential mix they all came back to me.

His essential mix from around that time is also pretty sweet. I still pop it in the player from time to time.

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-12-2004 03:55:

replied to the pm btw

some dude had a recording but it was shit...so I never obtained it and it was wrong in certain aspects but cloudwalking....he turned it down then back again during the main riff....so heavenly.

I didn't realize it was "in" to either like him or bash him, I thought it was a matter of personal preference? There are those of us who can decide what we like without having other people tell us.

Posted by Rocco on Jan-12-2004 05:03:

when Tij comes, he better spin good. that's all i want. i don't care what he does anywhere else but when he comes to TO, he better play his best.

Posted by Trigger on Jan-12-2004 05:11:

Imagine the North American tour will coincide with some sort of tour to promote his new album which is supposed to be out spring/summer. As for all the bashing, it reminds me a lot of when Oakenfold was 'in-DJ' to be bashed. I guess it was bound to happen with Tiesto as well. They get to certain level, get the absolutely worthless DJ ranking which I still don't put much faith in, and then the rest is downhill. Anyway to each their own, personally I had a good time at the Docks gig and hope his next show is equally as good if not better. But looks like it will be awhile before we see him here in the frozen lands....

I agree, but you also have to realize that there are still people who listen to ATB without saying so, and will do whatever they can to be accepted.

maybe because they don't make people as happy as Tiesto does.

I understand that it's hard for all you Tiesto-haters to comprehend, but the man does have the ability to please thousands and thousands of people. I'm sorry you can't be a part of it, but when he does come back, you can always stay home instead of insulting him.

So cyrus..lemme know when tiesto gets his act back together and i may consider seeing him next time he comes to toronto.

He already got "back on track" in June in Toronto at the Docks. Now THAT was night to remember....everyone should download that set and listen to it...great track selection, good mixing and above all, he was in a great mood. I have to admit that his 2002 Kool Haus set was uninspired and a little boring (though I was just happy to see him live), but any doubts I had were wiped away last June.

I think the thing with all the anti-Tiesto people on here is that deep down, you all still love him. You all go to his gigs and have the time of your lives, but then turn around and bash the shit out of him on here. It's sad really.

Posted by Flec on Jan-12-2004 12:26:

i think the point we were trying to make was, yes tiesto is really good, but big deal, no need to go nutz wiating for him, theres TONS of underrated djs that come to toronto that could please your ears just as well as tiesto could.

stop waiting for some big name to come and go explore the SCENE

Lets just hope he doesn't get malaria or something from being down there for 6 weeks straight.
