Yet again... another coupling of the words "cheezy" and "trance".

Its getting kinda lame now.

Posted by Miss Julia on Jan-22-2004 06:50:

There is good trance.... ie James Holden, Sasha, Digweed, Junkie XL.... and then there is CHEESY played out trance.... ie Ferry Corsten, AVB, PVD.

i beleive you are getting PRog mixed up with trance.

I guess the more popular and respected you become... suddenly "cheezy" is begun to be heard.

PVD, AVB, and Corsten are TRANCE.....the way it should be made and played!

But what you find "good" i find boring...so i guess its all a matter of opinion...

Posted by Miss Julia on Jan-22-2004 06:57:

Those dj's i mentioned are PROG TRANCE. anyway, u are right, it's all about your own opinion . Honestly, i used to love Ferry, AVB & PVD... but we get them in LA like 5 times a year... and each time, they play the same garbage. Reminds me of ravers & candy kids! haha

I think i should just mind my own business and stop changing the subject of this thread. Have fun @ System on Hawtin night

i gota disagree too, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

i just cant wait to see him live.. FOR THE FIRST TIME!

i think system is a great venue too for an event like this.. kinda dark and loury, not small but not too big.

i cant wait.

and plus, some cool TA dj's in the vip room as well!

btw.. which one is the vip room? the one in the back or the one to the side in the front.

don't know if this was mantioned yet but Richie will also be making a stop by HMV on Queen around 6pm that same evening.

Just a FYI

Posted by SKELETOR on Jan-22-2004 07:22:

ya right!!

whats he gona be doing there??

Posted by paul d engineer on Jan-22-2004 07:24:

Promoting his new Plastic Man CD

Posted by SKELETOR on Jan-22-2004 07:29:

thats wierd though.. HMV? how many ppl that go there have a clue about who richie hawtin is? maybe play de record or the pitt or maybe even release would be a better idea where they actually have some of his stuff available.

im gona try to be there though to get a record signed maybe and talk to him

Posted by paul d engineer on Jan-22-2004 07:32:

actually that HMV store has a great electronic selection. A lot of people who don't know about Play Da Record or any of the other stores go there if they want to buy the latest Tiesto, Van Dyk or any other electronic artists cds because they usually have it when it gets released.

Posted by SKELETOR on Jan-22-2004 07:37:

i see thats cool.

ya in europe if u go to any place that carry's cds ull see racks and racks of stuff like old rotterdam hardcore and uk garage stuff that i thought didnt even exist!

Posted by SKELETOR on Jan-22-2004 07:38:

u gona be there paul?

Posted by paul d engineer on Jan-22-2004 07:46:

Unfortunately I work from 6pm so won't be able to make it to the store I'll catch up with him at System though

Posted by SKELETOR on Jan-22-2004 07:47:

cool.. ill say hi to u if i recognize u from ure pic.

Posted by Endlesswave on Jan-22-2004 07:53:

Experimental can be VERY good. Although the kind I want to see rarely comes to Canada and when they do I can't see them (aka Squarepusher @ the Phoenix a few months ago last year). DOH!
Might hit this up, might not. Saw Hawtin before, thought it was ok.

gotta pimp them Ho's eh Paul?

Posted by DigDeep on Jan-22-2004 07:58:

Just listened to his new album "Closer". Very minimal, like his previous works as Plastikman. Not exactly the most dance floor friendly music ive ever heard, but interesting nonetheless. After listening to this i popped in his Essential Mix from Manchester to hear a completely opposite sound to which i was just listening to. I dont think this album is the best thing ive ever heard, but you cant doubt its originality. You have to respect someone who is able to put out sounds on so many different levels.

I have a friend who loves Warp Records. I'm also a fan, really like Aphex Twin amongst others. Actually, Squarepusher's new album got leaked and I heard a couple tracks...good stuff.

just down the street from System, lol...Queen/Beverley, I think? yeah, right by Caban...north side...tiny storefront compared to the behemoth on Yonge...that's prob why no one notices it

Posted by DJ_Science on Jan-22-2004 18:56:

I am so there.

Posted by Mrs.Spice on Jan-22-2004 19:08:

Is he actually going to spin tech though? Because I've had experience with djs coming to system who are supposed to spin tech or house and then they spin prog...cause system is a prog bar.
