OMG this is amazing Wim!!!!

Whoooah! Top class mate.

Can't really think of anything other than I didn't get to hear the version with the vocals but I can't really think of a matrix vocal that would fit that style of track. Not to mention that matrix vocals have been done to death.

I must admit that I do hear what DJ-Sean is talking about with the kick sound.

Summary:
Top quality tunage with a lot of excellent energy changes. I like this!

Cheers
Nem

An artifact is a term used to describe something that sticks around after processing that you don't want there. For example (this has happened to me many times), if you rip a kick from a track often times it's not playing solo and has percussions going along with it, and as a result the kick sample will have a high hat kicking around on the tail of it. If you filter out the high frequencies of the tail end to get rid of the hat, you'll often be left this subtle wobble type sound where the high hat once was; this is called an artifact, and that sorta sounds like what's going on here.

One way I've found of getting rid of this is by doing the following:

-Run a highpass filter over your kick to eliminate the bass, then copy the what you have left to the clipboard (the punchy part of the kick).
-Now run a low pass filter over the original kick so you're left with nothing but the bass.
-Cut the tail end containing the artifact off of the kick.
-Stretch what you have left such that it's still the original length, and fade out as necessary.
-Paste the high part of the kick back onto it.

Results may vary

awesome as always

This is Great Trance Music (in capitals)! Should be listened at high volume

One little thing: this kick, it seems to me it's too present, it takes away attention. Is it me, or...?

Sean's got an hell of an ear! I didn't even notice the 'artifact' he speaks of! Wim, keep it up! Remember what I said in my past PM's, how I don't BS when I reviews, and I think your work has improved DRASTICALLY! -Mental

Yeah, I think I know what you mean. With GoldWave (and maybe other programs) you can filter by a certain shape, isn't it? I dunno if it's a hihat in this case though, sounds more like another percussion thingy.

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a shot.

I can't really find it, either.. what do I need to hear it?

To avoid these artifacts, isn't it just better to generate the kicks by yourself? What program could you use for it? I usually create 'em with the Fruity kick in FL but I'd rather use a better one... Tips anyone?

AZCA and Jay M :: thanks for your comment, I appreciate it

Mental :: I know about you not BS'ing mate, don't worry. Glad you see it that way.

As I love chilled trance, there is no doubt that I also like your tune. The sound of the riffs and placement of the notes if skillfuly done can really lift you up to somewhere else. This is the case here however it also shows that I am quiet a long way off of perfecting my own method at writing compeling trance tunes.

Good work mate although one thing suck in my mind after listening to your tune. The kick sounded just that little bit too loud. And by that I really do mean little.

Darrax...

i renamed it to dub, hehe..

dunno, those vocals gave the track that extra touch, that spinetingling feeling..

still an amazing track though!

There's a lot involved in making a pro-sounding kick from scratch. Personally speaking I've never been able to quite get it, and as a result I don't use kicks I've completely made on my own because I know the track will be stronger if I use a combo of well sampled kicks.

From what I've heard of your stuff dude I'd agree this is the strongest thing you've done (not saying your other stuff wasn't great) - real power there and has an almost Bonzai quality (my fave label)

The break is wonderful. Lovely chords and nice and dark feel and my speakers really seem to be working to get the full frequency of your mix in.

I reckon the only thing that makes the solo choir not so good is the lack of variation - it all seems on the same filter setting and volume. Have you considered looking at these?

I see what people mean about the kick being too loud when it kicks back in - it does seem a little dominant at the 5 minute mark.

JAY M> Go for Stomper - very powerful - funny Sean, I thought it was just me who couldn't quite get bassdrum creation...

BUT ANYWAY........

Pro sound, if you haven't got a release in the next year I'd be very surprised.

Posted by Icone on Jan-21-2004 22:15:

BassAngel :: Thanks for the feedback. I did look at those filter settings, but I doubt that will change that much. Fading it in might be too obvious, no?

(I wouldn't be going for Bonzai with any tune anymore though, so I don't really care about whether it's 'Bonzai quality' or not )

Kevin :: might be a good idea to have both the dub and vocal version maybe instead of only one?

dj-sean :: I've fixed the artifact on the kick and am gonna upload it again sometime tomorrow. It was indeed a bit disturbing at times, thanks for pointing that out

Darrax :: thanks mate!

I'm a bit late, but I really like this. SOme of your tunes have been sounding a bit too alike of late (imho), and I was actually starting to miss the 'old' Lightworks sound (Stuff like your remix of Pearl of my Nation etc), but I honestly did enjoy this.

I think it was the pads that did it, i'm a sucker for angelic type strings & pads, I actually wouldn't mind knowing what synth you used to make them.

Nice work.

arctic :: Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed this. I know this isn't the old Lightworks anymore, but I gotta make some progress as well in some way. I hope you understand. That doesn't mean I won't make any 'incredibly' melodic tunes anymore though

DJ SINAN :: Thx alot, I'm glad you like it

downloaded this in the week, but couldn't listen to it before today.
I love this one, it's quality. I like the build-up a lot, mindblowing break and the melody's unique & great. Powerful production.
Good job, i think i'm going to listen to this a lot the forthcoming weeks !

I really like that intro pluck, and the bassline is quality, how did u make that sound!! Strong Percussion. The piano sounds ok, i dont usually like it so low, but this works, quiors are ok, not my cup of tea tho, the strings, oh immaculate m8, excellent, very nice chord progressions, the fx are good at breakdown. Like that backing beat when the lead comes in, it works! Overall good tune, good work wim!
