2003:
206 Kai Tracid
217 Green Velvet/Cajmere
231 Nu-NRG
232 Junior Vasquez
238 Parks & Wilson
239 Taucher
243 Justin Robertson
249 Rank 1

Hehehe, isn't this the list that ranks Tiesto as number 1 ? Mmmm yeah, popularity polls don't mean squat.

Oh, and btw Hex Hector sucks as well ! At least he did when i heard him spinning at Limelight a few years back. I remember him playing some wack mix of Sisqo's thong song and the floor just cleared out. So does Junior Vasquez who's on that list...arrogant prick.

* Damnit, what's come over me ? I don't usually DJ bash...but i just can't help myself today *

wait til you hear him live, you *might* be inclined to change that post...

I wouldn't consider Green Velvet to be part of the house genre.

The *ONLY* remix worth a penny... is THOMAS KROME's!!! Soooooo hard... nice twist on it too.. sucks I had to buy the double EP for that track..

As for House... Green Velvet aka Cajmere... Cajmere is his housey alter ego I believe. I have seen him billed as GV sets or Cajmere sets.

Although Green Velvet - Flash ( Danny Tenaglia mix ) is an absolute stormer !

i agree with you totally... i don't have the urge to see him again either...

that danny tenaglia remix is a classic... great tune

Green Velvet is garbage, I can't believe anyone likes this freak.
Horrible live as well.

Whats so bad about him technically? You think that Dekoze is better then him? So how is it that he made the top DJ list??

Well I do remember quite a few of you getting excited about his coming to Boa. All the house djs on the DJ mag poll fell down spots. Trance is "in" house is "out" now.
As for his sets, why do you have to make fun of him so much? It kind of hurts my feelings you know? Since this is a electronic music website? I get made fun of by some of my vamps for what I listen to but I was least expecting it here.

P.S. That "wack" mix got him a grammy dumbass.

Lol, Green Velvet is one man. He's pretty eccentric and ecclectic so I'm guessing that's why guys all hate him. I'm into that though I guess you can say. I mean just look at me lol.

Posted by beatjunkie on Jan-20-2004 14:30:

Ok
First off anyone who knows anything about that "list" will know it is a popularity contest and has nothing to do with any form of skill. Technically Dekoze DOES blow him out of the water, heck I probably do.
Second about your list, HE WAS RANKED 217!!

I am seriously surprised at how much credit you are giving him. Sorry, I guess I don't share the same taste in music as you and if you like him all the power to you. I have seen him and IMO he sucks.

Have a good time.

Oh no, a grammy...then it must be good !
Deep Dish got a grammy as well, so did seal, but both those tracks were weak in my opinion...i form my opinions based on what I hear, not what i read. Guess that's the difference. Anyway, hope you enjoy the show.

PS. I didn't want to start a flame war, cause my intention when posting in this thread was only to give my opinion based on my experiences. Don't take it so personally ( unless of course i'm actually talking to Green Velvet in disguise. )

Oh, and this 'dumbass' would also like to point out that Hex Hector won a grammy, but not for that garbage mashup of Sisqo's Thong song, but for "Feelin' So Good" J-Lo's highly overrated track...and the category was best remixer (non classical).

Grammy awards given to guys from the EDM scene just shows you who is trying to cross over, and who isn't. Deep Dish, Hex Hector and recently Bill Hamel have won for tracks that had commercial appeal...if that's you cuppa tea, fine, but please, using that to support your claim that he's good is just weak...

Got it ? Good.

2001 - Remixer of the Year, Non-Classical
Hex Hector
* Feelin' So Good (Hex Hector Club Mix) (Jennifer Lopez) (S) * Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche) (Hex Hector Radio Mix) (98) (S) * I Learned From The Best (HQ2 Club Mix) (Whitney Houston) (S) * I Turn To You (Hex Hector Radio Mix) (Melanie C) (T) * Music (HQ2 Radio Mix) (Madonna) (S) * Spanish Guitar (HQ2 Club Mix) (Toni Braxton) (T)

Hex Hector, so underground, it makes me wanna cry....

Ive always considered GV to be on the outer edge of techno. When I think of house, I think of bumpin, funky house, or classic, vocal house...when I think of GV, I think of the show at KH in 2002 and the Dave Clarke remix of "la la land." Totally not the same thing!

I do think Hex is a talented remixer. But no, he's not underground.
(Spanish Guitar is f'en awesome. very sensual remix.)

Well why don't you admit that you don't like the genre of music he spins rather than saying he sucks? Honestly I hate what Digweed spins and the same goes for Tiesto...But I still think they're decent DJs. Anyone who can get a grammy has to be talented, and Dekoze can't produce. You gotta give GV respect as an artist. Though you might think his songs are cheesy or what not they're still extremely creative and genuine. Go to his website, watch his video...he deserves credit!!!!!!!!!

Hex Hector got a bunch of grammies for artists he's worked with. What you call commercial bullshit is still what the majority of people out there listen to. You can't just say that one kind of music is better than another, you have to give all artists credit for doing what they're doing. I know tons of people who hate what I listen to, hate Carl Cox, hate Lawler and Picotto....

Well what about progressive house or tech house? GV is tech house in my opinion.

that would be a disaster if he was even considered to be in the same category as other house masters

Posted by Kytracid on Jan-20-2004 18:55:

yeah seriously, get off his dick already !
I'm not saying one type of music is better then another. I'm expressing my opinion on which music i like. I didn't say GV sucks, i said i wouldn't go and see just him. Hex H and Junior V DO Suck. Bottom Line. I've seen both of them spin a bunch of time to know this, and i don't care where they place on a friggin popularity poll.

PS. Seems you get rubbed the wrong way when people don't agree with you, but i'm sure i've read at least a few posts where you bash DJ's...so quit moaning about it.

A majority of people also listen to Britney Spears and Justin Timberland, should i be giving credit to them as well ? If you run with the majority you're probably never going to be in danger of having your tastes questioned. Personally, i've never been a fan of 'sheep', so i'll form my own opinion on what i consider bullshit.

what does britney have to do with anything?

the majority of people doesnt listen to green velvet or electronic music for that matter.

being a producer that peaked in 94 and being on any list is awesome. look even rank 1 was bellow him. no dj on that list is bad. they can all spin better than the tens of thousands of bedroom djs and club djs around the world. and they can definately spin better than all of you. so theres no need to hate. GV is first and foremost a producer. who cares if he has bad sets sometimes (bad meaning you ppl dont like it). IMO hes awesome. who cares if hes a little cheesy or retro. so is above and beyond, so is rank 1, and for fuks sake, so is motherfuking g&d. so fuk of haters.

GV is in the same league as van helden and thats saying a lot. u guys can hate hate hate all u fuking want. bottom line is, the lists dont lie. tiesto IS number one since hes the only one who can draw a concert by himself like the way he did at gelredome. i like ferry a lot more but that doesnt mean that tiesto is not more in demand.

Posted by Mrs.Spice on Jan-20-2004 20:33:

and all you people hating on him and saying he sucks dont even list your reasons. you just say he sucks. why does he suck???? bad song selection? bad mixing? tell me please. because then i can pinpoint exactly why youre so annoying about this.

I dont think anyone is arguing that. Obviously if you make that "list" you've got some skills. But i do agree with Shawzy (Matt) that it is mostly a popularity contest. I saw Green Velvet twice. He was shitty the first time (@ Summers End 2002) and pretty good the second time (@Smirnoff 2002). Hes one of those guys you either really like or dislike and arguing over this is as pointless as starting another trance vs. prog thread. I love some of his productions (La La Land, Genedefekt) over played, but still wicked to groove to! It seems to me he tries too hard to entertain during his sets rather than focus on stringing together a technically balanced set. Mrs. Spice, why dont you save you fingers the trouble and stop trying to convince people to change their minds about this guy and go enjoy his set @ System with or without TA's in your presence.
