it's not just mike or oakenfold or paul van dyk; it concerns all famous producers out there. the thing is, some people here only seem to care about the names, and not the actual music. whenever their beloved producer releases something new, that production automatically becomes an instant classic, no matter how bad it may actually sound. such people are mere puppets who will drool over anything even remotely related to their idols. that's why, when such a producer creates a particularly weak composition, his/her idolaters never admit it to be a poorly-produced piece of trash. instead, they prefer to call it an EXPERIMENT. not a half-assed attempt of making things as what it actually is, but an experiment (whatever the hell that's supposed to mean). pvd's latest album is an obvious example of that. it's a rather insipid and uninspired production of his. and yet some people are persistently trying to come up with an excuse that would make up for its overall poor quality. they say pvd, being a god, is not capable of doing mistakes - he is just experimenting. say, isn't it fuckin great? what a spunky experimentalist he must be to come with such crap as "reflections"... or take this new project of mike that is obviously oriented to a bigger, mainstream audience. with this *generic* creation, he utilizes a well-known scheme to appeal to a larger, far-less fastidious group of listeners, which will certainly boost up its sales. so what is it then, another experiment? no, just a blatant hunt for money.

I actually think its OK, not bad. Im just very concerned in terms of where MIKE and all his other projects will be heading, This might be a sad day for trance...

Of course he can do what he wants. But that doesn't mean I have to like it, or give it praise.
I think it fucking sucks.
Do I still like Mike? Of course, he is a great producer. If he wants to branch out into other types of music, possibly so he can actually make a few $$, the more power to him.
But I still think this song or project, sounds like a load of horse excrement.

I like it, very well produced and musically it's a good composition. Sure it isn't the style he's known for but so what? I'm not gonna hate a style of music just because people in a community don't like it. At the end I love trance, but I'm not really a TRANCEaddict, I'm more of a MUSICaddict.

as i said before: it's not a loop repeating itself all the time

the production IS good, it contains a lot of different elements to keep it interesting..

if it was only for money, he wouldn't have combined all these elements from different styles. he would just have created a catchy groove and thrown a bunch of random 'i love you' vocals on it.. this is definitely not the case.

i do partially agree with you, although i still believe there are a lot of people who will love the music for what it is. Same thing with pvd, i for example DO love some songs of his 'reflections' album (crush, nothing but you, time of our lives, three 'commercial' examples). I don't say the entire cd rox or something, but it has it good songs.

I just can't stand people who act like sheep just blindly following artists and praising them for every sound they create. And again, i'm not talking about the people who actually DO love the music (like tor clearly)

I think this new project is terrible. Does'nt MIKE know that we listen to his music so we don't have to listen to that kind?! This really sucks.

My feelings exactly. But if he's having fun doing this, that's all that matters. I'm rathger happy that maybe we will hear some other M.I.K.E. sounds for a change. Recycle is too big a friend of his Who says this is not a loop btw ? Are you being sarcastic ? I was expecting something renewing but it isn't so oh well, I'm sure he'll make $$ with this. Kinda reminds me of the song from Romeo Must Die btw, with that black chiq who's plane crashed Aaliyah or something. no ?

if you don't like it, don't listen to it.

besides, Mike does not have to do what YOU like, Mike has to do what HE likes.

@ BelgianGuru: well of course there's a loop, but it's much more complex than 50Cent - In Da Club for example. Mike's track is far more interesting at that point.

Posted by noikeee on Jan-22-2004 17:30:

sounds like if Kylie Minogue turned to R&B and someone changed the vocals

bleh, somehow i was liking it but it's not my cup of tea at all. i can't see why the production is THAT good, well better than the 5sec hip-hop loop, but there are many mainstream, cheese tracks well produced.

anyway, after the amount of quality tracks he has put out, mike could make a diabokua bootleg mix between a Britney Spears and a Justin Timberlake track including the defecating sounds as the mainlead, and i wouldn't give a fuck.

Posted by DeviantxPete on Jan-22-2004 17:33:

At least it's not as bad as "Paul van Dyk & DJ Tomekk - Knowledge"

Posted by dj1212 on Jan-22-2004 19:45:

hmmm...wouldn't call it a bad tune, but it is pretty mediocre. Might grow on me who knows? Doubt it would chart in any country.

In my opinion, the greatest producers and DJs will always be the ones that study and understand ALL genres of music...for example,

Paul Oakenfold used to do A&R for Def Jam, one of the oldest hip-hop labels in the USA...

Mauro Picotto did the procuction for the Euro Dance group Capella...

Markus Schulz used to do remixes and re-edits of songs by Corona, Le Click, etc. years ago for a DJ promo service...

Dave Dresden used to program Promo Only's Import Club series from 1997 until 2002 when it went defunct...

These guys all know there stuff, which IMO is why they are excellent producers/DJs who tend to have a little more variety in their productions and DJ sets.

Although i got no time for surfin' the net..
I did the last time, and visited some forums..
tranceaddict,trance.nu,local dance boards...

I noticed that some people are afraid of changes in life..
I'll do all the time...
And that's why i'm working on so many projects...dj'ing..etc...

Cause each project(s) reflects something out of my daily living.

Every day my mind reaches so many information by walking around, tele, internet, radio, when i'm in the studio, even in the gym....

I'm so diverse when it becomes to life...so many things to fulfill..so many thing i wanna do..

But when it becomes to music..so many things to-do..
Like : starting making this Diabokua stuff is not M.I.K.E....but Mike..
Cool to see how people react when i'm following another lane..

"Stick to Push"--"Mike making same tunes"--"Mike leaving dance?".etc..
Most of them sharing the thoughts about what i should do...fine..

Close friends and fanz will be there to give me support..i guess..

Don't forget that things are pretty bad down the music industry.
At least i take the time to-do something, wich can put me to a higher level..no?

I might drive a bmw,but still need to work for it.
...no no....it's not THAT for granted..

I see people writing things on the boards and stuff...good things..fluffy things..bad things..
So funny to read the PRO and CONTRA.

At the end..i don't care...freedom of speech and i like honesty..

But what really bothers me is that people don't know what's behind a persons life!!...

especially mine!..
Yeah...i was into drugs long time ago..yeah..i did steal once in my life (to buy records ops:

Believe me :
I know what it is to have nothing!..but i know and learned now what it is to achieve and to respect something..

my music is ONE in my life...
Whenever it comes to trance,techno,electro,pop...i will be there..

This is not a confession, not of a dangerous mind anyway ;-) ,but my point is :

ONLY JUDGE WHEN YOU REACH SOMETHING THAT YOU KNOW YOU DID IT YOUR OWN WAY...

I have so many respect for all those who are visiting this board..and just wanna to share this with you boys and girls..

I will NEVER let you down...good things to come....2004.

Mike
