the only time i've enjoyed vocals are in songs by dj rush, green velvet... ONE NIGHT IN NYC!!
i dont like vocals because they never speak to me... just melodies in general convey a universal theme which we can all relate to, and when vocals come in it kinda just looses its focus...
dont know if that makes sense or not.
lustral - everytime... that song is also really good with vocals.
oh ya and of course all the old hardcore songs are amazing and wouldnt be what they are without the high pitch vocals
art of noise - yebo works well
not much vocal cept yebo bo bo bo
but the vocals with the backing beat work.
Pretty much anything with Jan Johnston's voice on it.

| Originally posted by StereoPrincess i like vocals, pretty much all of them. The only ones I can't really stand are the ones that are super super super cheese, I can't even think of an example but pretty much if a track makes me burst out laughing when the vocals kick in, that's shit. |

the only type of vocals that i pretty much always like, are the deep male vocals in house/circuit/tribal
thick dick- welcome to the jungle
superchumbo- this beat is
sexxxy!
I can see why these types of tracks are popular at circuit parties.
For myself I have found that a song with vocals will become boring a lot quicker than a song without vocals.
Take "As the rush comes" for example. When it first came out, I thought the track was SOOOO GOOD !! But two weeks later it got way too boring for my liking.
I can't talk about prog, but with Trance, there is only maybe two, three DJs who can produce/remix tracks with good vocals. Tiesto is obviously number 1 in that department. IMHO, PVD sucks in that respect, as I hated absolutely every one of his tracks that had vocals in them.

i was in the bars before electronic music so i was raised on vocals...i still like them but in doses...
a club like fly will play alot of vocals early and then cut back later on which is a nice mix...for me anyway...

Agree w Toran, Durafei and MarkT. Vocals can be AMAZING if the voice does what it's supposed to do, work with the song. If it's just thrown in for the sake of things, then it will be crap.
Sarah McLachlan - Fear (Hybrid's Super Collider Remix)
Sultan - Night Visions
Unkle - Rabbit In Your Headlights
Morjac feat. Raz Conway - Stars (Lee Cabrera Vocal Mix)
some of the vocal tracks i like

i thought of one more vocal track that i love!
john creamer and stephane k - i wish you were here
but this is different, cos it's more "spoken" than sung. and it's darker. i hate happy lyrics

well, ii='m going to stray from where my mind was after i read this whole thread, because just seeing vocals made me think of the beautiful voices of the ladies that lace trance beats.
Nadia Ali, the vocalist for iio, just fucking ruins me. anytime i put on one of their songs, i have to lock my door. and wow, she's so damn hot. i was supposed to model in a fashion show that she was going to be singing at last month, but it was in buffalo, so it cancelled. imagine that.
Good placement of vocal tracks can really add to a set. Lyrics convey a specific subject where instrumental leaves the emotion up to each individual. A hundred different people can get a hundred different feelings from a track with no lyrics but it's not quite the same with vocal tracks. Someone mentioned that vocal tracks get old quicker, I agree with that but some are really good when they are new. But if a dj doesnt play a vocal track in thier set, it's ok with me as long as the set is bangin anyway. so there ya go, a lot of writing but not much said about it. sometimes i like vocal tracks and sometimes i can do without
I don't mind vocal singing to much but i prefer non lyrics like
Dream Catcher by Dj Keoki is old but classic
I love vocals!
Sometimes it's true some of them are totally cheesy and ruin the track, but in general i find vocals amazing
Some of my favorites:
4 Strings - Diving (hiver & hammer remix)
Oceanlab ft. Justine Suissa - Satellite (that track is
)
4 Strings - Let it rain
Marco V - I feel you
I think the vocals on those tracks just take everything to a new dimension. Of course, that's just my opinion
love em
i love vocals when they are done right. underworld wouldn't exist! of course, i love music in general and voice is important. the human voice is beautiful and is another musical instrument in itself.
tracks off the top of my head that have stayed with me...
freefall - skydive
olive - you're not alone
unkle - in a state
li kwan - point zero
underworld - born slippy
james holden - i have put out the light
cass & slide - perception
and hundreds more...
i love vocals!
whether they are actual lyrics, or spoken word...if they sound good, then i'm down.
lyrics:
duran & aytek - searching
astrolab - come my way
christian cambas - it scares me
traffik - your light (chable mix)
spoken word:
nine mile men - medicine
beanfield - the season
steve.
steve!!!!

steve.
