American football = football with pads

I despise American football so much.

How does that line go in Baseketball...

"More thought goes into executing the celebration the follows the play than the play itself"

and the Superbowl is an all-day advertisment...

okies this isnt meant to offend anyone

Rugby - Real mans game
Football - Real mans game
American football - Men trying to play rugby, but dont wanna get hurt so they wear loads of padding (or is that just to make themselves look bigger)
soccer - 5 aside girls game

this is only my opinion no offence

*gets down on knees and prays* please dont get pounced on by many men for this (but then again)

1) that makes no sense. soccer is futbol so how can it be more girly.

2) what makes futbol more manly than any other sport? is it their short shorts and big socks?

3)American football is not trying to be rugby. If you know anything about football its a totally different sport. My sister plays rugby in the states on a pro team so i have seen it quite often. If they didn't wear pads would that really change anything? No. They dont need to look bigger, especially when you weight 250-300lbs.

No offense taken we all have opinions, I just like opinions to be backed up by reasons rather than just calling something "girly" or "manly". If you get pounced on i have a set of "american football pads" for you to wear.

just accept it... American Football is boring.

Posted by getfoul on Jan-25-2004 02:45:

if you want to bring in the "boring" aspect. try another sport too. An American sport, NASCAR. I am a fan of F1 racing *ohh i wonder whos going to win this race... Ferrari maybe?* but i am a bigger fan of nascar due to the higher risks and it being a more even field. But still people label it as boring, and say only Americans watch it. I know of Japanese people that wake up at 2AM to watch a race live. Nobody watchs it? Then why are the stands which on average hold 100k-300k people FULL.

Onto my point. Never call a sport boring because there are always those who enjoy it.

I myself enjoy soccer i have played it since i was 5. Although American football is really fun to go watch and play.

What a load of crap, us Aussies call it soccer as well, as we have our own footy code: AFL (Although Rugby is big down here as well).

But yeah, soccer all the way.

You need patience to watch football. (The one that the whole world loves) Too many people in the society lacks patience these days.

And a thumbs up to rugby.

what's to accept, im not a big football fan anyways. I think the playoff games can be quite exciting though. I just hate people comparing it to soccer just because of the name when they have nothing to do with each other. I'd say soccer is more comparable to watching paint dry than football.

I'm a basketball fan. Are you guys gonna say it can't be called that either because it doesnt use a basket?

Posted by Danny Ocean on Jan-25-2004 04:12:

Soccer all the way. Its more of an art than a sport. The way the goals are scored are beautiful, legendary if they are unique. No one remembers a touchdown, there all pretty much the same. But a goal is something different. I like watching the spanish league. Real Madrid is my team. But again as they said , i got like 100 channels of football and only crappy soccer.

Posted by Omegasox on Jan-25-2004 04:55:

Why does everyone always bring up the "Why do they call it football when they hardly use their feet" in every single American football thread. Get over it already! You don't see Americans coming in every thread asking why they call it cricket do you? Funny tho it's always the same person echoing the anti-American sentiments.

I like both if it's any consolation.

Posted by Eddie N MIAMI on Jan-25-2004 05:06:

I like both Footballs.I play real football and to watch I like American Football more unless theres a world cup or champions league game. Its weird how in sports shows here like sportscenter they show highlights of sports that are much more boring like golf and nobody seems to have a problem with that yet there are so many big soccer games around the world and it gets no airtime.I speak spanish so I'm lucky I can see the soccer news/games on the spanish channels.

For everyone who calls American football boring, absolutely nothing is more boring than watching the f---ing Italian soccer teams play to a 1-0 win.

Posted by Xavier on Jan-25-2004 08:09:

Real Football definately

For me the culture of it, the singing coming from the fans along with the scarves raised or flares etc. And also the waiting for a goal to be scored, the missed chances, Goal Keeper's save. Like someone said earlier all you need is patience. Thank God Goals have are rare, so when a goal is scored your feelings can be expressed in. oooohhh the ecstasy & the agony.
If you cant handle watching Real Football then thats because you are a spectator rather than a supporter.

Watching American Football on the otherhand allows you to eat a hot dog. There is no flow ffs. Touchdowns are too common, that results in the supporter(s) expresses little feeling unless its an important touchdown.

Posted by squirrelly on Jan-25-2004 09:06:

Futbol! Doesn't get better than the world cup! I used to play all the time. I used to be pretty good. I use past tense because who knows if I'm still as good as I was.

I've never been able to understand Football... I guess that's just my roots peeking through. Can't understand why men want to wear tight clothes and constantly bash into each other to move a grand total of two feet and a shitload of pain? Damn Americans...

Posted by UnBracKo on Jan-25-2004 11:24:

Real football (soccer).
It's the national sport in the countries of Europe and so we have a football culture. Since we are kids our parents joined us to a football team and then you watched the matches on the TV every Saturday's night. American football it's not popular here. There is an european american football league but I suppose it's the second league of the NFL in USA so not comparisable with the NFL.

It's all about rugby.

Posted by UglyDave on Jan-25-2004 14:47:

american football = pussies version of rugby

Posted by Ian on Jan-25-2004 15:11:

F O O T B A L L is our worldy sport where people use feet and hand's are not allowed, it is played by people from Brazil to Saudi Arabia to Aruba to The bleak place that is Scotland

American Football is just an ego trip for men who like to dress up in stupid padding & kits and helmets and throw a ball, it's as much a sport as Masturbation, and is just like Baseball which is a poor mans cricket, only Basketball being a sport played bigtime in america is worth watching, plus ice-hockey which is just brutal fun (well playing nhl games from ea sports makes it that )

Posted by New Wave on Jan-25-2004 15:29:

I love soccer. (AFC AJAX)
I only watch NFL on TV.

What I was wondering, in europe every soccer club has his owh group of fanatic hooligans. Does the NFL in the states have that to?

Yeah, i love the N.B.A. and college basketball.

Never watch American Football, not because i don't like it but they just don't play this on television.
Champions league football is very cool.

Hockey is more fun to watch than basketball

I don't think so... I moved from europe to USA 7 years ago almost, and I have never seen such a thing occur...

Posted by wick on Jan-25-2004 17:38:

cricket is the best its basically the only sport i can watch. watching aus own england is always fun D jk

watchin rugby when the world cup was on, was fun too.

cant stand AFL (aussie rules footy) bunch of pretty boys on a field, although NFL seems to be more pansy like than AFL. at least they dont wear armor/padding i suppose.

anyway back to the question.. soccer or nfl? neither, never watch any of them so i wouldnt know

USA invented baseball, the national sport probably for the last 100 years or so. Now its not as much as its used to but that is because we have many sports that are popular, not only soccer like the rest of the world. No one watches soccer here because we are busy watching football, baseball, basketball, hockey, not to mention college sports, etc. This leaves less airtime for soccer which has less airtime than even golf. Hell even poker and iceskating get more airtime than soccer.

Im not putting down the fact u invented any sports, im saying where ur country come as a whole against other competitions. Baseball is played between very few countries, im talking about something like the World Cup, as i mentioned USA during the world cup, no one cared! If you experienced as a nation coming together on one day to hope ur country wins the world cup, well lets just say that you are missing out on something very unique and can not be matched by any other sports competition.

The fact that football, or soccer gets very little airtime just backs up the point that football has little support in the USA and will never break into world domination, even though, the potential is there ( players like Adu)

Posted by ehehe on Jan-25-2004 20:54:

I generally don't like "sport" where you play 20 seconds and have a 10 minutes pause. That' fucking ridiculous.

Of course I prefer real football.
