Bitching about how EDM gets no (decent) mainstream exposure in the US=the ultimate straw man

Just stop bitching and get over it

Idunno... sometimes it can be pretty hard to find good trance with all of the cheese out there. And people are such dumbasses sometimes... they think darude is so awesome... Meh... Perhaps this is a good thing... trance is hard to find... so it weeds out the dumbasses! Thus most trance-addicted people are smart. And if you're a trance-addict, you're likely smart, so you get along better with other smart people (this is obvious... most smart people aren't friends with many dumbasses). So theoretically, if you like trance and another person likes trance, you'll get along because you're of similar intelligence? lol I think I took that way too far. Well... MOST trance people who AREN'T on drugs seem to be intelligent...

i beg to differ...

completely...
i don't think it's based on intelligence at all..
it's based on the perceptions you have in life...the goals you have, the outlook you have on life in general...by no means intelligence...

the majority of people who listen to trance/have these same musical interests have the outlook that life is a) all about what you make it or b) about doing what you like/what you want...
not about how successful you are...
we also rely on the friendships we make...we feed of those that share the same ideals as we do...
that's what make us tick...

lol... u live in wisconsin... what do u expect? all u guys do is eat cheese...

Posted by DJ_Elyot on Jan-28-2004 05:12:

Idunno... maybe that's just my opinion because I've always been an intelligent person (95+ average in school) and I usually get along best with other people of decent intelligence. I get so annoyed by genuinely stupid people. And all of the trance people I know are also pretty smart people. But I guess EDM has it's dumb crowd too (all the drug-addicted "ravers" and such) but idunno... that's just from my experience that people who have discovered trance music on their own tend to be smart people that I get along with. But I do agree with you very much that we share a similar carefree type of outlook on life.

i know one other person that listens to trance
wooooooo, what i want to know is what people have on those ipods that dont listen to trance..

rap albums? or rock albums?
70's 80's 90's music singles can only fill up so much space

(to them, any synth track is techno), but they don't know what good dance music is out there because it doesn't get exposure on the radio or on MTV, etc. A lot of them search for it on KaZaA and end up with shitty cheese-dance music that sucks ass.

It would be nice if some quality trance got exposure and radio playtime... the only problem is that I think if people saw there was money in getting trance on MTV and radio, they'd start mass-producing it and the quality would degrade. If trance got played all the time, then too much crap trance would start to come out and it would dominate the airwaves and shut down the good, hard-working trance artists. Maybe no exposure is a good thing for us.

hey thats an interesting analogy!!!!

i kinda agree with you there... but not completely... it really depends how you define smart... are u talking booksmart or just streetsmart... i know a few ppl who are average or above average (hell even i wouldnt go farther than putting myself above average) and we have the same taste in music, get along great and we're the best of friends!!!!!

but yeah about the outlook in life ... yeah you just have to be that type of a person who doesn't stick to the stereotypes and likes to make his/her own path

cheerS!!!!!

Im definitely only TA in town, have never met someone else here how likes trance. Clubs hardly never plays trance and definitely not on radio... I'm tranceaddict her on my own but Im happy

Posted by T_2199 on Jan-28-2004 09:47:

If underground trance goes commercial without a quality loose then I guess its a good thing but most people have a different taste than we have and they listen to all that commercial crap shit.. or they just dont know the good trance ?! actually i cant imagine someone prefer jan wayne over filo&peri per example

Posted by eyeball_2003 on Jan-28-2004 10:30:

hey how do you think i feel? my mates still buy fucking clubland cds and think they are the mutts nuts. lol!
i try and tell them what i listen to is the best but they wont have it ah well they r the ones missing out imo

Posted by DJ_Elyot on Jan-28-2004 16:45:

Just burn them a really good liveset or mix... I guarantee you'll change their minds quite quickly about what good trance truly is.

Posted by benni on Jan-28-2004 20:04:

all tranceaddicts should move to a one specific place, where pop music is forbidden, and live happily ever after...

Posted by getfoul on Jan-28-2004 20:21:

my friend asked me for some good trance so i told him to download the PVD energy set from here and he said it was all crap. Then he turned on some ian van dahl.

Posted by UnBracKo on Jan-28-2004 20:34:

I suppose I'm the only real tranceaddict here in my town, but I have good luck cos' techno is popular here and I like too. We have good techno clubs and ppl know the names of the big techno Dj's.
About trance I try to introduce it to my friends (burning cd's or telling good tunes to them) and in fact some of them like trance and even sometimes I can listen trance in their cars and I'm glad to listen trance in a different car than mine. But it's dificult cos' no trance clubs and no trance radio stations here, so trance doesn't have diffusion. Cheese is also popular (Dj Sammy, Milk inc, Kate Ryan...) and on dance radio stations you can listen some overplayed and famous trance tracks like Nothing but you, let it rain, lethal industry... but nothing more like that!
I feel strange when ppl ask me; what music do you listen? and at first time I answer trance! and then goes the typical fucking question what the hell is trance? is it similar to what? and I have to say you know like techno... bump! bump! I feel strange cos' then I talk with dutch, english... friends and some of them don't like trance but they know who is Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk or the Gatecrasher. Even the foreigner girls (friends), who hate trance and love R'nB, know these names and they know what is trance! So in some places specially U.K., The Netherlands exist a trance culture. An example; I read in a Misja Helsloot's interview that Tiesto can't walk on the Netherlands streets without to sign an autograph to a fan, here nobody would recognize Tiesto!!

lol! this set is too hard and bumping for a noob who starts to listen trance. Try to introduce him into trance with Armin/Ferry melodic and vocal sets.

Posted by loulou on Jan-28-2004 21:09:

If the people you try to get into trance just don't get then screw it. Who wants to party with them anyway?

Posted by everything0 on Jan-28-2004 22:46:

all of us here love trance, thats why we're TAs. i'm sure somewhere out there theres a hiphopaddict or a rockaddict or whateveryoucallitaddict. if we all liked the same music this world would be pretty boring.

me ---> i listen to trance
them ---> trance? so like that "blade" song?
me --- shakes head

Posted by KaOtiK1 on Jan-29-2004 02:54:

I am the only one prolly in my damn state that listens to real trance.. for a while they were playin alice deejay and darude on the radio so it was getting pretty popular.. but now they took that away since no body liked it.. so now when i go to the record stores they tell me "damn ur the only one who buys "techno" cd's i havnt sold any since alice deejay and darude were popular" but then agian look where i live
