hmmm....to me it honestly it seems like you're not really aware of what's out there at the moment, you're claiming that the trance of today is something that it's really not close to at all...benny benassi...? so i dunno what you have or have not been listening to, but i think there's a lot of stuff out right now you'd probably like, but just aren't aware of.

Mike Shiver - Live on Trance Airwaves Transcend 2 - [01-19-2004]

01 St. John vs Locust - Mind Circles (Passiva Remix)
02 Kyau vs Albert - Velvet Morning (Aalto Remix)
03 Mk-S vs Robert Nickson - Untitled
04 Rio Klein - Fearless (Agnelli & Nelson Remix)
05 Factoria - Collision Course
06 Sonicvibe & Mike Shiver - Lunation
07 Oceanlab - Satellite
08 Super 8 - Alba
09 Faraway Project - Without Fear
10 Darren Tate vs Jono Grant - Nocturnal Creatures
11 Mike Shiver & Envio - Arise
12 Octagen vs Arizona - Starburst
13 Neo & Farina - Barchetta (M.I.D.O.R. & Six4Eight Remix)
14 Filo & Peri Presents Empire State - Niagara
15 Elevation - Wandering Soul
16 Clokx - Overdrive
17 Fictivision vs Phynn - Escape (Phynn Mix)
18 FX Zone - Synthasia (Nu-NRG Remix)
19 Alex M.O.R.P.H. - Flaming Clouds (Instrumental Mix)

if you can listen to the above mix, and honestly say you don't like a single song on it, then i'd probably agree that your love of trance, as it is today, is dead...

Super 8 - Alba, Robert Nickson - Spiral, Oceanlab - Satellite, Sonicvibe & Mike Shiver - Lunation (Masters & Nickson Remix), St. John vs Locust - Mind Circles, Primolux - Turnpoint, Scarab - Soul Sailor / Vagabond / Monday A.M. / Monday P.M., Classified Project - Starlight Chaser, Octagen & Arizona - Starburst, Ryan G - Emoticon (Octagen Remix), Mike Shiver - Feelings, Ace's Delight - Mental Theme (Ultra Trance Remix)... that's just a short list off the top of my head of songs you should have heard.

if you think you don't like trance anymore, but you don't recognize these, you're most likely missing the kind of trance that you'd like!

I hardly like any of these tracks
+ that's the last style I'd like to hear at the club...for me this set is for home listening

Posted by Terayon on Jan-31-2004 17:49:

quick jump out a window!

Posted by Ste on Jan-31-2004 17:54:

these days trance is shit because people judge it what it sound like on mp3 at home and not in a club. a lot of this nu breed of airy fairy trance which is coming out is crap in a club and i cant stand listening to it, and all the old dtyles are ditched because of the people sat at home listenings to their mp3's buying the records and bigging them up on messageboards.

Threads like these are hilarious, I mean it's music!

Some people on this forum complain about "close-minded" people asking them to spin hip-hop when they're doing a set. Obviously you're not going to change style right in the middle of your set!

Guys, I'm starting to listen to music that isn't just trance! Help me! No, you don't need help, it's good that you're doing it, the more different kinds of music you experience the better for you. Lots of electronic music producers didn't come into the world with a synthesizer and drum machine in their hand, take for example infected mushroom, both Erez and Duvdev had training in the classical music before they got interested in what they are doing now.

Listening to many different genres makes you a better person, try it out, if you need to get someone to hold your hand, come on you can do it!

Posted by swe_Trancer on Jan-31-2004 23:18:

I mostly go like:
trance--->metal--->hiphop--->house--->breaks--->techno

and then it starts over again but ofcourse not in the same order...
I find my self being most happy during the house period and kind of down on the metal period...

the trance that's been put out recently may be crap but the old stuff will always be around and then I listen to that after a time not listening to it , it brings back memories and emotions

Exactly. Do we want beats for the sake of beats, and synths for the sake of synths? Fuck no, we want music that has life in it. And there's a lot of shit out that is just beats for beats sake and synths for synths sake, then by the time you find the good stuff you've already got a headache from the uninspired crap.

Well that's your opinion, but you have to see his gig live to appreciate it for what it is, I've only seen him twice but it has changed my view on music completely, actually I can't wait to see him again, this friday at Turnmills in London 1st time after last summer, anyway listening to mp3 or whatever and seeing it live is 2 different things. I love trance and all the current tunes, can't imagine being without it as far as music is concerned, at work we listen to everything But trance, so I spend a lot of time without the music, that's how I managed to stick with it for such a long time
So listening to other music isn't necessarily bad, it makes you come back to trance cause you realise other music sucks

Posted by pooley on Feb-02-2004 11:54:

Well, I don't stick to trance, never did.
It all started with techno

Now I'm more into Trance again, for the past 3-4 years I mean, and House is also becoming a big part in it.
Went to a mayor house / prog disco (La Rocca) Saturday and I really liked the music.

I have to listen to rock and all the other crap also cause most of my friends like it. Doesn't bother me that much as long as I can put some trance tracks on after them

Posted by eRRaTiK on Feb-02-2004 14:01:

oakenfold - tranceport (1997)

that's where it's at

btw, that Mike Shiver set is a lot like AVB's recent sets (track-wise). ASOT 130 for example.

Saw Armin @ Sublime (Sydney) last week and he absolutely rocked the joint. played a 5hr mix of prog, tech, hard and uplifting. the biggest response came from his uplifting tracks (gotta love the sing-a-longs) so he's still got it... just his style is moving with the times.

prog, techno + others doesn't (and probably won't ever) bring out the same range of emotions that trance does for me.

not saying there aren't some nice prog tracks out there, just won't go nuts over a prog tune as i would a trance tune.

i've been listening to more chillout recently...

This week Oakenfold's '99 Essential Mix sets have been on my playlist. Trance at its best

im drifting away as well

its almost all the same with trance these days

Posted by tall paul 2 on Feb-02-2004 18:12:

I want to join as well! Trance has been on a low i think in the last 6 months or so.. Its all about house and funky house for me these days, much better cos its got a nice easy beat to dance to!!

Think i need to get to a big festival in the summer to get back into Trance...

I disagree , if you search you will find some quality stuff. (Ferry corsten - rock your body rock , .. )

Posted by DeviantxPete on Feb-02-2004 18:27:

I'm in my tech-trance phase at the moment. It owns me.

Posted by noonboy on Feb-02-2004 18:54:

3 years ago it was only trance for me.

Today it's prog, breaks, big beat, alt. rock, post-rock, indie-rock, trip-hop, ambient......lots of more! I still enjoy some trance, though.

What I think you need is a break. After a while you may find some few tunes of trance that you still find enjoyable. Or you may not. I respect you whatever decision you make. Anyone who dares explore the musicworld outside trance (and even EDM) deserves respect.

Posted by AlphaStarred on Feb-02-2004 18:59:

listen to lange feat. skye - drifting away (hiver & hammer rmx)

Posted by Shudder on Feb-02-2004 21:24:

I've changed in the same way. Before, I used to listen to only uplifting and melodic trance, that's it. But I started to get bored of just listening to one banging tune after another. It started to seem all the same to me. So I've branched off into progressive trance and progressive house as well and I'm trying to get as much exposure to these genres as possible. I can say that I'm glad I did this. Not only have I expanded my tastes in EDM music but I'm starting to like progressive more and more. I like making playlists of trance and progressive even if Winamp does a crappy job of beat matching. I just like the fact that progressive slows things down and trance then picks things up again. A mix of slower and faster stuff.
