First CD I ever bought was The Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation, but I didn't start buying vinyl until last year with Dave Gahan - Dirty Sticky Floors (2X12")

first store I went into after buying turntables, asked for uplifting stuff and they gave me a pile of crap, I felt I had to buy something after spending an hour listening to their records. Best thing about it now is how thicnk and solid the vinyl is, still rarely gets out of the box.
