thnx pat, need one for my friend, shes coming back to visit in a few days and doesnt have ID

as for that ta party, i dont think the WAY to get it all organized will not be a problem, the main concern is prolly the place for it. i mean, most of you guys here are dj's and we all have good tunes to spin, and like pat said there shouldnt be a prob with getting ppl to come; its the location that will be a bit of a prob to find, and most probably to pay for, unles we find someone nice with some space to offer for free

Posted by jesten on Aug-07-2001 16:31:

I have some ideas. But It really depends on how big you guys wanna go with this. I am behind this idea 100%. We could rent a hall or maybe go old school like in a wharehouse. There are alot of factors to decide, money a major one. The bigger the venue the bigger the sound system we will need, we could go cheesey on the lights. I might have some connections for this. If everyone that wants to get involved is really serious, we all should hook up.

Posted by apri_peel on Aug-07-2001 20:52:

how about we first see who's willing to go thru with this, cause if there will be very few ppl it will be a lil togh to pull it off
so lets see a show of hands

Hello!

Definetly, been thinkin about it all day.

Hello!

oh yea

Posted by jesten on Aug-08-2001 02:56:

Check out www.masterplanproductions.com they have some decent prices on sound and lighting packages. Maybe they can knock off some of the prices if we supply our own turntables and mixer. Between all of us I think we could come up with a decent set-up. I have 1200's and a cheap(but decent) Stanton RM-3 mixer. Now for a venue a hall should be good enough, problem is renting one in say Van, would be alot more expensive than one in the suburbs, but I will research this. We will also need security for party crashers or whatever, so ask your biggest friends. In order to not get busted we would have to inform the police and the city of what is going on, because some citys don't like 'parties', the last thing we would want is for one of us spinnin a phat set and the police shutting it down. The people who would come to this party would be friends and acquaintances, so there will be no reason to promote this event, not many people would come see a bunch of DJ's they have never heard of. But if we all bring at least 10 friends we could do a pretty good jod filling the place up.

Well I don't want to take up anymore space, but thats some ideas off the top of my head. Peace!!!

Posted by .montecarlo. on Aug-08-2001 03:12:

i know a couple big dudes that are into trance and parties, maybe i can convince them to come and do security, still need others too tho.

Posted by jesten on Aug-08-2001 03:39:

I know a couple too, plus i ain't that small myself.

Posted by Morphalo on Aug-08-2001 07:40:

Cool alright !

ok people,
If you are up to this I know few pretty big warehouses in Burnaby and one small place in north Van but its kind of expecive to rent
its after hours place and is good for about 150 people
assuming we wouldnt be bringing more than that
and yeah masterplan is the way to go for lights and sound cause I know my friend rented stuff from them when he was throwing parties
I'll ask him if he wants to help out cause he has money
but I can tell you right now its not gonna be a joke putting up even the smallest event, cause I know when I was planning one with this buddy, man, figure jumped to $3000 in no time
we just counted for some lights and not so many speakers
scafold for decks and rent of the place
so its gonna take quite bit of work and money
I also remembered that one can rent a club for a night to throw party for one or other reason (Richards on Richards did this for some slavic parties)
so we can look into that option ha ?
patticus you said you live on UBC as much as I recall, so did you ever go to Pit ? or whatever is the name of that bar-club joint over there
if thats any good, we could maybe ask for some playin over there
it would be great
but no liquor offcourse cause underage people will be there

and yes I agree John 00 Fleming is underrated on this board, he is the genius hehehehe

but anyhow, I dont what to discourage anybody, this is the most wonderful idea that I could have come across, and I have been dreaming about this for long time, to turn Van into real trance place but even small project like this for local buddies gonna take some serious planning
oh yes and let me tell you that I am broke right now so finnacialy I am useless
ok enough now, hit me with what you got

hahaaha, some great ideas thrown around here but im not very intimidating, personally... i top out at 5'9" on a good day, 155 lbs
LOL

anyways morphalo that was the longest damn post ive seen in a vancouver thread, but i agree with every bit.... LOL slavic parties (im not just perfect, im serb too )
i believe you NEED security or else police will shut it down. maybe even a permit, unless its in like a community center hall. which IS an idea..? if we keep it real quiet, like in a warehouse, should be no need. i doubt the Pit Pub in ubc will work, im underage too, but i'll head down and ask how much it costs for a night.
so it looks like "all" we really need is lights and sound, and a venue haha. decks and mixer etc. is no problem. BYOV. hehe
hopefully we wont have to throw it in like chilliwack or somethin, vancouver would be awesome for getting ppl to come..

unfortunately im fucked for cash right now too.. we could do fund-raising? somehow (?????) more ideas needed, good start guys

Posted by apri_peel on Aug-08-2001 10:25:

i know a few big guys too, so looks like security wont be a prob
as for $$, maybe if we charge our 'guests' a small ticket price, we would be able to cover at least part of the expenses.
fund raising sounds interesting, when do we start selling chocolates? j/j
also, i remember my school dances were done by master plan, and from what ive heard, theyve good on rates. and some of you prolly heard of youth week, anyways, we had another production company do a dance for us for a 'fare' fee. they were cheaper for us, and they are a bit better than master plan. ill try and talk to the girl who knows the guy from that company.
just so you know right away, you cant do a dance in new west, unles you wanna do it in queensborough or you wanna call it a 'concert'
ill talk to some ppl that might be able to help us with the location, but now im going to sleep =)

btw, dont count on me helping with security, im kinda small

Posted by Morphalo on Aug-08-2001 17:20:

yeah lets do it New West in queensborough park
there is like a little outdoor stage anyway, I always wanted to make an open air thing like some big events in europe
that would be cool, it would be close so I wouldnt have to drive
spanish cultural centre is out of the question cause its way too lame...

I'll bring my pile of illegal CD's and piece of shit players
so I'll be your CD DJ, just so we have diversity
how old are you patticus, if you are at least 18 should be alright its close enough...
and apri_peel sounds perfect for the door she will be bouncing off bad ladies that are trying to crash the party
so we have more than enough security I think
just some cheap ass venue and some sound and lights and we are happening
any of you went to APEX ?

I don't think an outdoor venue would be a very good idea, I still think a hall is the best way. You could just tell the city that you are throwing a private birthday party with music and dancing. outdoor party you would need permits and shit plus there is alot less control of the party. The party must be in control at all times, because it will reflect poorly on the promoter. I also don't think the party will be that big anyway because I dought people will want to see a bunch of DJ's playing their first big party. (I shouldn't speak for everybody, but a played a couple of house parties but thats it)Or maybe we should advertise Dumonde to be there, he he

Posted by apri_peel on Aug-09-2001 08:38:

oh yeah, bring it down to new west baby
i know ppl who work at the city hall, pull a few strings here, a coupla there, and what do you know, weve got a party hehe j/k
on the serious side, i think if we do something in new west and call it a private bday party, there shouldnt be a prob, in fact, renting a place shouldnt be as expensive as for example bby or vancouver.
at first i was kinda thinking of the high school's gym, but we prolly wont be able to stay there too long; or theres also arenex, or the youth center.
sorry guys i dont really know van so i cant suggest a lot

Posted by dasun on Aug-09-2001 09:16:

Ok...it really seems like we got somthing rolling here.

I know some big guyz 2, We got gear and music.

I think that renting a hall would be a good idea. Usualy they have lights already set in most halls...and speakers are usualy their 2. So if we look for a hall like that, we would be set rite? We might need a few more lights and maybe a extra pair of speakers to bring it 2gether but other than that we would be fine...no need for permits etc... whad u think?

Posted by jesten on Aug-10-2001 00:08:

A hall in New West, sounds good to me.

Posted by Prism on Aug-10-2001 04:24:

Satan (eek!)

in New West??
Cool!!! Close to me...

Posted by Morphalo on Aug-10-2001 06:56:

Cool hehehe

people, people...
there is quite few of us in New West here ha ?
nice !
I say, we find some nice hall here and make the earth shake
we could make one down there in Paramount on Columbia st.
we rent the place for the night but leave the strippers inside to add to the atmosphere

but seriously, I dont know any places in N. West available for such an event...

Posted by patticus on Aug-10-2001 08:24:

well if we need some extra speakers i have some decent ones (a couple)

nothing rich tho, haha

they're like 3 feet tall

You are completely right apri_peel, let's try to be serious here. But I do love strippers.
