There are a TON of grammy awards given out that you never hear about on TV or in press...including some that involve EDM areas...

Deep Dish won one in 2002 for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical in "Dido - Thank You (Deep Dish Vocal Remix) "

Roger Sanchez won in 2001 for the same award with No Doubt - Hella Good (Roger Sanchez Remix Main)

Not sure if Timo won this year, but he was nominated in the same are for Tori Amos - "Don't Make Me Come to Vegas
(Timo on Tori)"

You have a point there, Dance music has been around since the 70s and its deserves its own catagory even if it had cheesey type of dance music.

As has been said, there was a dance award, it went to kylie, it just wasn't broadcast...

And i agree with spinstar, whoever said it would promote drug use...grow a brain please

Because it's completely against the origins of edm: it wasn't about God-DJ's or the most skilled producers. This bastardised side of EDM is part of pop culture, which influenced edm in the latter half of the 90's.

Sincerely, instead of having the grammies, we should stop having that 100 top DJ's polls and avoid creating "icons".

So what im saying its just a matter of time before they get the reconition & have thier own Grammy catagory

So that would mean seeing PvD, Ferry, or AvB spinning their 'best dance remix record of the year' nominated tune?

The grammy's is all about entertainment. With trance/EDM you really can't convey that sort of entertainment to the masses (unless they open up the stage as a dance floor )

Besides, who would want to hear the orchestra playing the winner of such catagory?

A live orchestra doing the breakdown to Suburban Train or Airwave or any other epic trance songs with string-based breakdowns would sound sick, you know it!

Posted by SuperFarStucker on Feb-12-2004 17:57:

well to be honest I was hoping for a dead orchestra, it would be much more interesting you know...

Posted by th0m on Feb-12-2004 19:55:

And why exactly would edm want to be affiliated with the commercial crap the Grammy's encourage?

Its not like there are nominations for classical music either, the Grammy's are purely for commercial music for the masses.

its no wonder beyonce won so much considering she is ALL they play over here on both the radio and mtv.

that's called payola. get used to it if you ever want to watch MTV or listen to most radio.

I think trance is best as a non-mainstream style, I wouldn't wanna see my favourite producers being nominated for Grammies.

Actually, there are categories for classical music. They just don't air it cuz it would bore the hell out of the tv audience.

what pisses me off more then anything is that they recognize country music and even have presenters to award a bunch of no name talentless country singers i've never even heard of yet they can't do the same for dance. Country music is not exactly mainstream either so the idea that dance music doesn't get enough media coverage is no excuse. and if its true that dance music does have a category it deserves more then just being 1 of those offhand awards that they give on the side and don't even bother to make presenters for. It just irks me that they can have 1 or 2 entertainers like beyonce and outkast monopolize the whole awards show when there are so many genres of music out there. When i saw that photo op of beyonce holding the 5 grammies i was so disgusted that first of all why she is even nominated in so many different categories of music. I know things would change if mainstream media such as mtv would get their acts together and allow more dance videos to be played on their channel but they continue to follow the same stupid formula. They should be playing oakenfold's ready steady go or hypnotize at least. And yeah i used to be the same way just keep trance music underground and exclusive so nobody will know about it. But at the same time i want to see trance music do well and the more people who become aware of it and catch onto its potential the more it can grow and survive and flourish. more people will want to become trance producers, djs etc. and can continue to revolutionize it. Yet if it continues to stay underground and nobody knows about it how worried are you about trance's future?

Just say no to grammy's.
They'll ruin a good thing.

Eh?

From what I understand the Grammies have had a dance category for quite a long time now. That being said, none of the stuff is actually non-cheese EDM, and some of it is just plain old pop music. Somehow I don't think we have anything to worry about, let them have their cheese.

Keep trance away from the mainstream!
Look at what happens!!! You get shitty music producers like Benny BenASSY making really boring, lame tracks, complete with rap-like music videos of nothing but girl's asses. The videos don't even support the scene for fear of supporting the drugs that seem to follow dance music. And ecstacy just isn't cool like weed and coke are.

haha

I've been known to do the old speed post now and then, but I soon realized that I invariably ended up saying something really, really stupid every time. No more speed posting for me.

I can't speak for other countries but americans who like edm REALLY like it. We (americans) had to go against the grain and find edm ourselves.

you make it sound that americans are the only one who have to search hard for EDM!?!?

Think about the people who live in China (EDM is big in the big cities in China), they can't even buy anything EDM.

Aye, sorry to break it to you, but except for one or two European countries, it's exactly the same everywhere else.

What gets me is Rap music is favoured and it lyrics which is half the cause of crime, (example) I was given a free ticket to see a open air Jay Z concert by my brother who lives by this music, personally I can't stand it but thought the ticket was 35 squid and had nothing better to do, well if i knew what was to be in store then I would have never of said yes, Apart from being hit by flying bottles in the head, one cutting a friends head open, you cant talk to no one or you get done over, you cant look at anyone or you get attitude, and if your not wearing the right clothes you dont fit in?!?!? Apart from being started on twice MY WORD we favour this music over Trance Events where I we make more friends than I ever did at school/college/work.....

No way. I dont want America to get a hold of trance and turn it MAINSTREAM.

America is probably the biggest trend setter to the rest of the world and i deffo wont want to see 12 year old kids banging to trance and asking whats the "age limit" to go clubbing.

Then you'll see 15-18 year kid wannabes wanting to learn how to beatmatch and play stupid tunes that just makes you wanna puke.

Besides.. America doesnt consider "trance" real "music".

why do u want trance at an awards show? it would just make it to commercial
