3 was never officially released in America... there's been an underground fan translation by Alex W Jackson a few years ago. It's such a good game, though definitely shows its age compared to the newer FFs. It's straight up, no bullshit RPG gameplay.
Oh yeah, there is NO way to revive Aeris in FF7, US or Japan. There were a few changes to the US version, like they added in the 2 Weapons and I think sped up the minigames or something. And Aerith was her Japanese name, they mistranslated it as Aeris in the US version. But nothing really too significant... not as significant as the changes between Japanese FF4 and US FF2.

It is a sequel to FFVII, but look to only be in movie format.

Gotta be VII since that's the one that really started to get me into rpgs, but x and x-2 are pretty close behind it.

FF1 US AND JAPAN = SAME
FF2 US = FF3 JAPAN
FF2 JAPAN = DOESN'T EXIST IN US (CAN PLAY ON ANTHOLOGY ACTUALLY - SUX HARDCORE)
FF3 US = FF6 JAPAN
FF4 JAPAN ONLY RELEASE
FF5 JAPAN ONLY RELEASE
then everything was synced back up again.
final fantasy 2,3,7,10 are the highlights of the series IMO. None of them are particularly stronger than the other although they get increasingly more complex as technology increases (go figure). Not only in appearance but in depth as well.
Word is if you hack aeris back into your game using a gameshark/savegame hacking you will see that she still has script in the game unique to her all the way to the end (although there are some unfinished parts whcih will cause teh game to crash while playing with her). You were supposed to be able to revive her but they were more concerned with releasing the game then bringing back a retarded character - so it didn't make it in prior to release
FF rpgs bother me though. After FF1 (and excluding stuff like tactics etc.) they are more like interactive story books than video games. Few challenges - if any exist in the game; it's just one massive timesink. I guess that could be said about all video games though...
I think breath of fire 3 and secret of mana are the best rpgs to ever exist. Somewhat challenging gameplay coupled with compelling story lines.

FFVII... no doubt about it.
SuperFarStucker, actually it goes something like this:
FF1 Japan (Famicom) = FF1 US (NES)
FF2 Japan (Famicom) = Not Released (later released on FF Origins on PSX)
FF3 Japan (Famicom) = no US release, unfortunately
FF4 Japan (SFC) = Released on FF Collection on PSX
FF4 Easytype Japan SFC) = FF2 US (Super NES)
FF5 Japan (SFC) = No US SNES release, later released on FF Anthology (PSX)
FF6 Japan (SFC) = FF3 US (Super NES)
From 7 onward, the game's US and Japanese names are the same.
Yeah, it's confusing as hell.
FFVII by far...had the best storyline, soundtrack, gameplay imo. FFIV, which i believe came out in FF Chronicles for the PSX which included Chrono Trigger as well, is also very good despite the graphics...likewise had one of teh best plots of the series imo

FFIV = FF2 US, so i vote for FFIV as it was the most kick ass FF game ever. screw flashy 3d colors.

Originally posted by AlphaStarred not everyone dies in the end...remember Red XIII and his children after the credits...and since Cloud is in the movie (which supposedly takes place 2 years after the game) obviously they had not died

Originally posted by AlphaStarred obviously Midgar is in shambles...but what you say after is absurd since you just contradicted yourself..if "everyone but the animals die" then why would they show Red XIII and Cloud afterwards?! plus in the movie sample of Advent Children, they show Barrett and Vincent (although those may be flashbacks, not certain yet)
ff9 for me.

Originally posted by Djs-storm Well it was kind of strange but there was that caption that said something like "xxxx years later", then they showed Red XIII and his family. So what happens in between those times? Maybe this movie will tell

also, i'm willing to bet that at least 12 of the 14 people that voted for FFVII had never played a final fantasy before that. it really doesnt make sense for someone who had played 4, 5, or 6 to like 7 beter than any of those three.
