there is alot of good kicks out there, if they were all the same it would suck too. Certian kicks fit tracks better than others.

Yeah, I often wonder if it's actually the kick that people like, or if it's that they think that they like it but it's more the context of the kick and how it fit's than it is the kick alone.

I came to this forum to learn something and not fight with you. Your 'get lost' attitude does not help people that would like to discuss things or find better solutions to their common problems. There is no need for you to be rude.
I truly wish that you get good results from your next possible purchase of the card in question and get recognized for your work.
Cheers
P.S.
Nobody will stop me from expressing my opinion or discussing topics of interest on this forum...

Marco V has some nice, hard kicks. Although the rest of his tracks aren't always star quality. o.O

mauro picotto has some of the best kicks, his percussions are all good, anybody knows how to get his sound ?

How about..

Born Slippy! That kick pretty much makes the track....

Posted by Dras on Feb-22-2004 20:37:

the UAD-1 is really good I think....the guy who wrote the review of it and didnt like it....he compared it too the hardware versions...

And he says you should go for the Waves plugins....then he really is missing out on the POINT....cause you do not get a CPU loaded card with the waves fx....

And did he compare the waves fx to his hardware mackie fx?

the UAD-1 rocks...though, you might need 2 cards....1 card is not enough!

Could also check out the TC-Powercore!

Cheers

Dreas

hey Dreas, first let me congradulate you on Havannah. Nice Track. Little different from morning snow/sonic rush but very sweet. That review was horrible I have only heard good things about the uad-1. It limited in the amount of plugins u can use which is the only complaint. A few pultecs and 1176ln's and the card is on overload, but there are ways around it like bouncing tracks. yeah the powercore is great, i plan on getting both

That seems like plenty to me. All I want mainly is the 1176 and Pultec.

I have just ordered the UAD-1 as I have heard quite a few good reviews on them (more good than bad). I have also ordered the Cambridge EQ. And two quality trance producers use them...mmmmmmm...can't be bad.

If it's that good I may stick another in there (plus a Virus TI)

I like Flutlicht's kicks. Sharp and powerfull.

marco v, british murder boys (surgeon & regis)

Yup, the UAD1 is surely nice, especially if you want that "vintage" sound. Of course, compared to the real stuff (which 80% will probably never be able to listen to in comparison) it gets in the ballpark, but doesn't get it 100%. So what. It still kicks the a** of most native plugins, and for that price you can't get even one of those emulated effects in it's hardware form.

TC Powercore is very nice to. Here it's more bread and butter plugins, they don't have that "special" character the UAD comps and EQ's have. But, and one big but, the reverb on the TC is superb. It's M5000 stuff, and if you've already heard that one, you can't say it's bad (ok some people prefer the Lexicon sound, but you need to go to the very pricy Lexicon stuff (480/960 like) to get near). The UAD1 reverbs are nice, but they don't come near the PoCo reverbs. Some people say the new Plate 140 is coming close right now, but I've personally not been able to hear it, so I won't comment on it.
One nice plugin pack also, is the Sony Oxford pack, especially the EQ. Very expensive, but VERY good.

So eventually, I think the best choice would still be to get them both. Each DSP card has it's good and bad points. But one fact still remains, it's not because you got awesome gear that your songs will be awesome too. It's still the one using it that is the limiting factor.

To stay on topic, the best kick is the one that fits the tune. But if I have to give one example, it would be Oliver Lieb. His kicks always have something unique. LSG - Hidden Sun Of Venus (Oliver Lieb mix especially) has a very good one.

one kick that struck me recently was the one in J00F's Dame Blanche Remix. quite powerful, to say the least
