Don't try and tell me that any Joe blogs with the same set of records would put on a set just as good as Armin did.

why not? essentially all he did was play records right? If armin had done nothing production wise would he have the profile?

I wasn't meaning joe bloggs per se but say your fav local trance dj. Ok we say mangler as example or steve strangis. (only picked you guys cause you can mix and do dj stuff)

Posted by Mangler on Feb-20-2004 01:51:

Dr P .. thanx for throwing us in the deep end.. the sharks are coming & i cant swim

Posted by JulesPLees on Feb-20-2004 01:55:

But he does produce...and so I guess he kinda deserves it (same arguement as the other night)
I mean you go to a 5am or to Viper or wherever and you hear these traxx you love...the thing is...most of em are made by ferry, armin, tiesto, pvd, j00f etc.
Personally Armin aint my cup o tea (although his tracklisting from the last tour looked ok)...but its better guys like him who produce the stuff getting the wraps.
Having said that, try something new...go out and support your local DJ's...the internationals are just locals from somewhere else that got on a PLane.

The trance scene has been taken over by hard trance no?

What was essentialy a trance nite years ago in Bassstation has turned into NRG. Why? Cause Mr. Midro is a smart man. Its what the punters wanted its what hes gonna give him. This is prolly the reason why midro packs out palace every fri nite and is succesful. Unlike many djs he's willing to sacrifice hiss true style ( and only god knwos what that is :P).

I think what melbourne needs is Gatecrasher @ dox one final time with the best in the trance world playing. The emotion, the roar, the passion of the lion under one roof with 10000 of your best mates. I can only dream

Yeh you should support local nites, i mean even 5am is trying to create a brand name. Get it hip like bassstation and watch it flourish. The difficult bit is bassstation took ages to get its brand name correct, but had the ability to use the most well known djs in melbourne making it much easier. Hence 5am's difficulty, Mangler gives the bedrooms djs a go to make themselves into stars. In that mix there might be a midro or a KAOS waiting and in 1 or 2 years if 5am can hold on you could see 5am packing out palace or chasers or warehouse.

So dont give up everyone If you really love your music and clubbing culture, keep persisting cause hard work at the end of the day will pay off.

ps I do support local nites, although that might not seem case on here

sorry Alb's

but even in our disscussion (whoa there go the jets again) the other night jules you had to admit he was just playing records right? (don't lie you know I have witness)

wow Paulie I thought you had sold out and were going to the pub and drinking with ya mates!!!

Posted by JulesPLees on Feb-20-2004 02:36:

yeah but the best DJ's know how to PLay rekkids...that takes experience and musical sense...and *most* internationals have both of those..

and yeah Paulie does his bit

Is Darey coming back again?!?

Posted by JulesPLees on Feb-20-2004 02:48:

Mark James, Sean Quinn, Anthony Pappa, even Kaos...but nah not midro for me...kekekek
(he does know what he's doing but)

FULL QUADROPHONIC SOUND ROCKIN AT BASS STATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Mangler on Feb-20-2004 02:50:

just dont let Julian Reynolds anywhere near the mic!
there's so many elements in making a successful night or a successful dj, and things are constantly changing & evolving.
Dr P is taking a simplistic view, and isnt that far off the mark. after all, the no.1 dj in the world doesnt even mix in key

... yes, Darey & Marcella definitely coming in the next few months.

Posted by Paulie on Feb-20-2004 02:52:

You have to admit though, we can give midro shit all we like, but in terms of midro the buisness man, there aint many smarter in the scene imo.

Posted by Sid on Feb-20-2004 02:52:

I think its all about promotion. I was thinking the other day if we were somehow able to start a monthly event by the name of GODSKITCHEN AUSTRALIA or GATECRASHER LOCAL or some name that people are extremely familiar with, then we would defintely be able to atract more people who are into trance, yet dont know where to go.

Don't get me wrong, the Halcyon boys and Josh with A night at the Icebox have thrown everything at promoting their events, yet people are still unsure of what to expect, which I still think is the major detering factor. If we are somehow able to get rights to throw a party under the name of Godskitchen, then we would defintely attract or even open some eyes to our genre. Just a thought, but I think its peoples fear of the unknown which is why the scene isn't what it should be.

Posted by Mangler on Feb-20-2004 02:53:

well, maybe Midro's bro is one of the smartest... I think S_madis is correct in as far as its about building a brand that appeals to a market. The hard part is building the brand, once its built you can do more with it & try more things.

so midro is a puppet?

i thought it was jasons work most of it anyway. Shows what i know

Posted by Dr P on Feb-20-2004 02:57:

thanks mangler.

Paulie right on the money there. If we could all run business and sell out like him it would be great (so how is unemployed life? loving mine)

Nah prolly shouldn't bag midro cause he does make it his life.

S madis that is actually good thinking. Get a brand people know and you will attract them, even people not really immersed in the scene then educate them. Then if you based it round Aust people would know what to expect in each state instead of "where do I party in (insert capital city"

Posted by Paulie on Feb-20-2004 03:00:

On brand names, whisper around town is a household brandname from UK is thinking of doing monthly events in melbourne. Im kind of hoping its only a tour though.

Posted by JulesPLees on Feb-20-2004 03:08:

you dont have to sell out to be successful...
I reckon if promotion is strong and the music is consistent..
then u know...

*whispers* if you build it...they will come.

fuck I gotta do some work today.

Posted by Paulie on Feb-20-2004 03:10:

Have a good w/e, boys/girlz.

GOtta work in half hour, and god damn its so fucken hot.

Posted by Mangler on Feb-20-2004 03:14:

i still dont understand what a sell out is??? Are Above & Beyond sell outs?.. & does it matter? (there's an echo)

I didnt say Midro was a puppet, but i'm pretty sure bro keeps it all together when farm visists are in order.

Posted by JulesPLees on Feb-20-2004 03:21:

A sellout is someone who PLay's music for the masses...not cos they love the music but because it will bring them money

ok but what if you play the same music and the masses come to you? wont you be playing music for the masses then? hence selling out?

your just pissed off cause you lost the no. 1 title!!!

Posted by JulesPLees on Feb-20-2004 03:28:

If the masses come to you...then no you are not selling out.
Your just good.

and then there is selling in...
which is the opposite to selling out...
WHat you do is PLay music for the masses at the start of your career...get a strong fanbase...then show them the stuff that you REALLY love...that no one else PLays..
re sean quinn.

edit; Im so clever

Posted by Dr P on Feb-20-2004 03:31:

but you are playing to masses as you defined a sellout??correct
