Umm not quite hypertheading is the diet coke of dual processors. Yes two logical operations can be preformed at once. But both of the cores have to share system

well obviously.. 2 processors will be faster then 1.. but it still goes faster then it would without hyper threading...

The problem with dual procesors is that most programs do not utilize them. Even if your program supports dual processing there probably wont be enough work to really see a speed increase. Unless you are doing alot of mathmeatical/scientific computations or running a server you dont need dual processing.

And by the way my computer is running dual P3 chips currently.

yes, this is why I didn't go with dual CPUs when I built my computer... I was originally going to go with 2 1.5ghz CPUs.. but got the 2.8ghz P4 800Mhz FSB instead..

it's the way they were built, the second chip doesn't get to do any work unless the first chip is 100% loaded.

i know that macs do it differently, they spread the workload evenly between the two chips.

Best bet is to do a clean install(again). That what the computer tech at the store will tell you or charge you for.

It happens you get crap installs for no good reason. Also putting in new parts no matter how innocuious will FUBAR XP. I upgraded the ram and a whole series of malfunctions sprung up.

that's not what he was talking about, but that could be a source of your problems.
