None of the specs matter. In terms of overall performance, what matters is how fast performance cars can lap a roadcourse/test track. THis takes into account acceleration, throttle response, handling characteristics, as well as braking

Just in case you kiddos don't know Mercedes-Benz is now built by chrysler. So have fun when you leave the parking lot and the whole car begins to fall apart .

*cum*

Well if you wamn to talk about aftermarket, Dinan is respectable for BMW highly respectable. RennTech and Kleeman as well for Mercedes, Barabus is always a step ahead in development and tuning.

BMW still a top developer in the terms of sports cars, but Mercedes just took it over with the Luxury and Sports combo, CL65 AMG, S65 AMG and the SL 65 AMG. the SLR is also amazing. BMW isnt doing that level of production, unless you count BMW Owned Rolls Royce, Phantom.

straight line, who gives a flying shit about straight line. whoo hoo press that gas pedal, yeah ill see you and your automatic merc anyday. and if you didnt know the E55 is 5 years older than the E39 M5 and a 10 year old chassis, wow great comparison F*****

huh are you stupid? Benz bought Chrysler... but last I checked Chrysler doesn't build Benz... if it would happen one day, it would be the other way around.

Is that why it's called Daimler-Chrysler and not Chrysler-Benz ? LOL

The car's still a Mercedes, just the parent company has changed it's name. It's quality hasn't been diminished.

Bimmers still rule the race track, though.

CLK GTR? SLR? i guess that doesnt mean anything to you BMW folk though because mercedes cant do anything right .

If you've driven both Mercedes and BMW's you'd understand that while there are a few production Mercedes that are killer on the highway, a BMW (just about any model except the old Isetta micro-car) will kill them in the twisties.

Why do you think BMW puts manual transmissions in virtually EVERY model it produces? Because they are geared towards driving enthusiasts.

I love Mercedes, especially that uber-exotic CTK-GTR which you really can't even consider a production model. I just know that BMW makes cars that are meant to be 'driven' !

Posted by getfoul on Mar-01-2004 10:12:

the one gripe i have with mercedes is that they fail to put manual tranny's with every model, but rumor has it that they are soon to be changing this. I've driven a 328is good car, but i prefer a more luxurious car with a punch.

uhm, Brabus is a tuner, so I don't think that you can compare it with an original M5.

You can comparise the M5 with any AMG-model, cause that is the official Mercedes-tuner, but Brabus isn't

thats why i threw dinan into this. Unless you wanna vote in Hamann (sp?) instead of Dinan.

I seen the BMW yesterday, it's a sexy looking car

Posted by nOX on Mar-01-2004 14:36:

well if i want that type of car I wouldnt buy mercedes or bmw. I would buy Maserati, Ferrari or a nice oldtimer.

To continu the BMW-Mercedes discussion:

My daddy drives BMW, My momma drives BMW, I drive BMW. So I would say: BMW OWNZZZZ MERCEDES BIG TIME. No serious. BMW constructed brilliant cars in the past, same story with Mercedes. In design, engine technology, driving comfort BMW and Mercedes are the leading car manufactures. The difference in BMW and Mercedes is all a matter of personal taste. My opinion is that BMW has a more classy design. The new 5,6 and 7 series are fast and aggresive looking but still they remain classy. Mercedes is in my opinion too aggressive looking.

Posted by Moongoose on Mar-01-2004 15:41:

Its long, expensive, and if you dont already have a Maybacch in your garage then the chances of getting one are below zero

Anyway i prefer BMWs over Mercedes. Both are fine cars (best on the market IMHO) however i like it that BMWs are more sport then luxury, while Mercs are more luxury than sport. I might change my mind as i get older however at the moment BMWs rock

Oh yeah one thing i hate most about mercs...WTF is it with putting only auto trannysinto top models Why would someone buy a 500HP sport car with an auto tranny If i had the money and i would be looking for a sporty sedan i would take my money to BMW...C32 AMG, E55AMG, SL55AMG ... only available with auto

Real men drive stick

-Drive By Wire-

anyone heard of this? Benz hasnt done it yet!

tuners aside, the new 5 series is a revelation in almost every sense. I prefer the older look cause it was so menacing, but the new car is likely to blow it out of the water.

oh, and the m5 has consistently been priced ~75k USD, and that isnt likely to go up much even with the new model - so i dunno why everyone is discussing 100k plus cars here.

the m5 is the only car besides a WRC-road car that can fit 4 people and still fucking hustle|

Posted by keithos27 on Mar-02-2004 01:09:
