If the plan is approved every Saturday night Icebox will play Uplifting Trance.

Which DJ's will you hear?

Diggs v Morro
Sample Gee
Cameron O'Shea
Joshua van Aalst
Scott Richardson
Muli
Stama
Animate
Rob Noble
Liquid M (Unconfirmed)
Jumping Jack (Uncomfirmed)

If you would like this to become a reality. Then the best way to do this is to show the support that Uplifting Trance has in Sydney. How can this be done? Turn up and pack out the next night at Icebox i.e. March 12th (Friday Week). We need you! Bring friends, bring family, bring mums and dads, bring pets (actually don't bring pets). Now is the time.

Thanks and I hope we pull this off as it will be a great victory for Trance in Sydney

i hope it all works well for you dude.. good on you for being persistant and having a go!

will be coming friday night to hear some choonz and to catch up with some of you guys..

ok I plan to come along with a few friends hopefully

as an aside, how the hell does the Icebox make any money?

I'm guessing most nights only about 100 people pass through the door. Assuming they rely on the bar to make money and promoter takes what they get on the door, all the nights I've been there there are very few people buying drinks

Posted by bassaholix on Mar-04-2004 21:33:

Hey Joshua...

hope all goes well... the name doesn't sound too bad.. dun worry its your nite so you can call it watever the hell you want it to call.

I hope to be coming along and ill bring friends if they can make it.

Hope to be a blast

Hi,

Just a couple of quick responses to things mentioned:

1) The name

I have read and understand the feedback about the name. Here are the reasons for the name:

Basically leveraging off pervious branding that has been built up over the last 8 months. Creating a new brand takes alot of time and money, and i mean alot around $5000 bare minimum. I would rather use that time and money to improve the brand we have so we can target more people and to provide more and better services. Rather than try and re brand from scratch.

The current brand and DJ's are still relatively unknown to the wider public. We need people to know what the night is about and that couldn't be said more simply than: "A Night Of Trance". This is also the reason why the DJ's have descriptions of music style afterwards i.e. energetic, uplifting e.t.c. As someone pointed out only 1% of people might know and like Trance, as another pointed out 1% is enough. Finally it's far better to have a name that one percent of people can recognise what it is about, than have a new brand name that no one can.

Finally the name will most likely change in the future. Once the funds are available then we will probably merge the name into something else, the beauty of this is we do not have to do too much re branding. As Muli said in a previous thread something like:

XXXXXX....A Night Of Trance

where XXXXXX is the name of the night

2) How does Icebox make money?

The situation i and the crew are in is unusual at Icebox. Normally Icebox gets takings from the bar and also something from the door (therefore they only need about 80 odd people there to break even. Thrusdays they normally get around 170). The promotor gets the rest (very little). I am paying Icebox a large sum to hire the club each time. What this means is that i can charge the bare minimum on the door. i.e. $5 before 11pm. Normally Icebox is $10 to $15 entry. The reason for this is that i strongly believe in making great Trance music accessible to all i.e. Students. Even if it means running the night at a break even point.

Finally: Lets forget about the small things. The big picture is that you the community have asked for quality Trance nights in Sydney. Regular reliable nights where we can go and hear great Trance music and hang out with friends. Here is one such night and we need your support. Together we stand divided we fall

thanks so far for the support!

Now if the above does not click in to then i m sorry you don't deserve to be posting, or in fact reading in tranceaddict forums...

Lets face it ppl, if we dun show support wats the use?

Im with Joshua 10000001%

Posted by muli on Mar-05-2004 03:04:

agree josh!

No wonder nights are not successful, people complain before they even get off the ground

I will be playing my heart out for this one, really got some wicked tunes that i think will kick the night off into a frenzy. Im going for the quality lesser know tracks mixed with some anthems

Steve Strangis has been added to the line up

Posted by Slade on Mar-05-2004 13:54:

Progressive gets a bit of a following in Sydney, ie the Sweetchilli crew,

perhaps some versus nights might be in order?

those are the djs im interested in hearing, most of em already have already established a name and thats what you need to work with.

Posted by starsurfer on Mar-07-2004 01:13:

excellent post josh.

Muli, I'm totally looking forward to your set man. Only heard good things with your set downloads, and me being a prog fan, bring it on I say!

Just word to everyone else.. get there for Muli' set at 9PM

with regards the name 'a night of trance', I can assure you it works better than something fancy. It has been proven by other nights, that having a cool name does not get you far, unless you are a huge and well known brand already. Josh's night needs something that the masses will understand.

Scottie

Posted by muli on Mar-07-2004 05:07:

Cheers scottie, can't wait to play

Depending on crowd numbers will depend on what i play, will start off proggy but if the room is filling quick i might venture into the trance more quickly

Dog Running

Sounds cool, see you guys there.
