nah it was 'born sloppy', the bootleg of underworld vs plump dj's mix of elektronauts.

without a doubt lucien was the highlight of my TT and if someone had told me that at the beginning of the nite, i would have punched them in the back of the head... it was the most pleasant surprise to have enjoyed him so much.

a close second goes to vitalic with pretty much all the stuff people expected to hear but the live experience was just that much more exhilirating.

honourable mentions to nubreed, julie reynolds and the closers in the handbag room, always nice to have 100 sketchy people tryin to sing along to somethin "iiiii feeelllll it deeeppp insidddeee meeee, ii wwaaannna riddde iit..."

kinda disappointed not to get to see any of the vodafone room acts but it was mainly due to the absurdity of how packed it was. i liken it to that exodus to mecca or whatever that ritual is, it was like a sea of people, half of which had no shirts on and the other half were glowing. yay.

all and all a so-so nite, only got lucien and my mates to thank for makin it so much more than it could have been.

are you sure you're not thinking of the grand prix?

ummm yeh the treble was a bit high but not too bad considering at least i actually got to bust some moves, unlike the vodafone arena. you shoulda seen me once i got out of there, i felt like kevin bacon in footloose, i needed to get my groove on... and lucien was to be my saviour.

*me sings i'm holding out for a hero, i need a hero til the end of the night...*

Blah. I'm just gonna cut & paste what I wrote in anotherforum.com.au

Here 'tis:

What a difference a year makes.

Or.

Where the fuck did my night go?

TT is always fun on some sort of level. It attracts one of the most varied, weird, funny and fucked up crowds I have ever seen. Not that is such a bad thing on its own, but it does get disconcerting when you become accustomed to people hacking up their dinner and then bouncing off to do some more dancing. Hey, at least they made it to the bin. The sheer size and scale of the event is always impressive. The amount of people you see throughout the night, and the fact you can actually find anyone that you know always adds an interesting angle to the nights proceedings.

Right, so, my night. Headed on down into town around 10ish. Have no idea why we decided to cruise on in so early, something about NuBreed and their ability to play well, or something. Upon arrival, proceeded directly to Rod Laver arena. Of course, at this early stage hassles regarding entry to the dance floor were non-existent. To those that were clued in, the opposite side of RLA to the general entry/exit areas made for easy acess to seating/toilets and the outside in general without compromising ones ability to re-enter the dance floor at a later stage. Was rather funny seeing the queues of people wanting to enter the dance floor. It was quite clear, throughout most of the evening that the floor was not exactly packed. Bah, didn't really bother me anyway.

Oh right, the music. the last 15 mins or so of Mr. Taylor's set were quite nice. Easy way of easing oneself into the mindset... or something. Also provided myself with my first trainspot; Alex Dolby - Hazy Way. Of course NuBreed jumped on and played pretty much what I expected of them, which is not a bad thing. Walking outside coz friends wanted a smoke, we bumped into our first truly fucked up person of the evening. Quick glance at the time, 10:30pm. Now, to some, 10:30pm is way too early in the evening, but no, some indend to write themselves off as quick as they can. Funny and slightly sad at the same time. From this came more conversations with more fucked up people, this time on alcohol alone. But hey, when you can't actually walk and still manage to smuggle in a bottle of Vodka, respect is still paid.

Oh shit, Hybrid's about to jump on. Quick excuses were made. "Gotta catch Hybrid." Announced Wasted_Space. "Oh, we're so over techno." Replied the little drunkies. "You've come to the wrong event then." A bemused 'Space said, shaking his head and walking away... slowly.

Ah, Hybrid. Their opening track. Beautiful. No, wait. Fucking awesome! Built nicely and when the bassline opened up and added the deep kick, fark. This was some good shit. All I need now is a track ID. Vocals:

Four on the floor I was sure,
That you would be my girl,
We'd have our little world,
We'd have a little girl,

There was a second verse, but I can't remember it. Took me awhile to piece those lyrics together anyway. That track was shortly followed with Space Manouvres, part 3, was wanting the main mix, alas no, this was simply the breaks mix. From there Hybrid proceeded to take the set into a sort of banging breaks territory, which was bad, but fuck, I just knew that every fucking Dj would want to 'bang' it out.

So we enter BT territory. The man has a great stage presence and built quite the vibe. A very nice party set, filled with many identifiable tracks and some lovely bootlegs/remix's of other genres (...are you gonna go my way?). Yeah, I'm a sucker for that shit. If its done well, which it was, so I was. Er... Anyway, it was a crankin' set until the sudden 'power outage'/'tripping on the power cord'/'Oh shit, my computer froze'. From then on came a large piano solo which seemed to drag on and on and on. Bah, time to move off and meetup with more people.

Great to catch up with ppl, some I hadn't seen in a year. Sitting in the stadium seating was great. Being able to be a part of the vibe without all that useless standing up/using your legs crap. Now, what? Ah yes, Chris Lawrence. Now, when I last heard a set of his, it was 2002, and I quite enjoyed what he played. But that was then, and this is now. Within 10 minutes I knew that I wasn't gonna like his set, totally not my style and totally ground against the vibe that was successfully built up by the likes of BT and Hybrid. Most of the crowd, either eager for a breather or simply hating the music now pouring out the speakers, were leaving in droves. It killed the atmosphere and any sense of 'oh my god, this party is rocking'. From here on in, Rod Laver arena had seen better days. So, seeing a quite full dance floor dissipate to around 50% made 'walkies' seem oh so much better. Didn't walk that far, crashed in the company of mates and more randoms, which allowed for some great entertainment (people hallucinating are piss funny to watch).

More walking, more chatting. Then, as if we wanted to attempt to get out money's worth a decision was made to move off and trek down to the Vodaphone arena to satisfy the Kandy Kid in all of us. The trek over alerted me to the fact that FUCK there were a lot of people here. This was compounded as one attempted to make ones way to the Vodaphone arena floor. Holy Crap thats a lotta people. Well, needless to say, I got to the floor, ignoring the thick accented Fergie yell all sorts of 'Pump the Fuck up' profanities at us whilst the sirens and looped beat and white noise build up bored deep into my skull and proceeded to send me sideways. I hated that shite. But many people didn't, it seemed. Good on 'em.

5am was rapidly approaching and I became eager to hear what Lucien had in stock for us, this, I was hoping would top the night off rather well. Again, about 20 minutes in and all that there was was big bass, big synth and techy shit thrown every which way. Fuck, all I wanted was a groove. None of that. So I took solice in the fact that perhaps he will move the sound onwards to hold a very nice closing set. But it was all a rouge. Everytime a lush sounding synth or groove took hold, I thought, ah yes, here we go. Only to be followed up with more Techy McTech and a bang bang bang we go. Urgh.

Whilst on previous occaisons I have thouroughly enjoyed Lucien's set, this time 'round I was a bored little Space Waster. But he did play that Four to the floor.. track again, which I loved... I need to get that track. So, in that sense I was really disappointed that Futureshock didn't play. Bored, battered and bruised, it was time to get home. Many people had the same idea, although some should've gone home much much earlier.

Scattered raver: "Man, whats with all the slippery floor?"
Wasted_Space (thinking): "Its called rain, it falls from the sky... you're an idiot."

A brisk walk in the morning rain, stopping once in awhile to stare at the ambulances and after a 15 minute wait, our ordered cab arrived and sent us home. Lots of sleep later, yeah, good night.

Bring on next year? Yeah, thank god its only once a year.

... There ya go, found that track I was after as well. Play it loud. It rocks.
