I personally use and like mixvibes pro 3.0 and above. I have used tracktor, vtt, bpm studio, and many others. One thing that you should want from an mp3 mixer should be responsiveness,,, and make sure that it reacts precise as opposed to choppy. I have learned to mix very well with the program that I use, expect that to be the same case with you. Eventually, you should learn to master that program with enough practice. I have noticed that each program has its advantages and disadvantages. For instance, vtt has that great feature where you only need a 2 dollar adapter and one sound card to properly mix,,, but you will only hear everything in mono. Some of the disadvantages with vtt are the amount of mixers (only two), and the lack of reaction time when hitting the mouse. Some people gave mixvibes low ratings, because it's sometimes intimidating design and features. I don't care,,, it just takes a little time to learn the program, and in the end it pays off.

VTT -- use only if you have one sound card -- even if you have only one, I dont recommend that program. I personally think it sucks compared to others.

Tracktor -- Just seems and feels like cheese. I can't put my finger on what this program has that I don't like ---- Maybe is the lack of mixers,, no balance control, etc. But just feels unstable and is not as responsive as mixvibes pro. I personally don't think it actually emulates real dual cd decks,, and has too much of a cartoon interface.

BPM studio pro --- Great program,, lots of features, but takes up way too many resources. I have 320mb of sdram w a 750mhz CPU and my machine had problems while I was looping and recording. This program lets mix straight out of your cd player, because it supports .cda format. But it only has a limit of two mixers and no balance control.

Mixvibes pro -- My favorite. It is stable, responsive,, everything is in real-time. You have up to 16 mixers to work with,, supports up to 4 sound cards, Has on the fly 6 cue points per song, bass mid treble controls, scratching, looping, works with sampling programs, lets you sample, works with midi, balance control, auto bpm (which I don't use), Id3 tag editing on mp3s, wave visualization, doesn't take up to many resources, allows you to record and edit your work, allows you to record in wave or mp3 at different bit rates and it will let you create a cue sheet for your mix. Has different skins in case you don't like the current one. This program is definetely the most realistic that I have used. Don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself.

Hey thx for the reviews m8
I think ill check Mixvibes out!

Re: Mixvibes pro is the way to go!

I'd like to adress some of the things you said about VTT here.

First, you mentioned it's "lack of responsiveness to the mouse". I've used this program for nearly 3 years now, and I dont know what you're talking about. You might be talking about how it does functions on button-down-up stages, rather than button-down stages. VTT is very responsive for me, espiecially when you use the keyboard shortcuts to start/stop/pause a track. The only thing which isn't as responsive, is the EQ (has a slight buffer delay)... a problem i'll get around when i get an external mixer.

Second, you mentioned it can "only handle 2 mixers". VTT can handle up to three players, should you ever find the need for it. If you look at the mixing console, there is a third fader for it. It's just not obvious because you need to open another mp3 file to open the third player. The crossfader/cue can be configured to use any of the three channels from there.

Third, you make it seem like the stereo splitter was the only way to get a headphone cue. VTT does support multi-soundcard setups, so you can use a secondary soundcard for headphone cueing. Hect, you can use three soundcards (one for each player) and hook them all into an external mixer.

10x buchato !

gona download vibes now...

Hello! Love VTT: Your dj'ing program

In VTT, If you set the buffer under 1000 or more, you should see an increase in responsive in EQ.

And i still think VTT is by far the most established djing program.

Hey sportsline, why dont u just use the pitch adjustment to get the bpms matched perfectly yourself? I mean thats what i do.And we all do it with decks right?
I would never use automated beatmatching, keep your ear in shape, thats what i say.

Heheh, everyone's telling me NOT to use the Autosync feature in the first place... lol...... i don't want to.

But sometimes i make a mix for my little sister or a friend who likes trance i don't like.... i dont want to sit there and mix it.. i'll just put the tracklist up and do AUTOSYNC and auto x-fade... THATS what i use it for.

and no, it doesn't happen on JUST two songs... it'll happen on ANY song i EVER try to use it on, doesn't matter which song. weird, huh? oh well, i guess its back to basics!

(Any way to use any of these programs and hear the beats so you can match them by ear WITHOUT crossfading it into the live mix????)

thanks!

AtomixMP3

maybe this is already in the thread, but i didn't read all post

anyway: if you have a sorroundsound soundcard, such as the Soundblaster Live!, you can connect your headphones into one of the outputs (on the back of the soundcard) and and your speakers to the other, then you will be able to listen to the track your'e about to bring in, without the sound going to the speakers

just select 3d-card, and speakers + headphones in the sound config

the track marked with green colour will go to the headphones, and everything will go to the speakers, so be sure to have the crossfader pointed at the right track before you start the next track

I tried that, It doesnt work, However, I dont need headphones to hear the other source knowing when the beatmixing is going well, Anyways, I found out in the sound config, If you disable the Master Tempo, It will fix the pitching issue with the tracks, When it was enabled, The beat of the track would go faster but tune wouldnt change, So disabling Master Temp will alow the tune to change as you change the pitch, Much like you do with vinyl when the pitch goes higher, Oh and btw, I did a live set of my own live on the net last night on the TranceAddict Chatroom using the AtomMix, Purhaps I'll do another one and post the link to the live stream tonight.

Posted by reveal on Aug-17-2001 09:53:

it works
just be sure to select "4 speakers" in your soundblaster mixer
also try to switch places of your headphones and speakers on the back of your soundcard

I find that to be a hassle, I rather do it by looking at the bar graphs, Its easy to tell which bars are the bassdrums anyways, I was mixing live last night using AtomMixMP3 on my shoutcast stream.

One thing, I hate these programs, all of them, they all suck equally, they each have some fault. Also, none of them compare to real DJing, especially what tiger stated above. Rather lookin at the bars, that will get you no where, and that's not mixing. That's just computer aided mixing, where your part is too click a button and there, it's mixed. If your really interested in makin mixes etc, invest some money in turntable's, it's about 1000000x more fun, and rewarding. YOu actually learn some real skills. And using a mixer is totally different then those programs. I myself tried to set up a shoutcast with atomixmp3, it didn't work, it took forever to figure out what i needed. Fuck this...

(tsi goes and grabs some vinyl, puts it on a deck, and plays on)

I totally agree with you mate, but many people (including me)just can't afford a decent turntable(2x) and a good mixer.. ever look what a turntable cost these days.. It's a price i would not be able to afford even if i had 3 jobs!

Posted by TigerClaw on Aug-21-2001 12:47:

I was able to shoutcast with AtomixMP3 though, All you need is the line recording plugin for winamp then change the recording volume by puting the check on wave so that the music from AtomixMP3 is outputed thru the line recording plugin then your set, I done it before and it works perfectly, I myself can't aford real TTs since I have a very small bedroom, I have no desire to become a DJ I do this for the fun, I dont know what the problem some of you people have this software, The fact I can mix mp3s and do a live set is the coolest thing I never done cause I always wanted to hear my mp3s in a mix, and this program does the job for me, Only right now, since its a demo, it wont let you record, But, Oh well, At least I can stream with it.

Posted by JAV on Aug-21-2001 13:16:

Talking

I have mixed using two winamps running at the same time and a pitch plugin so I can set the BPM..! Its really hard, but I didnt know of any MP3 mixing programs

Thank you all TA's
