pioneer hdj-1000's....they are the SHIT!!!!!!!!

Posted by MrSquirrel on Mar-22-2004 02:22:

Well I bought everything I have within the last month....but what I got most recently were my monitors.

Here is the total list:

2 Technics Sl1200mkII (pawn shop $500...had to replace the RCAs though)
American Audio QD-5 mixer (new through work at cost)
2 Shure SS35C stylii for the SC35C carts that were on the techs....am gonna buy M-44G's when I get around to it.
Sony MDRV-7506 phones
M-Audio BX-5 powered monitors

Built a little plywood crate for my vinyl at work.

I spent quite the chunk of change on the whole setup...but if I decide I don't want to do the "bedroom dj" stuff anymore I can sell everything for pretty mch what I paid for it since I got good deals on everything and have done some repairs to the decks.

Very good piece of equipment. I have a post about my opinion on how this makes my mixes sound better in a different thread.

BBE Sonic maximizer is an amazing piece of kit! I whole heartedly agree. changes the sound sooooo much.

Cheers

BE VERY VERY VERY CAREFUL WITH THE HDJ 1000s!!! I can't tell you how many people have gone through these freaking headphones already. I went through a pair of those already. The sound quality is amazing but the craftsmanship SUCKS!! It seems the more you spend on headphones the worst quality they turn out to be. i.e. - HDJ1000, Sony MDR-V700

Just giving you a heads up warning take very good care of them and zip tie the hinges just as a fail safe option .

I pampered the shit out of my headphones, it always seems that once they fall out of warranty they start to fall apart .

Final Scratch.

it's been nothing but one huge headache so far.

i've went thru 3 pairs already..

1st ones the leather all began to crack within a week, 2nd pair the headband started to fall apart and on my third set the right ear cup failed when i was making a cd. just stopped working altogether. I am currently waiting on my 4th pair coming back from the manufacturers.

They are undeniably great headphones but as you say not very well put together..

I am currently using technics 1210's. They have the best build quality i have ever seen in a headphone altho my brother has said that in a club enviroment they aren't loud enough. And the fact the earcups don't swivel makes them slightly harder to use.. (well worth the money tho')..

Probably a different thread but I swear by the Sennheisser HD25's. Never used a better headphone (and I have used a lot).

Hey Dallas,

What the BBE Sonic Maximizer does in effect is recover frequencies that are lost during the recording process.

When you hear music straight from the speaker the high and low stuff will hit you at the same time this giving a more powerful effect. When you listen to the recording it wont be quite the same as when you where performing for your friends or the dancefloor.
The process that happens there is called frequency dependant phase shifting. That real punch/vibe is lost.

The BBE compensates for the shifts between high and low (not forgetting medium) and what you actually do is bring back that energy and make music sound less muddy.

There is a hardware version and a VST. I have the VST and use it with Fruity Loops although I use mine mainly for my productions.

I would say however that your money would be better spent on more records in the early part of your DJ life as this type of gadjet will not be needed not even when you are making demos.

All the best
Nem

Look forward to it. Send me what you got... You would be surprised what a mix reveals. Beat matching is a small part of it. There are so many other factors in there too.

Cheers
