that's what can create the problem: cheating!

It's only a theory, but I believe most people who have had several distance-relationships have cheated before. It just seems natrual, and for that reason I could never trust someone far away, just like that.

Right well i don't know where everyone came up with the fact that they don't work long term but i must be a living contradiction to that statement then since i've been in a long distance relationship for over a year now. My boyfriend lives in Canada and i live in Ireland.
I don't see how or why it wouldnt work unless you weren't willing to work on it yourself.
Both my boyfriend and I work on our relationship and it works quite well. Obviously it's not the same as being in the same country but we both make an effort to see each other as often as possible.
All it takes is a little dedication ffs

Some of us said it could work and others said it couldn't

I personaly had a relationship online with this chica from china for 3 years but after spending 6 months discussing politics and stuff and always argueing ( like the fact that Taiwan is it's own country and does NOT belong to Mainland China and she's get so pissed off ) ..... She actually ended up cheating on me even sending me pics of her with the bastard when she announced it to me But I honestly never believed in the relationship one bit ( that was for various personal reasons tough ).

well its a bit of a long story... we were in HS together in gr 10 cuz i lived in canada for 2 yrs... then i left, we lost contact, and eventually in nov 2002 he found me again.
So i went back to see him and the rest is history

been in long distance relationship due to college (girlfriend is in college and im not) for the past nearly 3 years. Its a bit tough at times but next year we are buying a house and settling down so it can work.

LOT of dedication and there were some tough times, mostly because she got emotional not knowing when we were going to be together and all that good stuff.

Now that we know pretty much when we will be together it makes it easier on us both.

Yeah I met her on the net ... She found me on ICQ and we jus started talking; I think she really just was out to get a westerner boy.
What's IRL ?

TBH the girl was flipping out on me and I think I pulled the worst shit I ever could have. The day after 9/11 she sends me this email saying that america got what they deserve and that she was happy that all these people had to burn alive ( ok I'll stop the grusome details now ) etc etc .... My sister was supposed to be in one of the towers right then; and 5 people I knew died because of the event so hearing some stupid bitch ( pardon my lack for a more insulting words ) tell me things of that nature only made me wish never to speak to her ever again.

long distance can work. if you REALLY want it to...
i'm now in a long distance relationship and I know I fully trust my sweetie and he trusts me too. I guess it helps that we talk to each other constantly and that we've been such good friends for a while that we really know each other...

The biggest challenge is trust and dedication... if you have 100% of both, it WILL work

Posted by whiskers on Mar-17-2004 21:07:

john, IRL = in real life

how can you have an internet girlfriend and not know that???

Long distance can work if eventually you're planning on getting closer.
