SO leave it alone stop to think what you are doing its not cool or a good idea to do this you are dumb and wasting your time and not thinking clearly. IF you dont like it dont go! you all know full well its gonna be rammed and its been rammed since the begining of its existence, so stop complaining. There is no substitute for guv so when its gone, its gone and theres no need to have it gone just cause someone was crying one day saying "boo hoo its so packed in here i cant dance " everyone who has ever been to guv has said those exact words and you dont see people being running to the fire marshall. P.S Go dance in the lake if you want room! |

so true
i remember back in 2002, I injured my arch in my left foot so badly that I could not lift my fucking foot without immense pain. The bouncer says lift your foot, I said I can't, the arch is slightly torn and he got mad at me, he goes you trying to hide drugs, I said no...so i ended up taking my shoe off in. Some people these days.
wierd...what's this about boa's searches? i've never felt violated there, whereas at guv i have been molested on numerous occasions. *shudder*
it would be great if things changed there, but i doubt they ever will. which is why i don't go anymore unless its a special event.
I think what a lot of you are foregetting is how it USED to be in Guv!
Many TAs most likely rememeber the days of the braveheart track and the EXTENSIVE pyro that would go off in the main room in time with it.
Could you imagine what would happen if the sparks from that caught on fire these days??? Not to mention the naked firebreathing buskers they had strolling through Guv during all the Milleniuem festivities...
Bottom line is the club has a lot of space that goes unused for various reasons, like the upper lvls which are sparsely populated compared with the main, so if us poor folk were to be allowed access up there, I'm sure it would ease the crush in the other areas.
I agree with you here
Alot of you say, "if you don't like it, don't go."
I've only been to guvernment twice and i will never go again until they get their shit together
if you need me to do anything room2dance feel free to ask
^^^ i've heard of this pyro shit.....too bad i was too young
some of you younger peeps (lol @ me saying that hehe) might find this hard to believe but GUV circa 99/00 was a ROCKIN party. And im not talking about for special events or whatever, im talking about Saturday nights with Mark Oliver. That room had a great party vibe, people would actually going off to Marks music, not like what it seems like today. Girls used to go there and the crowd wasnt as sketchy either. NOW? ugggggh I dont even wanna talk about that place...the place is a total writeoff...
IMO

I have a cousin who used to work at the Guv... and he would always complain about how terrible the overcrowding and everything was... it gets so gross in there that sweat drips from the ceiling. You can't move or dance... the only thing you can really do is jump up and down... and this was like... last year. If it's even worse now... that really sucks.
And those searches... from the way you describe them, I think they'd be considered illegal. It would be very easy to go up against the guv and/or security company on violations of security of person, unlawful search/seizure, or something like that... if no law exists.
But like many others have pointed out... we don't want the Guv shut down, and we don't want to send them bankrupt with lawsuits. Does the Guv really require the extra 300-500 people in there in order to break even? If it's a money issue, then prices could be raised by a small amount... I'm sure they'd still get enough business.
best of luck room2dance
you have my full support. if you need any help PM me.
I'd like to attend decadence, but if Ferry is any indication of what April 8th will be like, i'll just stay home and watch the lord of the rings trilogy.
i think it's all the fault of Z103.5
they started playing Rocky Your Body Rocky and look what happens! Ginomania @ Guv!
Well so far the response here has been what I expected. Most in favour, a few afraid I'm rocking the boat.
Again, it is not my intention to shut down the Guv. I like the Guv and plan on attending the April 8th party. In fact the reason I'm doing this is because I DO enjoy the Guv, I just want to make sure the next time I go back isn't like the last. This is by no means a radical move. Clubs are warned about overcrowding all the time before any action takes place and hopefully a warning here will sink in to the Guv mamagement and make them think twice about how many people the let in the next time.
For the people who think I should leave this alone and put a night of dancing in front of the safey of other people I'm not even going to dignify that position with a response. It doesn't deserve one.
Hence why the tta tends to avoid these ultra spin events...too rammed. I value my safety....
I think the guv needs to stop letting in assclowns at 2-3am....that's why it gets too full and if you don't get there early enough, it's your fucking problem. I'm a firm believer in snooze you lose....clubs should take that approach.
I've noticed that people who purchase tickets for these big events in advance are really there for the music and the atmosphere not just to get high and stand near the big speakers like zombies. Now I'm not sure if this is being done already or not but they should only let in people with tickets until 2 or 3 and then if the capacity hasn't been reached they start letting in the non-ticket holders as well. I've noticed that the drunken ginos leave around 2-4 so this would kind of balance things out.
Whoever said the security checks at Boa are worse than at guv, you're full of shit!! Firstly, the security staff at Boa are a lot more friendlier so you don't mind being searched even though you may find it unpleasant and they definitely don't grab you as hard or stick their hands down your pants unlike at guv.
btw, room2dance... good luck with everything. I love the guv and it's still my favorite club in TO but they've gotta change before someone gets killed. Remember the drugged out dood walking the rafters in KH? Now that incident could have been a LOT worse.
On a side note, the thing that bothers me the most about the whole over-crowding thing is the sweat-rain... yyyyyyyyyyuuuuuuuuuccccccckkkkkkk!!!!!!! ![]()

does the shit have to hit the fan first before something is done?!?
sadly yes, and it could be me or you or our best friends and I've been leading the charge against overcrowding in clubs for a while now. I spoke to some city councellors...idiots..i figure. If it does happen, watch the regulations tighten so severly. Usually no one does anything till tragedy happens, i mean 2500 in a room where 2200 is the limit and say someone causes panic and ppl run and someone falls and gets trampled to death. People can dismiss this as idiocy but it's bound to happen, don't we want to make clubbing for everyone safer and more enjoyable?. I mean I don't know how I would cope if something happened and I knew I could do something for it. Charles K says he always follows guidelines (quote from an interview he did for the national post) and we know that's wrong. We don't want the guv to close, we just want it safer.
when the clubs stop bringin in the big names because of this or worse yet get shut down, we know whose fault it is
I for one, love the Guv because it attracts the best dj's in the world month after month. I hope if something is done with this overcrowdedness issue, that the Guv starts selling a set amount of tickets to events at various locations in the city. That way, the die hards and dj lovers can buy tickets early and enjoy seeing their favorite djs and have room to dance. Nothings worse than going to see a dj who comes here once a year and not being able to dance or have a good time because the Guv has let in over 1000 idiots into the club who have no idea who's dj'ing and are there only because it's an after hours club.
As far as the security at the door. I don't care to be felt up and touched all over by these macho bouncers and bouncettes like I have been in the past but I do feel ALOT safer at the Guv now than a few years ago when they didn't touch you all over and anyone could walk in with a weapon if they felt like it. I guess the Guv feel's weapons can kill people, but fire and 1000's rushing for exit's can't.

Seems we're perpetually faced with those driven by the overwhelming desire to maintain the status quo... I just hope that doesn't deter the ones who push for changes. It's the latter group, not the former, that have made the scene as good as it is.
I'm usually one to say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", but you'd have a hard time convincing me that the Guv ain't broke. Practically, I think there are probably strong forces at work keeping things the way they are, but it never hurts to try to break through. If the Guv got shut down, Charles would just start a new business anyway, I'm not too worried about losing our wonderful world-class DJs.
for the time being, i'll just stay out of the guv... keep up the good works. i really wish all sides reach a compromisable position.a win-win situation is not very common to achieve but if the powers to be became understanding, this issue will be resolved.
Some of you people just don't get it.
1. I do not want to shut down ANY club.
2. A simple warning from the Fire Marshall will not deter big name DJ's from returning to Toronto.
3. Making a club conform to search and capacity regulations will not close it down or change who it books.
The fact that people are even posting in here saying that their own personal good time is more important than the safety of other people is perhaps the most selfish thing I've ever seen.
I want a girl to empty her waterbra, then fill it up with gasoline
wear that into the guv, take the gasoline, pour it on the cement along a back wall with no flamable materials (so that when the gas is gone, the fire is gone) then light it.
see the panic that ensues and how many people are seriously hurt, if not killed. Ive thought of doing what room2dance is doing myself, but know that Im not going to be in TO long enuf to follow thru on it.
If they have to get shut down because they endanger people, then so be it. I could really care less. I dont support guv unless Im really dying to see somebody, and then I raelise that I really might die. Its not hard to get trampled to death in a crowd that size.
hmmm they should do something about the place being over packed, other than that leave it the way it is, just let less people in, let the ones in first with the tickets (for special events).
One good thing they do is have cops outside, also I think they should have paid medics just waiting on the spot...(just in case some one really od's)
other than that PARTY ON!!!
