I checked out the headphones....those Sony's seem to be the sweetest, everybody that has gotten them is satisfied, and they are not much more expensive than the others....so look like the ones i would get...


I had another question, every site I went to had DJ packages, are those any good? I dont know much about other mixers and tt's but obviously the technics 1200's are the best (maybe look for a used pair sometime), but just wondering what those packages are like

Some of those dj packages are nice... but most of them are crap.

For a cheap decent mixer check out the Numark DM-1001x... it's a very basic mixer, but it does the job. here's a link: http://www.123dj.com/mixers/numark/dm1001x.html

Check out the Technics RP-DJ1200 headphones, they are better than those Sony's and are a bit cheaper.

The Numark DM-1001x is a 2 channel mixer, Hypersonic pointed out to me that a 4 channel mixer would make my life alot easier to start with....

and the Technics headphones are nice as well, so you say they beat out the Sony's!!? why is everybody going nuts over the Sony's then?

I don't like the sound and believe everybody buys them for the looks or because the pros get them for free from Sony.

I would not recommend a 4 channel mixer to begin with. There is no need. All new mixers I know have Phone/Line switches so you can hook up 2 TTs and 2 CD/MD players to a 2 channel mixer. Why would you want more? As a beginner, you are not going to mix with 3 sources at the same time.

I know I don't need much as a beginner....but now im getting conflicting info regarding mixers....someone recommended 4 channel mixer to begin with......

so i guess a 2 channel mixer would be better? any that you would recommend? (not too expensive!)

and about the headphones....the Technics RP-DJ1200 seem like a decent pair?

The Technics headphones are awesome.. not decent!

If you're a begginer you won't need more than 2 channels.. you can hook to the Numark 2 cd's and two turntables, you won'y need more than that.

What's your budget?

This mixer is very basic.. if you have some cash you can go much better...

I saw that one for about $100 or something like that....

I can probably fork out more cash than that for a good mixer.....i'd say maybe 200-250 i guess

hey, stop! just cause I wasn't here for 2 days deosn't mean a 2 channel mixer is better !!! beleive me. my 4 channel mixer has a phono/line switch on each channel too. it's bullshit! I never intend to use those switches, cause it'll just be confusing...... I think that even if there are switches, still, a 4 channel mixer will make your life alot easier, but not just for starting.... an EQ on each channel is not that important. the mixer I have (Phonic DM-3030) has great quality and a 7 band EQ for each side. one for the left and one for the right.... I, personally, think it's enough..... I think the switches are just confusing......... but hey, man. it's your decision.
and about the sony headphones, I checked them out a few days ago, and they ROCK (and NOT just cause of their look)!!!! I didn't see any technics headphones where I checked....
but still.... like the mixer, it's your call.

Actualy no, they weren't from israel, they are all from USA.. and they didn't get shit and were still charged for it!

And an EQ on each channel is a very big deal!! it's one of the most important things in a mixer.. if you want to make looooong smooooooth mixes you'll need an EQ on each channel... ask every proffesional and he will tell you that it's a very very important thing!!!

Now abbas.. if you have 250$ check out the Stanton RM-100/RM-80, the Vestax PMC-170a, the Behringer DX-500 and the Gemini UMX9/UMX-7...

okay..... so about hollywooddj.com, I have no idea why this happens.... I get all my stuff from there....... oh well....

and I make loooooooong smooooooth mixes without an EQ on each channel....... sometimes my mixes last over a minute..... and I never touch the EQ....
oh well........ maybe it's worth trying....... I was planning on replacing my mixer anyway.... I've got it for over 2 years and I think it's time to try something new.....
can you recommend me a good mixer with an EQ on each channel? it's important that it will have at least 4 channels and be 19" wide and rackable....... so it can fit my DJ case...... can you help me?

from what I see, the Vestax PMC-170a seems quite good and seems like its a popular choice by many (not necessarily meaning its good i know)....

HyPeRSoNiC: Check out the Stanton RM-100... it's a very good mixer with good EQ on each channel, it has 4 channels and it's 19".. looks like the perfect thing for you...

Abbas: The best out of those are the Stanton RM-100 and the Gemini UMX-9.. after that comes the Behringer DX-500 and the last out of those is the Vestax PMC-170... but all of those mixers are about the same level.. check them all out and see what you like the best.

Yeah, the RM-100 is a great mixer for the price.. you can't get better than that for that price.

The Gemini BPM series is good, the PS isn't.. if you're gonna buy a 19" gemini then the BPM 500 is the best 19" that gemini ever made.. but the stanton rm-100 is still better.

i reckon using the mixers on PC will just frustrate you, nothing like the experience of physical or hardware mixing, such as turntables. But the easiest way to learn would have to be watch others, so talk with your dj mates, or just ask around,

and about the pc mixing, I use a pc and it's not frustrating, as long as you put it in a position that won't get in your way of reach to your other equipment..... but mixing with a computer is great. you can stuff about 378926363283623293683262839623 albums in there.... as long as you have a big enough hard drive.

I've been mixing MP3s on a computer for a while now, and I can say the results are pretty amateurish and average -- maybe cause my sound card is cheap sh*t. I've been using a program that gives me precise control where and how I want to start mixing, on which beat, etc. I've developed pretty good beatmatching skills even without that, however, because I have a mixer at home (Gemini BPM-150) and I use 2 portable CD players Forget pitch-control, it takes like 30 sec. to read the CD fully lame, I know, but what can I do? Even with a setup as pathetic as this, I've been able to mix all right.

I'm annoyed by the fact that MP3's aren't that great in quality. You can hear the defects, the slight noise, the range imperfections. I prefer sound that is crisp and magnificent. And because most of what I want to mix doesn't come on CDs, but only on vinyl, I've decided to buy 2 TT's.

My parents are absolutely puzzled by this, my dad went so far as to say "I thought turntables were a thing of the past." When I told him about pitch control and stuff he had no idea what I was talking about, and no matter how hard I tried to convince him I couldn't So I don't want to spend lots of $$$, I just want to see if this is what I'd like to do, especially cause I have some mixing skills already.

Yeah, I can see how just observing a DJ would be so good, but year I dont have any DJ mates, or else I think I would've even gotten into this so much sooner....

I just wanna use a PC cause I can't handle spending that much money on TT's and vinyl, so this is just a way to start out, get my basics of mixing down.....

If I had the cash, I would just went with TT's which would be amazing, but with school starting out now, I definitely can't afford it, so i'll have to deal with what i've got!
