Well hey, if you define a pussy as someone who apparently opposes the killing of tens of thousands of people, then sure, I agree.

I'm not really a big fan of Kerry (mostly because of some of his recent Senate votes), but the main reason I'm supporting Kerry is because Bush has appointed so many religious extremists to high-level cabinet positions in his Administration. From all that Ive read, his Administration is a SEVERE threat to many of the very freedoms upon which the US was founded.

These articles should give a bit of insight into what Im talking about, and they are well worth reading:

The Texas GOP Platform:

Flash moive:

(No I dont condone the comparison to Hitler, but damn some of those quotes are scary)

Excerpts from the platform:

http://www.4religious-right.info/texas_gop.htm

quote:

"The Republican Party of Texas reaffirms
the United States of America is a Christian Nation ..."

State of Texas GOP Platform, 2002

Introduction
When the Texas Republican Party Platform was released, an article in the Houston Chronicle characterized the document as something written by religious zealots who did not represent the true Texas Republican Party. The article pointed out how Republican candidates were distancing themselves from the Party Platform, especially its call to abolish bilingual education in a state with a large Hispanic population. It's a mistake to take the document lightly, or dismiss its authors as marginal. Other state GOP Platforms reflect the same values, and whether or not the writers of the document are marginal or a minority, the fact that they've moved into positions where they can actually write a party platform for the second most populous state in the country is very significant.

Ralph Nader points out that the platform

"says crisply that each 'Republican candidate for a public or Party office shall be provided a current copy of the Party platform at the time of filing. The candidate shall be asked to read and initial each page of the platform and sign a statement affirming he/she has read the entire platform.' Signing on the dotted line is connected with the Party giving the candidate financial and other support." (CommonDreams.org, Oct. 5, 2003)

Pat Robertson pointed out in his book The Millennium, 1990,

"With the apathy that exists today a well organized minority can influence the selection of candidates to an astonishing degree."

Since George Bush has become President, the "well organized minority" is no longer merely selecting candidates. They are actually running the federal government. The Texas State GOP Platform gives us a glimpse into the values and ideals of the Religious Right and the kind of government they want. I have found different versions of the Platform, and I'm not sure which one is 'official' although any version gives insight into their thinking. If something on this page is not in the link, it may be in another version. The link to the actual Platform is at the bottom of this page. It's very long, so you may have to scroll down pretty far to find the items highlighted on this page.

"The Christian Taliban"

http://www.alternet.org/story.html?StoryID=18259

quote:

But even as President George W. Bush denounced the brutal Islamic fundamentalist regime in Kabul, he was quietly laying the foundations for his own fundamentalist regime at home. For the first time far right Christian fundamentalists had one of their own in the White House and the opportunity to begin rolling back decades of health and family planning programs they saw as un-Christian, if not downright sinful.
Since 2001 dozens of far-right Christian fundamentalists have been quietly installed in key positions within the Department of Health and Human Services, the Federal Drug Administration and on commissions and advisory committees where they have made serious progress. Three years later this administration has established one of the most rigid sexual health agendas in the Western world.

John Ashcroft's idea of federalism:

http://www.4religious-right.info/states_rights2.htm

US government policy on family planning is to the far right of 40 highly religious, largely Catholic, Latin American nations:

http://www.ppfa.org/global/news/viewer.asp?ID=507

The Bush Administrations official policy (Im not making this up) on birth control is that women should only use natural birth control methods such as checking the consistency or color of their cervical mucous. Any doctor whos not a crazed fanatic will tell you that this method is a complete failure in terms of predicting ovulation, and is unusable.

President Bush in his State of the Union Address said he planned to double funding for "abstinence only" sex ed programs in schools that disseminate false information to students regarding contraception:

http://www.hrw.org/press/2002/09/us0918.htm

A recent NPR/Kennedy School poll found that only about 15% of Americans support this policy.

President Bush's FCC appointee has also recently been stifling political free speech in the name of "indecency." Howard Stern knows a thing or two about that:

http://www.howardstern.com/

Rush Limbaugh, Imus, and other radio hosts have also come to the defense of Stern.

These religious extremists that Bush has appointed to his cabinet positions give us an insight into the kind of people he will appoint to the US Supreme Court if given the chance. I have no doubt, none, that they will overturn the historical separation of church and state, and lay the groundwork for a quasi-theocratic state.

I'm quite upset that the mainstream media, other than some newspapers, is not covering this disturbing trend of the religious extremists having taken over the Republican Party (and now the government). Never before has church/state separation, religious freedom, and many constitutionally protected freedoms been in such jeopardy.

This is all part of the far-right Fundamentalist plan. Believe me, I've read many of Pat Robertson's crazed writings, and though the man should probably be in an insane asylum, he has an incredible influence over the government because of his great wealth.

The funny thing is, if you ask many Christians, they also abhore the man.

The Robertsonites knew how apathetic the public is, so they knew that if they got mobilized it would be relatively easy for them to stage a coup from within to gain control of the government.

It's also important to note that not all Christian Fundamentalists are extremists who believe in imposing their "Christian" views on everyone through the mechanisms of government.

I can name two "Fundies" who have my great respect:

John McCain & Jimmy Carter

Why don't you make a poll?

Bush environmental record is also troubling

One disturbing aspect of the Texas GOP platform has recently come close to being enacted - the gutting of the Endangered Species Act:

http://www.stg.duluthsuperior.com/m...rts/6986942.htm

quote:

Bush proposes hunting of endangered species

By SHANKAR VEDANTAM

The Washington Post

WASHINGTON The Bush administration is proposing far-reaching changes to conservation policies that would allow hunters, circuses and the pet industry to kill, capture and import animals on the brink of extinction in other countries.

Giving Americans access to endangered animals, officials said, would both feed the gigantic U.S. demand for live animals, skins, parts and trophies, and generate profits that would allow poor nations to pay for conservation of the remaining animals and their habitats.

This and other proposals that pursue conservation through trade would, for example:

; Open the door for American trophy hunters to kill the endangered straight-horned markhor in Pakistan

; License the pet industry to import the blue fronted Amazon parrot from Argentina

; Permit the capture of endangered Asian elephants for U.S. circuses and zoos

; Partially resume the international trade in African ivory.

No U.S. endangered species would be affected.

Conservation groups counter that killing or capturing even a few animals is hardly the best way to protect endangered species, and say the policies cater to individuals and businesses that profit from animal exploitation.

Its a very dangerous precedent to decide that wildlife exploitation is in the best interest of wildlife, said Adam Roberts of the Animal Welfare Institute.

The latest proposal involves an interpretation of the Endangered Species Act that deviates radically from the course followed since President Nixon signed the act in 1973. The law established protection for endangered species, most of which are not native to America, and prohibited trade in them.

Bush has in fact gutted most environmental laws on the books, many of which would help protect the air that children breathe.

This is why I can't understand why he considers himself "pro-life."

If you love the fetus, and hate it after it's born, that's not "pro-life."
