ah you bunch of pussies
the only bad thing about it is the soundof the teeth coming out.
I just got a letter from the place today. Im going in on Tuesday, because of a cancellation, at 9:30. Apparently, Im not having a General, but am being sedated. Dear god, Im terrified. ![]()
you will be fine
or were, as it were.....
how did it go?
The start of it was horrifically traumatising. I was in a small waiting room where I had to fill out loads of forms, then they made me stand in this machine which revolved round my head and took an all round x-ray. After that, the anaesthetist came and had a chat with me to explain what was going to happen. Then it was straight into the chamber of torture.
However, as soon as the drugs hit the system, I was away with the fairies. They gave me Fentanyl and Midazolam. Apparetnly Fentanyl has pain killing properties 80 times more powerful than morphine and the effects on the body are biologically indistinguishable from Heroin, except hundreds of time more potent!
I dont remember much of the procedure, except asking if I could laugh at one point (which they let me do) and then saying I think Ive died when the heart monitor stopped bleeping when I was in the recovery room. Pain wise there was absolutely none, except for when they took to tooth out, which wasnt exactly painful, but highly uncomfortable.
Im really gratefull to the Nurses, Anaesthetist and Dentist (who were apparently brothers), as I couldnt fault the way they treated me. Excellent bedside manner.
Anyway, in short I survived. Just dont want to have to go through that again soon no matter how fun the drugs were.
ooh this is like pharmacology revision!
Fentanyl is a drug that is part of the opioid group, and is extremely potent. it is given in doses that are 10-1000 times less volume than of that morphine or other analogues. because of its potency, it can be given subdermally.
Midazolam is part of the benzodiazepines, which are drugs that act to centrally depress the nervous system. This means they act on the brain to have their peripheral effects, as opposed to a local anesthetic which is applied at the desired place. they act on GABA a receotirs in the brain, which enhances the effects of GABA by making the chlorine ion channels open and causeing a depolaristation, allowing GABA to enter the nerve.
Did they give you anything else? Usually with a dose of diazopenes, they give flumazenil to counteract the effects of it and bring you out of anaesthesia. this works with the flumazenil competing with the midazolam for the receptors.
yes i'm boring

They might have, but I dont think they did! They gave me the names and doses of the drugs I had on a piece of paper, so if anything went wrong emergency peeps would know what Id already taken. I had 50mg of Fentanyl and 7mg of Midazolam. Pretty much everything from that morning is a blur, apart from random snippets of memory.
Ach! The Gummy Gap where my wisdom tooth was is starting to ache!
I still get terrifying flashbacks of the sound of my teeth coming out. Ulghhhhhh. Its a horrible horrible sound.
i got all four wisdom teeth taken out at the same time. had to go to the hospital to get it done.
whatever they knocked me out with was fucking amazing
highly recommened
my mate had 2 wisdom teeth out the other week.
they gave him a 'sedative'
he said he was toally fukked, but was still awake. He knew what they were doing, but couldnt feel a thing, and didnt care....
i dont think i would every have general anesthetic at the dentists, not after all the horror stories ive heard in the news and stuff.
